The criticism on here bewilders me. The singer was clearly a bit nervous for their first live TV performance. The beauty of live music is the raw passion and emotion. Who cares if he can't reach some notes - he's not Ella Fitzfuckingerald. I was too fixated by the music to notice funnily enough. I find it very surprising that people think every singer's singing ability has to be top notch, so critical. There's more to singing than meeting the notes.

Agreed. A lot of bands are SO much better live when they’re in their element and at their own concert. Nerves can get the better of you when you’re playing in front of a crowd who you know most likely prefer Lady Gaga... I’ve seen them live and his vocals were outstanding, even the high notes!

Coming back to this vid has made me realise how good they are now! Don’t get me wrong, they’re not bad. But Matt’s vocals have come along way. Big love for The Amazons!! x

I'm gonna chalk this performance down to nerves, as these guys are phenomenal live

It's been said before but Matt's vocals are first class live now. Go and see them live you will not regret it.

They've come along massively. Matt's vocals are brilliant. Glad they're starting to get recognition.
@garethaskins55297 жыл бұрын
Again just repeating what others have said, this was clearly put down to nerves as a first live TV performance. Yes, the vocals aren't great, but I've seen them live and they were incredible. You only have to watch their set from Radio 1's Big Weekend to back that up. Their debut album is brilliant, and this song is catchy af. I'm just happy there's another talented British rock band coming on the scene, certainly think they have the potential to become a big deal one day 👍

Love The Amazons, way too much hate on these guys. Is this the strongest their vocals have ever been? No - but that doesn't stop this being a freaking awesome song.
@jameshartley25387 жыл бұрын
yellowd seen them do an hour set live and they are absolutely mind blowing, it's a shame his vocals weren't up for it this time, probably down to nerves but I don't know why they're getting grief.. absolutely amazing band live and they'll be absolutely huge in the coming years. Great bunch of lads as well 👍🏻 Matt has got a great voice usually, everybody has an off day.

Couldn't agree more! And I've definitely heard bands do a hell of a lot worse under pressure! ...I've got tickets in October for my birthday so I'm really looking forward to seeing them live then, but just from stalking through youtube vids you can tell the talent they've all got!
@jameshartley25387 жыл бұрын
yellowd you'll absolutely love it ! I saw them in Manchester but I think they'll be in bigger venues from now on!

Yeah, this autumn tour still seems to be some pretty small spaces but judging from the exposure they appear to be getting, hopefully things will sky-rocket for them this year... they deserve it!

I play live now and again, it's very daunting and you are never as good as you want to be. Give these guys a break, they are trying to play infront of a TV audience, it must be bum (and everything else) clenching, not relaxed to the extend where you can perform well. I can't understand this culture of criticism we have eneterd, no wonder young people are having such problems with low self-esteem. Get behind young bands, they need the support more now than ever...

I said the same thing. Good musicianship but very weak voice for a frontman
@rupertross-macdonald77507 жыл бұрын
Damn right. Every good vocalist has tough moments - Robert Plant was magnificently out of tune with Zep. Far far better than the so-called perfect breathy warbly voice auto-tuned shite that assaults our ears most of the time.

Looking thru the comments i see a lot of resentment towards a band that's going places. touch of envy, perhaps? see them live - they have proper fans who know how to appreciate them... le's see a year from now...
@connorhowitt91646 жыл бұрын
such an incredible song, it hast to be said that it sounds better from the recording studio, but very talented guys with an ability to write a class song, but the vocals undeniably let this particular performance down.

Punkier edge to what is normally a pretty clean live performance. Tone and music is still pretty incredible, even if the vocals are a touch off. Muffling is odd though. Still love these guys.

Yeah, I saw them live last week and was thoroughly disappointed, mainly with the vocals. Also, contributing about 6 songs in a single set to Declan McKenna is not very nice when there's a whole crowd of people in front of you.

Heard all this before, nothing new here......on the plus side, the vocalist has a fine head of hair.

Love the amazons but few mistakes! :( , (vocals too weak in places, missed the pedal at chorus, dropped pic at the end) put it down to nerves ! Bring on Reading 2017 !

Junk food forever aside I really like these guys. watching this on t.v. your Going to notice every detail but if u were in the crowd with a few beers down you, you definitely wouldn't give a shit or even notice the vocals are slightly off

Normally on Jools Holland bands tend to work on perfecting the sound. I think they were treating it more like a gig. Great song but I wonder if they see this again they would possible do it differently. Doesn't matter to me but obviously it does to the critics on here.

Wow people are so quick to judge an entire band in only 4 minutes yes there is a few mistakes and the vocals are a bit off but they're a great band with some good songs. I've seen them live and this is the worst i've seen them play but until you watch some of their other performance you can't really bash them.

well that's what you would call first impressions... my first time here... love the music and the melody is great but goddamn he needs to practice to control his voice more... not hating just pointing out

It's rock and roll , how cares if the singing is a tiny bit off in a few places? Think what doesn't make these band brilliant is the lack of solid lyrics for me.

Blimey it’s as though punk rock never happened. Who cares about mistakes and the like. It’s what makes a performance real. Good, bad or indifferent they’re up there doing it. Save the prog attitude bollocks for something else.
@walkerrgamingg33276 жыл бұрын
I don't know how anyone can justify these vocals. When have you ever seen Alex Turner, Liam Gallagher, David Bowie, Kieran Shudall, Mike Kerr sing THIS out of tune. This band gives me hope for future artists who can actually sing. @lolabanduk

This was the wrong song for them to do live. If you listen to the recorded version the vocals are much better (as you can imagine) but also prove how difficult they are. It's not that the Amazon's are a bad band it's just they're not a great band and this performance proved it.
