I would love to have a conversation with Dr. Lyons. I was disabled and laid up for over 5.5 yes in a bed at 37 yes old. I have defied all odds and work our. I'd love to learn more about building muscle I already do weights hiit and Lil cardio but I am at 43 post menopausal with atherosclerosis coronary artery disease. All from being laid up sedentary and doctors didn't help me til 1.t yrs ago I found 1 who actually cared about do no harm. They rest threw meds at me to make me more comfortable. I'd so love to conversation with her so very much. I can jump rope and run and do things when I couldn't even walk and the pain was torture. I am now in the best shape I've ever been but muscle I struggle with putting more on. Also the Dr Marie Clair Haver the menopause doc would be amazing as well . I truly hope I get to be one of the ppl who get blessed to come but if not picked I accept with grace and happy just to watch whomever you do end up having on the show. I want to expand my life and the Healthcare today the doctors usually don't care here its all about the dollar and getting in and out as many patients as possible but the pharmaceutical companies own how the doctors work it seems. Pushing medication as the answer when there in fact are healthy natural ways . I even had a mild heart attack almost 3 years ago. I had asked to be tested for menopause countless times just to be discounted by every doctor saying I was too young and so on. They were wrong ! I'd love to converse with these two ladies 💯 what a blessing it would be and just to even watch the content from your videos with them is a blessing. Thankyou for your channel it's amazing!!!

Dr Lyon saved my health 8 months ago with 1 simple phrase: build muscle, ignore fat. I added protein shakes, adopted a protein rich diet, lifted weights 3 times a week, booked a few training sessions with a personal trainer to learn and added testosterone supplement. Lost almost 60lb in fat, am in an amazing shape for a 45 year old man. I have an amputation so couldn’t do any cardio.

Congrats to you! If you have a few bucks I reccomend getting your testosterone levels checked. I started TRT and lifting weights again and I look like I did 20 years ago. Lets just say dating women became much easier lol

My neighbour is nearly 90 and has no dementia or Alzheimer's or any illnesses. Her husband has heart issues he's just over 90 but no dementia he did smoke and drink up until his 70s. But what these 2 do is never sit and get quality sleep! They walked their dogs daily, gardening, did repairs on their home on their own, never miss their drive to the beach on a lovely day to take in the sea breeze and vitamin D intake. She used to be a cleaner and outdoor maintenance work so she would have carried heavy items daily and walked most of the day mot a smoker or a drinker. They both are a loving couple 2nd marriage and always there for eachother and helping others. Country life Im sure contributes with fresh air and they only sit to eat, watch the news or a movie. Im sure genetics help especially if your parents had no obesity, diet also makes a difference if it didn't include soft drinks regular junk food and deep fried white food.

She’s right about anyone at any time can put on muscle. I’m a 52 year old overweight woman. I started lifting weights twice a week 13 weeks ago and it’s made all the difference in my balance, movement, ability to perform daily tasks easily. I’ve lost 13 pounds and plan to lose more.! I can run up a stairs now. The benefits are amazing. I’m going to start adding a third day of strength training!

Exercise is so important. For humans and pets. I’m a housekeeper. One of my clients dogs had to be put down yesterday. He was still fully aware and responding but his body was very weak. He had a good life with the family but was never walked. The lack of muscle made it impossible for him to get up and go pee or drink water. It was such an eye opener, how important it is to build muscle and exercise. You need the muscle down the road to perform simple tasks, as going to the restroom. At 55, and in full on menopause, I’ve come to realize that what I invest now into my body, will help me when I’m 80. It’s a great motivator to stay active and disciplined. No longer is it about looking great and fitting into my jeans. It’s all about health and self care and living a quality life when I’m older.

“If you don’t have time for health and wellness, how will they have time getting sick” is a great way to address those who continually make excuses not working on getting healthy. A friend of mine lived this recently. She had to take two months off of work w/o pay, and she still has residual negative effects. Health is wealth in so many ways!

Mid life crisis is so real but crisis also means opportunity… thank god for Gabrielle Lyon to wake us up! I used to do weight 4 times a week, and was consistent for 2 years but I stopped 8 months ago because I wasn't getting the results I thought I should be earning. I was so focused on the external that I lost sight of the true importance of just being healthy and moving my body. This talk really put things in perspective for me. I was a geriatric nurse, fresh out of college, a few decades ago. I saw the decline, first hand. It was hard to watch. I saw my own parents decline. I practice balance and strength training. I practice getting on the floor and getting myself back up. I believe I am in excellent health for a 61-year old woman, who stays away from overly processed foods, works on my mental & emotional well-being and sleep. Often, it can be hierarchy of needs. It should be #1. But, as a busy mother I did put my own health, last. I am proof that you can improve with age.

