I remember one of peter earlier lines in the comics was about how he was going to make the kids in his school all pay one day after they picked on him. Course he eventually got passed it. I really like some of the points he makes here like how Peter doesn't get the lesson right away. He actually goes through an arc and has to learn it through experience. To this day, the bridge scene where he gives that kid his mask and he realizes what he could be (more than a vigilante and more of a hero) is one of the best scenes in any Spider-Man movie and solidifies this as a great Spider-Man film for me.

Such a truthful review. I loved this film, definitely my favourite Spider-Man movie. Sam Raimi's films were good but it was too cheesy, Toby Mcguire wasn't really a great peter parker, he was too emotional and I could never take his face seriously. Mary Jane was just irritating through out, getting captured in all three films and acting like a b1tch on more than one occasion. She wasnt lovable like Gwen Stacy was, this film was more realistic, Andrew Garfield was perfect as Peter Parker and more relatable and I liked the slightly dark tone. Only negative is the Lizard wasnt that good of a villain.

@@al112v4 the raimi films have a more iconic classic comic feel and revolutionized how superhero movies should be. Amazing Spider-Man dose follow some comic aspects but tries to keep it grounded. It was literally painful for me to watch this movie. I get the whole "going for a different type of nerd" thing, but I have never met anyone without a severe mental disability that acts like Peter does in this film. The stuttering was one thing, and if they left it at that I'd probably think this a was a decent movie, maybe even a really good one, but when the movie wastes MINUTES on Peter shaking his head around making awkward moaning noises and trying to say something before giving up it becomes painful and something I had to force myself to watch. I really want to see a supercut of all those times Peter did that. I'm willing to bet it's over 10 minutes long. It's unfortunate that this is literally my only complaint (although I'd still like like spiderman 1 and 2 better anyway) and it ruined the entire movie for me.

My list goes: The Amazing Spiderman Spiderman 2 Spiderman Spiderman 3 The original trilogy was honestly way too corny for me. The romance felt awkward and made me cringe. Tobey wasn't slender enough for me. The only reason spiderman 2 is so close to The amazing is because of the phenomenal portrayal of Doc Oc I never liked Doc Oc ( accent stupid haircut, stupid costume silly looking metal arms. ) In the movie they had a real grit to them and he was shown as such a badass. Peter felt empty, Mary Jane was annoying, loved Harry by James Franco. I much prefer the layered characters, darker less cheesy tone, believable interactions between characters and I actually felt for the death of uncle Ben this time. If the Lizard was a less one dimensional villain and the suit was how it'll look in the sequel, then the amazing spiderman would be my definite favourite. It seems like it is inspired a lot by the Ultimate Comics and that is just a great thing in my eyes.

TASM 1 was the first movie I have seen in theaters. I have a soft spot for it. I was 8 when it released. It was my childhood. I am glad Jeremy Jahns gave it a positive review. Here is my take. The good: - Andrew Garfield - Chemistry with Peter and Gwen - Lizard - Cinematography - Visuals - Fight scenes - Score - Direction - Plot (despite revisiting same plot points from Spider-Man (2002). The Bad: - some elements what made Lizard an important character to Spider Man history like his family was missing. He could have used more depth - it's a rehash from the 2002 Spider Man and it's too soon to reboot it. (8/10) its so underrated My favorite Spider Man villain is Electro

This movie was terrible. Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker is much truer to the comic books than Andrew Garfield. I'm sorry, but Peter Park is not an emmo skateboarder kid. The reason people hated this movie is because it was made only so sony could keep the rights from falling back to marvel's hands, basically preventing him from being in Avengers 2. Also it was kinda Generic. if you go back and watch all the late 90s early 00s superhero movies they are all black centric when they really could use color, eg X men, then you see this Rami's Spiderman and its full of vibrant color, and also GGoblin was a man in a suit, which is kinda original and cool if you ask me.

