Devilman Crybaby being an example of how you can pull off genuinely emotional moments within an extremely absurd setting so long as the characters are written to be believable
@sboinkthelegday3892
@sboinkthelegday3892 2 жыл бұрын
And that's why escapism walks in lock-step with alienation. The insistence to FORGET that "yeah, this was written by SOMEBODY", so you can pretend what they WROTE is some kind of grand truth and not the shared FEELING you had with them, like a religious experience. If you don't believe the characters, even if it's just by cultural difference to a real human being's character, you WON'T pull off emotional moments together, even if you look them in the eye and see the life drain out of them after a hit from your bayonet. You will forget they were somebody. If you don't rely on escapism, EVERY anime is as believable as a letter, written in all the earnestness as it has. When you don't have a culture of having already SEEN all the same daytime TV and pretty much have all the same cultural biases that you already believe in anyway, that inference becomes an important skill in finding any contact with another human being. And have topics to discuss other than the latest packet of entertainment from the refinery.

Devilman Crybaby is the only anime i’ve ever watched that left me with the most confused and uneasy feeling. The whole demon vs humanity was so cool, yet so disturbing and unsettling. The one moment that stood out to me the most was when the little child was eating his mother, and his father had to witness that. Tears falling from the demonic child unable to control his action. That moment is what started the emotional roller coaster for me.

those last few episodes were absolutely traumatizing... I'll never forget what I saw. Especially considering I went into this thing fully blind. I hadn't a clue about the original DMCB manga, nor the original anime, all I knew was the music was good because it showed up on my spotify. So I decided "fuck it, imma give it a watch it sounds interesting." That night I decided to watch the entire season and it really really fucked with me. It still does I don't think it's something I can ever watch again with the knowledge of those last few episodes. I don't think a show has ever made me feel this strongly upset. Not even Evangelion was able to strike me as hard as this one did.

If they could make Re:Zero more serious, without overpowered friendships which crush every obstacle... Let characters die! It's life and people needs to overcome it too... Maybe that's why I liked DMCB, but it felt hollow in meaning after a weak. Legend of the galactic heroes (1988-1997) is more meaningfull, but isn't an emotional rolecoaster. Nah, it was soo good, that I stopped watching anime for a few months and could not find satisfaction in other titles.

When I finished the series and noticed it was effectively a repeating cycle, I realized that the end and the beginning were one and the same...but they didn't have to be. Ryo constantly makes the same mistakes, and constantly suffers the same punishment at the end for it, and it doesn't have to. The scene of Akira desperately trying to hand the little track stick (whatever it's called) to him, that plea for Ryo to finally understand always comes far too late. So the cycle begins again, and it doesn't have to, and all it would take is for Ryo to finally learn empathy, something Akira will always try to teach him until he does.

Rather than science saru, the style is more influenced by the director of Devilman crybaby - Maasaki yuasa. He is the founder of the studio and the one who actually directed all the shows saru has, +some other too. The reason why you probably thought that tatami galaxy or Kaiba was done by saru? Because it was directed by Masaki Yuasa. Basically rather than the studio itself, the staff working on all the projects you mentioned are the same. And because the director for all the shows of saru are the same, it has now become the studio's style thta people refer to them as. And the soundtrack is done by Kensuke Ushio. Mans a living legend in the industry. Working with only high level productions, he has made other iconic soundtracks like for ping pong, a silent voice and the upcoming Chainsawman. Thats it, if you read this hope you learnt something now about the industry, and have a great rest of the day wherever you are :))

I started this anime not knowing anything about it and because of the Netflix thumbnail looked interesting and cool. I binged the entire show late at night till morning and it definitely left a huge impression on me. After watching I just sat on my bed whilst cobtemplating bout life looking out the window. I also felt sad for a week or so.

Strangely, this anime was actually a source of great comfort for me when I was going through a really rough time in my final year of high school. Probably because of how much it gripped my focus and thoughts and allowed me to think about the story it told rather than my own sorrow and troubles. This anime will truly forever hold a warm spot in my heart and retain its place as one of my favorite animes.