I agree. HOWEVER...I'm 76, decades of mostly prone due to debilitating illness, already have sarcopenia, and still only able to walk slowly maybe once a day. ANY VALID HELP AND I'LL TRY IT. But, how to know what's the real deal with conflicting info😮?

When I was in Okinawa I was biking on a remote island where these 90 year old grandmas were riding bikes working gardens and cutting sugar cane. Meanwhile I see seniors in their 70s in the US unable to barely move around. Movement and activity are what keeps the body alive and going.

I just saw Live to 100 on Netflix and Okinawa was a blue zone. Blue zones are places where people have longevity because of diet, and community, they garden and sit on the floor which is good for you. We don't plan to get old and that's a problem.

Bought her book through Audible. It was worth reading. What I like about her is her message to women about gaining and maintaining muscle. Most women don’t know how important this is. It’s a great message, and even even better that it’s coming from a woman.

@@brainsandbeauty2832 for me the quote means that you can greatly decrease the chances of getting sick (or having other health conditions) by spending your time exercising (stretching, cardio, building muscle) and having healthy lifestyle (no alcohol, smoking, processed food, etc.). Does it mean you are immune to all health conditions? No. Can you still get cancer? Yes. Can you greatly decrease chances of getting cancer? Yes. And that is what is the quote about at least for me. People think they don't have time for taking care of their body, but they don't realize that they will spend much more time taking care of their sickness that could be prevented (if they took care of their body in the first place). But of course sometimes you cannot prevent some things no matter how much you try. Does it mean that you should not try? Everybody has to answer this for themselves.

Great content as always! I just want to say for anyone with chronic health problems, be reallistic about your goals. I used to feel inadequate that I couldn't reach these goals, ignoring the fact I have serious health problems. We can all make improvements, but listen to your body.

Stay away from sugar, weight train 3-5x a week, walk daily, eat lots of protein! Especially for us post menopausal women! I’ve been working out since I was 20 yrs old, started weight training at 40 because my family doc told me I should. I’ll be 61 in November and am very strong and healthy! My blood work is at optimal levels! I thank my doc every day for telling me to start weight training when I turned 40! When you rest, you rust!

I been weight training 39 years. Didn't do it because I knew how good it was for me. I got lucky and fell in love with it. I just wish I could post an image of what I look like at 56. Don't want to brag but I look 25. I weight train 4 days a week. I play pickleball 4 or 5 days a week. I've eaten Carnivore and transitioned to a meat based diet for 3 years and ate whole foods for decades before. I've been following Dr. Lyons' strategy of prioritizing muscle for decades. Wish I could show you all what it actually looks like.

@@tgray747 my wife is 45, and been active (running) for 15 years. After finding Lyon last year, she started lifting weights … her body dramatically changed and toned. I on the other hand, after an amputation, gained 60lb of fat and couldn’t do any cardio without pain killers and swelling. I thought I’d never be able to lose weight and started lifting too. I dropped 60lb of fat, have built great muscle and look 10 years younger. What she recommends - works.

Very cool video A month ago, I ended a five-year relationship. I think in general these folks are great and the info share is fabulous. In reality I have seen firsthand unfit people with terrible habits (not smoking or persistent alcoholism) outlive healthy people. I would say it's about 3 out of 10. For every 10 unhealthy people, 3 outlive a healthier person in their same age bracket. My dad seldom slept and ate horribly. His mobility stated to fail in his mid 60s and he required a walker after a leg break. He had prostate cancer. He had sleep apnea for a super long time. He had Type 2 diabetes that he managed. He lived until 89 with no dementia. He wasn't a super fit person, but he'd never been so he wasn't unhappy. I 💯 believe quality of life matters and varies by person. But I am always amazed when people so committed to their fitness don't live past 70.

The year was 2000. My yoga teacher trained with us for 90 minutes, then she continued another 60 minutes resistance training when all of us went home. She completed her routine with a 20 minute sauna where she showed me how to do a grand ecart. She was 80 years old then. I don’t have the awsome African American physique but I always try my best to follow her steps. She stopped teaching us 5 years later at 86 to take care of her ailing husband. I will celebrate my 73rd birthday soon and I still have her in my mental sight and in my heart Ok. Got to go. Hot yoga is so good for my aging joints. Can’t skip that. 😊🍁

If fitness was ingrained into our culture it would be equivalent to hygiene. Exercise is voluntary discomfort. You either pay for it up front earlier in your life and adopt it into your lifestyle or you pay for in after midlife.

