It just goes to show that Netflix has no idea how to release anime, they killed all the hype for jjba part 6 with that terrible release schedule and they did it again with Pluto. I wouldn't say that the anime is a masterpiece, it definitely has its flaws, the biggest one being the ending. As cool as Brau 1589 coming in, ripping the spear from his chest and killing the villain was, they just dropped the main villain in randomly at the end and didn't even say who it is. It still didn't deserve the treatment that it got tho.

I really enjoyed my time with Pluto, and I'm so glad someone made a video about Pluto.
@DecimatedVRКүн бұрын
I think part of the reason Pluto might subsist on a very niche audience is because of its source material. When I first read the manga, I did not have an in depth understanding of the characters of Mighty Atom/Astro Boy, and while the initial story hook was strong and easy to understand and kept me going, by the end of the series, I felt lost in my understanding of many of the characters' motivations. Many of them are introduced in such a way that you are just supposed to know who it is. For fans of the original, that is easy, but I found myself having to go back and read the original in order to educate myself (both the early origin issues so I'd know who everyone was and the Greatest Robot on Earth story itself), then reread the entire Pluto manga to fully enjoy it. Yes, the reward is there eventually, but that's a big ask for a wider audience who might not want to take the time to delve into what they view as a "dated" manga or anime written seventy years ago when that audience wants something cutting edge and new with immediate understanding and payoff. Not only that, but Astro Boy seems to be marketed as a children's show here in the States, so I imagine most people who find out Pluto is "about Astro Boy" just assumes it's for kids or something.
@giulyanoviniciussanssilva2947Сағат бұрын
I think Pluto is out of its time, we are no longer in the times of Akira and Ghost in the Shell, when this type of anime would be a huge success at the time when anime was are aliens, now anime is see in another way. The same underapreciation stupid separation of other midias and vision about this media, but more "mainstrean".
@giulyanoviniciussanssilva2947Сағат бұрын
But I think the child thing is possible. There is blood and violence in the Pluto trailer and it shows horrible things, but Battle Shounen is aimed at young audiences and has gruesome themes and strong images. People still treat it as something lesser because it is for young people. Imagine the work based on Atom, which is more mature than a lot of the trash that these people consume, but it is treated as lesser because it is for children. Otaku and the general public still have the same immature treatment of age groups in stories, especially in Japan, where the vision of adults and young people is mixed up by the magazine publishing system and demographics.

It's not a show I could watch again until 5 or 10 years after I've watched it. When I first heard about the anime I was so confused because I never heard or read the manga. I see Astro Boy in the trailer but he looks different and the tone of the trailer was so serious. I was really confused as to what Pluto was. Did it take place in the world of Astro Boy or was it its own story with Astro Boy characters in it? Does it work on it's own or did I have to watch specific Astro Boy episodes to understand Pluto? I had to look up videos on KZbin to get a clearer understanding. Maybe and hoping it will get the appreciation it deserves some point in the future.

Just my two cents: The story elements were very cool, but the pacing was incredibly slow. That's why it didn't gain traction. You come in expecting a war between the greatest robots in the world but instead you get a slow drama where the fights are virtually unseen and few in between. I like having drama, i.e., an emotional backdrop for the battle scenes because it makes them more meaningful, but I expected big payoffs after each dramatic interlude which I did not get. Again, just my opinion.

The worst part is that for me it was a sure hit. Cyberpunk, Syfy, which put anime on the map in part because of Akira and Ghost in the Shell, even Cyberpunk Edgerunners was a hit. The plot of NORTH2 about war loses motherhood to art, for me the anime was sold... Unfortunately I forgot Netflix's method of making special works die, the company that made the worst Live Actions in this media. And that Akira was a time, the time for this type of work to be successful has passed and I can't say why Pluto flopped, I can only say that I hope it was a success in Japan because that's the primary audience and Pluto deserves it, but it's unlikely to become very popular, let's see if it doesn't become a success or isn't sold to another Streaming.

just put things in a context back in the day when you had really really good paradigm changing anime it would just be available on tape months and months later not like this is not the same amount of time that the reception of something like Pluto would because now things religious released digitally. You just have to wait for the rental effect to kick in where people start to actually watch it when they’re bored and realize how good it is, which could take monthscould take more weeks from now. It could even take years so I don’t know that’s just kind of a classic anime fan dilemma peace love