morning morality I prefer Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. In the Raimi trilogy you could actually *believe* that only superhuman powers could make the dorky Peter Parker somewhat cool. In the Amazing version (which isn't that amazing, really) Garfield plays a broody, cool-looking Peter Parker who doesn't need to be Spider-Man to be cool. That might work for Iron Man (Downey Jr. is an awesome Tony Stark who becomes even more awesome when he puts on the Iron Man suit), but Spider-Man is supposed to a *different* type of superhero. He's supposed to have *constant bad luck* and I can never believe someone like Garfield having bad luck.
@paradoxacres106310 жыл бұрын
morning morality Which version of Spider-Man did you read? Was it the Ultimates or the older comcs? I honestly don't know much about the comics (only read a few Ultimates volumes, and loved them) but that whole "handsome but lacking confidence" thing you mentioned just doesn't seem too interesting in *movie* form. It's good to be "faithful" to the source material, but movies have to be their own thing. (Look at Lord of The Rings) Sure, I guess I understand what you're saying. It's possible for it to be good, but it didn't seem to work well in the Amazing movies (both of them). Here, Peter Parker seems like the lovable protagonist in a *romantic comedy* type of movie, instead of a superhero film.
@paradoxacres106310 жыл бұрын
morning morality Yeah, maybe if the MCU got back the rights to Spider-Man, then they'd probably be able to do a perfect Spider-Man film. But as of this moment in time, I'd say the Raimi films were *perfect*. Even now, Spider-Man 2 is highly rated and is probably the "quintessential" Spider-Man movie. Sure, the Spider-Man 3 wasn't so good, but 2 out of 3 movies is a good track record from Raimi. The Amazing movies? They seem to get worse. Even Jeremy, who seems to *love* the new Spider-Man, feels the 2nd movie dropped in quality. I have a friend who *hates* the Raimi version (he prefers Andrew Garfield), but he was extremely disappointed by the 2nd Amazing movie.
@paradoxacres106310 жыл бұрын
***** Realistic doesn't mean "better". Peter Parker is nerdy and nowhere near as cool as Andrew Garfield, the One Direction lookalike. He basically doesn't need to be Spiderman.

morning morality The comics I've read don't portray Peter Parker as good looking. Also, being "cool" has nothing to do with good looks either, but that's just how he's portrayed in this movie. He's not really a loner; he looks more like a member of One Direction. At least that's how it looked like to me.

Carl John What does it matter if there was an audio log? It was pretty absent in the movie and barely affects Peter. Sure, you don't wanna hear it over and over (like in the Raimi trilogy) but as a "philosophy" or code of honour that Spidey's supposed to adhere to, it is *absent in both films*.

Amazing Spider Man the best out of all of them. because I actually went to a Spiderman movie saw Spider Man. He made jokes he reacted & fought like a spider. The only time Sam Raimi's one actually made a joke was in the third movie when he has a black suit. Amazing Spider Man was closer to the comic and it was what it was supposed to be better. There's a lot more issues with the Raimi's ones. Funny thing is and this is my personal opinion out of the three I actually enjoyed the second one the least Doctor Octopus is supposed to have a lackey it threw it all off for me

Jeremy, good review even though I personally didn't find this movie that good. Although I feel compelled to address something you mentioned. You made it sound like SM1 and 2 were nothing but complete cheese ball fests like "Batman & Robin", but they really weren't. There were some moments that did get annoyingly cheesy, but that's not a bad thing. For me, they took themselves seriously but at the same time didn't forget to have fun. The reboot I felt took itself way too seriously.
@AeroHybrid9 жыл бұрын
Joe Tufano even though I enjoyed the reboot a lot more than the Raimi films, it's a shame they've been known as the ''cool to hate'' films nowadays. I mean they had their cheesy and campy moments but there's always a certain charm to them and they provided perfect, inspiring and detailed stories (with the exception of 3) with a lot of heart and effort. I mean without the Raimi Spider-Man, we wouldn't have got all the other MCU or superhero films

Jeremy, it's refreshing to find a good and respected critic like you who like the Amazing Spiderman movies as much as I do. I was beginning to think I was crazy or dumb. When so much people just throw crap at these movies as if they were worse than the average superhero movie. Specially respected critics like Chris Stuckmann or John from the FlickPick, both of them I respect a lot but they get all asshol-y with these movies for no good reason. On the other hand, you and the Nostalgia Critic share my opinion. Sure, the second movie has problems, but as you say and I agree, it still have some excellent and kind of epic scenes. I think within time the Amazing Spiderman movies will get more respect in general as have happened with other good movies that were underrated at first.

Couldn't agree with you more. Jeremy calls it "cheesy", I call it charm. Charm that only the legendary Raimi can pull off. While a bit more "realistic", these new Spider-Man movies feel almost pointless. Sure, Jeremy is right when he says that "life can get dark", but that's not the point. Why is Amazing Spider-Man less fun than Thor? Or Iron Man? I feel bad for people who didn't like Raimi's Spider-Man cos the new version ain't that good.
@Goblin_Hands11 жыл бұрын
Venom is probably the REASON Spiderman was rebooted. They really treated him poorly and added him last minute, and unfortunately, the only villain that I really enjoyed from any of the movies to date was the Green Goblin. I agree that the lizard seemed shallow, but he also looked awful(like a Hunter from RE with too much muscle and a face similar to the Toxic Avenger), but I enjoyed the fights in the library, etc, and I liked the idea to make others exposed to become lizards. Doc Oc and the Sandman were cool, but their characters were too "nice." I couldn't help but feel like Sandman was a boy scout and Octavious was a sad old man. They never seemed to have any real reasons to hate/fight Parker/Spiderman. Venom did, but only had 1 short fight before he died, permanently, not to mention the Eric from That 70's Show made him look extra puny. Yes, I think that Venom/Carnage must show up soon, but Electro and Rhino will hopefully be nice. I was hoping to see Mysterio sometime too, to a lesser extent.
@MachineFuckingHate5 жыл бұрын
"Venom is probably the REASON Spiderman was rebooted." No. The reason why Spider-Man trilogy was rebooted is because Sam Raimi refused to make the fourth movie, and with his decline, the entire cast left the project as well. So the studio had no other choice than to reboot this franchise. Spider-Man 3 was the highest-grossing superhero movie at that time. No one was going to reboot it simply because it got poorly received. If it makes money, nothing else matters. "I couldn't help but feel like Sandman was a boy scout and Octavious was a sad old man." Pretty accurate descriptions of them, considering that Sandman once even joined the Avengers and Dock Ock was a sad old man with a broken heart in the comics.