It’s also realistic because the demons are us, humans; Akira turns into a demon yet protects all the humans throughout their spectrum of emotions. Emotions in our human nature that can lead us to our inevitable sins yet but that comes with free will, and we don’t know any better. Akira knows we don’t any better because he was and still is human that always felt emotions and couldn’t help but cry no matter the situation. And he takes pride in that capability to feel and believes we all should be be allowed to. However, Ryo believes it’s a unrighteous path that will only lead to demise and he’s not wrong. Indulge too much of it then you turn into a twisted creature from hell. Yet, that doesn’t make free will or human nature wrong either. It just life on earth. You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t feel what you felt. Your free will is the right to either side with either Akira or Ryo, or you can find balance in both. The narrative frame almost makes it seem necessary for us humans to disobey God in order to be human. Our greatest blessing yet curse that she granted us, because regardless, She will always love us. I believe God is a black women because they’re the only beings in the universe with the capacity to give that much unconditional tough love that allows you to have faith in yourself like people find in any religion around the world. It’s indescribable but it’s so warm and you just can’t help to get a hug 🫂 Or maybe I just been smoking too much weed lol, who knows. [personal opinion: I believe a healthy balance is important. What you hear about Christianity is the most extremes (God and Satan) but like Bible itself is a lot more themetic tedious and complex but it’s kinda a guide through Human Nature just like any other religious text. otherwise for obvious reasons, while even other religions keep the theme of “bro you’re human, just find a balance and deal w the afterlife when it comes lol”. You find a balance, you’re able to indulge in this blessing that is life. Which paradoxically, God blessed you with, why? Because She loves you. That’s why everyone is born with love, love births human natures, thus a bigger spectrum of emotions. Devil was the first and main one to take pride in that believe it made us equal. Which isn’t true because you can’t ever serve 2 masters always. God being one, the other being yourself. God ofc understands this but he will always be far, or eastern religions believe, karma. You indulge in yourself or one of your emotions too much you can always find yourself in a pickle. But you whatever pickle is all people can usually tell you is to “have faith and you’ll get through it.” (Just like a black mama would say lmao) But human nature is BEAUTIFUL, the spectrum of emotions that bring experience that leads to expression and this cycle continues relentlessly! This how we have phones, this why you’re watching this fucking amazing video and hearing about this amazing fucking anime that is literally just now teaching me basically everything in the world it seems like. I watched this shit like when it came out and only took away just about much as Scam says in this video. I’ve been goin through a lot and then I watched this again and applied to everything I’ve been thinking about. BUT SEE, HUMAN NATURE ALLOWS US TO GROW OFF EACH INTO NOW EXPRESSIONS AND EXPERIENCES. it’s just that it goes both ways, good and bad. That’s where having some sort of faith or spirituality and maybe extreme philosophy can come in, because when shit get tough, and it does get tough, our universal feeling of love gets twisted like a ballon animal into different emotions n shit, and it can run laps around us and we find ourselves in a spiral of sins and hate. Because there’s a thin line between love n hate, that’s why God punishes us. That’s why your love punishes you when you let it get out control. And we don’t always have the capacity to love ourselves or others enough to forgive ourselves for how we are and human nature but guess who does. God, or whatever your core foundation is in your philosophy, understand that we were all born innocent and we’re all human. Forgiveness and faith should go both was or it’s not real love, it’s faulty. This works in different aspects, for our mind/soul/body. And if you ever want to find eternal peace, you find something you put faith in and KNOW you will get a return in some capacity. If you don’t know what faith is, probably because you weren’t shown an healthy example because most weren’t shown or lost their ways, why? Because we’re all humans, but you remember this, we all weren’t born like this, depend how will you can do that in yourself or others, you can expect faith/love in return. Lucifer put entirely too much love in himself and completely lost balance that’s why God casted him from heaven. (Again I feel like bigger picture of Christianity is but extreme that why many may be turned off by it from the get go but you probably find similar themes in other religions as well.) In all, drink more water, eat healthy, sleep well, subscribe to him, fuck racism sexism n allat, n when you don’t feel know love, faith that someone dies because someone always does. 🫶🏽

Been a fan of Devilman for years, so you have no idea how happy I was when a modern adaption was announced. Up until then I had to make do with the OVAs, the myriad Manga variations (special mention to Amon), and Soul Taker to satiate my craving. Considering we had gotten the Devilman/Cyborg 009 crossover the year prior the last thing I expected was Crybaby. And even knowing Devilman can only ever end in one way, I still felt it when it happened. The cycle continues.

Devil man crybaby was one of those shows I watched, now that I look back, around the time that I was starting to stop watching anime. That show dropped right at a time when anime was kind of starting to pass me by. It reignited a passion in me for a while. When I bought the KLK soundtrack I saw the soundtrack to this show and had to toss in in there. It's and interesting thing. For a while I bemoaned my inability to relate to shows. I concluded I had just shifted into a manga fan. Now I sit here having spent the last 2 days dilligently working on art, singing, and sumo wrestling. The person that had to have his identity validated by media has been gone for a while, and I have always just now come to terms with that. I have consumed all manner of ideas and experiences and reached a point in which I relate more to the creators than the characters in the media. For the longest time I haven't been able to enjoy films because I can pick apart every shitty cinematography issue, I haven't been able to enjoy anime because nothing compares to the good stuff I've seen prior, and I can't enjoy manga for a similar reason. For the longest time I bemoaned that as a lowering of standards etc, when in fact it was just my autistic ass having binged everything that was worth watching. I'm happy to have reached a point where I have entirely changed gears, I am now wanting to and spending more time creating than on leisure.

The story of Devilman is one of my favourite ones, even the manga and the old anime, maybe it had some silly moments but it also had very profound ones too from the beginning as how war only causes more destruction than good, the irony on the actions of Satan and how the greatest horror wasn’t the demon’s invasion but instead the paranoia and its consequences making humans show both their best and their worst, though in the end Akira no longer being a human was the most human out of everyone. Devilman is one of my favourite characters and it filled me with joy when I heard that they would adapt the whole story into an anime back in 2018.
