All of the Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu techniques are powerful and precise. Some are of an almost unimaginable complexity and ingenuity. As aikidoka, this is our lineage!

I am 55 years old. I studied martial arts from '75. Judo and Shotokan Karate at that time were the chance in Italy. After, in the '80 and '90, i practided also wheightlifting for strength and freestyle cacthing. Only from 2010 i am studying Daito ryu Aikijujutsu. Now i know the real power of a old martial art. Now i know the roots of the new arts, like Aikido, and i see the influence of the chinese breathing metods in the Kata. Thank to Great Master like Sensei Kondo and Sensei Omija for their patient and for the opening to west world.

Had this art been available to practice where I worked and lived as a younger man, I would have been the first to sign up!! But alas all there was available at the time was the usual judo and karate clubs and some fledgeling kung fu clubs which were all the rage in the early 70's..Before that I had some experience in judo as a teenager and although great fun, I just found it lacked something, but could never put my finger on it. I got involved with boxing during my service stint in HM Forces for a few years when time allowed, but that all stopped after leaving service. I bummed around from judo clubs to karate clubs and some kung fu, but it was all about what was better than your martial art etc etc... In reality they all had something to offer....Had there been MMA available I would have probably gravitated to that... When I did come across an aikido club, it was Tomiki style and little did I know then what it was and where it came from....I was looking for an effective art which to some extent it was, but the practitioners there were not that much cop, so I went further afield.... Again I always felt there was something missing even though I went through regular hard training for many years up, even starting my own club and experimenting with what I had learnt, and even mixing it together which was great, but few takers as it was a bit hairy at times!! There were a few who did partake and they became really good at Tomiki aikido!! I never forced anyone to partake if they didnt want to and just taught the regular Tomiki curriculum to those who came along for just that and what was expected of the org I was involved with up until the early 90's ... Eventually, I went out on my own, dissatisfied with the limitations in what I was doing, even though there was a competitive element and free hard randori in the style I was practising!! At the time Stanley's Aiki News became available in the UK and from there, thanks to Stan, I was able to learn all about the history of aikido and aikijujutsu.... Dam it Stan!! If aikijujutsu WAS available at the time, Its what I would have done!! The missing god damn link!!! Never mind, Its been a great time learning over the years and now I'm satisfied with my own composite system, which works for me.... Things evolve, as will aikido, of that I'm certain, for better or worse, but at least now many people will be able to start with aiki jujutsu, but alas that is evolving for better or worse as well!! I am now of the opinion that the late great Bruce Lee really knew what it was all about.... Be yourself, take and use that which is useful and works for oneself and discard that which is useless.... How right he was...

Not that simple. In UFC no one is charging at you with a Katana. Also most of the moves shown here are banned in Judo/Akido competitions because of its lack of saftey. You want students coming back to train, not having them retire crippled after a few lessons. So since it's banned it is rarely thought in DOjo's because Dojo's want competition prestige. Prestige from their own competition not from us dumb and silly westerners who always act like roid up gym bros, especially the type of people who are die hard UFC fans, they are just as toxic as the Old school WWE people

Is this a sport or a martial art? It does not look practical on the streets.

@@GhostGrind ha ha, first you post a brain dead comment saying this stuff is not practical, only to then refrence three arts that are also not practical. You sound like a UFC bro, only that the UFC bro would think you are just as clueless. If you are talking practicality for the streets then it's simply one of: Muay Thai, BJJ, Boxing ... You know, what dominates the UFC so at its most practical it's simply an MMA class. If you want to be a good, practical and well rounded fighter then you pick a Striking art: Kyukushin, Boxing, Muay Thai, Kickboxing and a Grappling art: Wrestling, BJJ, Judo, Sambo, and just master the two arts. later you can learn all the other arts and apply certain things from: TaeKwonDo, Karate(all non Kyukushin styles), Kung Fu, Capoeira, Akido, JKD, Krav Maga etc... because as stand alone styles, these are all woefully inefective in the streets and vs an MMA or a BJJ fighter, but they all can elevate the game of a well rounded fighter who can absorb the good moves and do away with the bad habits.

Utterly ridiculous. DIdn't MMA expose all this stuff for the useless choreography fantasy that it is? It's a "martial art" for virginal Dungeons and Dragons nerds pretending to be ninjas.

its not "useless choreography fantasy" its cultural tradition and a hommage to the old martial ways. No one even in China/Japan is coming at you with a Katana now a days, so yes it is useless now, but still important to history and tradition. Then some of these moves make no sense to train or even perform in UFC unless you want no one ever training with you or to land in jail. Take the throw at 1:20 for example. an old throw also from Judo. This throw is not thaught in judo because it almost guarantees severe injury. you are landing flat on your back and back of the head, im sure you can already imagine how devastating that would be on an octogon ring, or out on the streets in pavment or grass. If you have guys going into the octogon performing this move then it would be ending fighters careers when there is no need to it, just how it will be injuring syudents who come train with if it where widley thought.