Another amazing review by my favorite reviewer. I always find myself agreeing with what you say, Jeremy. I, myself, enjoyed The Amazing Spider Man better than Spider Man. A lot of people will disagree and a lot will agree. But no matter what anyone says, it wont change how much I enjoyed this film. And I'm going to be honest with you, I am just entering the superhero universe. I don't know much and I have only heard a few of the stories. What can I say, I didn't grow up with it and there is no way I can change that no matter how much I wish I could. But, as I learn all the stories of the different superheroes, so far, I have to say that this film made Spider-Man my favorite superhero. And before you say how I should watch this or that film or read this or that comic or even say that I can't be a real fan of Spider-Man if this film is what made him my favorite, let me just say, at least I have entered the superhero universe and at least I have enjoyed what I came across so far. In my opinion, saying someone isn't a real fan because they didn't read or watch certain things yet is ridiculous. You are a fan of something if you find yourself really enjoying what you have found of it. I, for one, wouldn't say you are not a real fan of, per say, Harry Potter, if you have only seen the movies. I would strongly recommend that you read them but if you consider yourself a fan and you have only seen the films that great for you. Welcome to the fandom. And I know this comment has gone off into different topics but thank you to those who sat through and read what I had to say. And my last thought: I can't wait for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 :)

The Amazing Spiderman has a much more detailed,emotional,story telling, and clear plot to why everything in the movie happened which helps the audience watching build a feeling, and compassion to understand Peter Parker's consequences in the movie which make's it better than the other 3 directed before it, because it's well directed and carefully written. It would take alot of time and for all you haters to write a well scripted movie like this.

Clear plot? Explain to me, please, what was the plot of Peter Parker's parents and and Uncle Ben's murderer? i just thought it was sorta half arsed, it was darker for no real reason (as in the plot wasnt THAT dark), i felt sadder when UB died in the original movie (not really a bad thing, the ASM didnt make it bad), he didnt exactly become spider-man out of guilt, it was revenge. the lizard had no development and was a copy of the green goblin, this movie only accomplished what sam raimi did in half an hour. i thought peter parker was a dick, so i ended up hating him buy the end of the movie. Please do not dark knight any other movie for no reason, it doesnt need to be. he still needed glasses after getting his powers? there were so many things they sort of teased in this movie, but they pretty much showed it all in the trailer. not much exploration of Peter's parents and stuff. i just hav those complaints with the ASM 1 i really hop ASM 2 isnt clustered like Spider-man 3, or half arsed like ASM 1
@weaponx05264 жыл бұрын
Omg I am gonna put some dirt in your eye...just kidding but hey atleast I can tell you my opinion.... So first of all yeah he did become spiderman just to take revenge but then in the bridge scene when he saved the kid he realised how much of a responsibility is to be spiderman and later on in the movie he keeps that thing in his mind and then there is the portrayal of Peter paker which yeah I kind of agree with you like he has to be nerdy and this guy is some kind of an asshole but only in the beginning and by the end I mean come on he isn't that bad he realises his mistake and that my friend is some character development plus now to the lizard he also did have some character development at the end when he saved Peter he realised how much has he messed up and was truly sorry about it likr he wouldn't have caught Peter's hand if he wanted to die. So yeah that's all I have to say. And daumn this comment was made like 6 years ago I know you wouldn't reply but anyways I hope you are doing okay.

@@weaponx0526 I get what you're saying, but the development on Peter felt too little too late for me. After seeing what happens with Gwen in the Amazing Spider-Man 2, I hated the last scene. You can have your opinion, but that's my two cents
@mozartcastellanosGK3 жыл бұрын
That is a point of view thing, the theme of responsibility was indeed done perfectly in Raimi's first one however in TASM what makes it memorable is Andrew Garfield's performance and the chemistry with Gwen, when he dons the costume he literally sells he is Spidey for me plus there were some issues in the comic book did show Peter being Andrew Garfield's attitude, he changes the attitude through time and Marc Webb did opposite of the visual aesthetics, bringing it more closer to a modern source material just for reinventing itself but I think it shouldn't retell the origin story.
