This has been very informative. Thank you for breaking down how this new block theme works as I have been away from the WordPress thing for quite some period of time. It will be interesting how this all evolves esp with web programmers that liked more flexibility with the source code of classic themes.

I agree with you! Flexibility -- yep... I spent years building my own custom themes and the Guttenberg introduction through me for a loop! Only good thing that came from it was forcing me to go from learning JavaScript React to mastering it.

I would love to see, as I’ve yet to see how to take a custom design made in let’s say Figma and convert it to a block theme. That’s how we work. We get a design approved by a client and then make it a reality in code. I have yet to see a planned design converted to a block theme. Most of these block theme development videos show tinkering around with block themes. Not a start to finish including dealing with responsive areas. I’ve heard the term “intrinsic design” thrown around but I can’t get a design approved and then tell the client “it’s gonna flow how it flows on devices”. I think you’ll get more views on taking a design and converting it to a block theme. I know it would greatly help me out with this new way of doing it in a modern way. I’ve been coding WP themes since 2010 but I’m lost with this new way but I really want to learn it. Thanks!

I left WP over the Guttenberg hullabaloo and have not felt fondly toward it since the introduction. I came here curious as to how things were developing as the small biz clients know the term WP and always wonder why I resist. Anywho, my negative side anticipated a presentation that would be for first-graders, the beginners who don't have a clue what PHP or json means. I was pleasantly surprised to hear "my" language being spoken. After a day of fussing with headless, this was relaxing and a nice surprise. I'm with WebDesignerArmer in preferring the flexibility of writing my own themes but it does seem some progress is being made from the intro days. Thanks! (Would be nice to have these vids coded "beginner" "advanced" or "know it all" ..lol..