I've been on Mounjaro for about 1.5 years and she's right: my skeletal muscle has increased from 46.4% to 53.7% since I started (and I've only very recently started calesthetics). I have been dieting in my life longer than I haven't been. Additionally, I've lost over 50 pounds (and 94 pounds from my highest weight). I am now down to 16% body fat. At 51, my "real age" has dropped dramatically to 46 now (which used to be higher than my actual age). I'm now starting running and resistance training and it feels really damn good and motivating being able to SEE the results without the fat hiding it. Finally, as a regular migraine sufferer (2-3 per week), I can now go 2 WEEKS without one and they are much less severe.

So good to raise the focus on the exterior at the expense of the interior. I see so many women from late teens and up to say late thirties who are so focused especially on their face and hair, spending a fortune on fillers, Botox, false eyelashes, brows, (also nails), hair dye and extensions, …., many are actually working in coffee shops etc. and probably still living with parents. They are spending all their money on their appearance rather than saving money, investing in skills, knowledge, health and fitness, strong relationships. Many young women are starting to make themselves look weird with all these fillers etc. I think it’s so sad. Nothing wrong with wanting to look nice but some people take this too far….., excessive vanity is often a rather off putting trait in woman and indeed men.

Thank you for this conversation and interview! Great information and so important. I watched my dad decline physically and he lived to be 82 but could not stand, use the bathroom, bathe or move on his own. I decided I want to stay as mobile as possible and have been weight training and walking. I am 55 and feel tired but don’t want to give in to the mindset that I am older so can sit around. I want to have a good quality of life in my 80s! Thank you!

Almost all questions were soft-ball questions for this lady. She contradicted herself 8 different ways, and you never pressed her on any of them. I would have enjoyed this more if you challenged her to apply her advice to a much broader group of people than those like herself. This one was a let done, Steve. I find my mindset muscle atrophies quicker than any other. If life gets in the way (which it often does) of my goals and healthy routines, and I have to step back from them from a while, that mindset has to be built up from scratch every time I come back. Even if its just a week or two. Maybe I'm just depressed.

It was actually another podcast here about brain health that changed my entire perspective on exercising and resistance training. I had always been on and off at the gym, I thought I was just not disciplined enough to do it, but I realized now that it was because my goals were short-termed. But my mentality on exercising is to keep my brain healthy and young and that has made it a lot easier to start and stick to the habit.

A body in motion, stays in motion. Just walk everyday for an hour at least without stopping. Eat organic, grass fed meats and organic vegetables. Avoid processed junk. That stuff she’s promoting is toxic in the long term. This is essentially an infomercial platform. I saw this happen when I worked in the TV industry - great shows sold out for big money offers to corporate companies. Learn to sell, but keep it short and subtle. Don’t make the entire episode a platform for your sponsor.

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. Thank you so much for another amazing episode, and another amazing guest! You did it again! After Peter Attia’s episode I got his book and I’m learning more about myself, what I can and should do for myself, after all my purpose for longevity is basically the same as his: stay healthy to see my daughter grow and be able to follow her without physical and emotional limitations. And it’s amazing how Gabrielle highlighted the most crucial elemento for me: our readiness! Psychically and emotionally stronger, but not based on appearance. Not at least at my age (42) because for me that’s not as important as it was before. And I know that if I focus on improving my physical skills, emotional balance… healthy in general, the rest may come along. I’m confident that I’ll age beautifully and naturally 😊

So, I had already purchased her book and am working my way thru it. It’s dense with scientific info (I would suggest she get an editor next time who is better with changing the language to a less scientific explanation for mainstream audiences who have no scientific background). I had lost 80 pounds over the past 2 years, and I swim 3-5 times a week, about a mile at a time, for my exercise. I saw her on Mel Robbins I think and bought her book because I was interested in the idea of another way to manage my glucose. My mom is 97 and still is mentally sharp and able to live alone. She does not drive now and we help with that and actual cooking and groceries, but she heats her meals, cleans kitchen, does laundry, makes bed, what I would call light house keeping, and she tries to use her stationary bike maybe 3-4 times a week. I want to be her, if I live that long, but with more ability to be physically active. She does battle depression and it’s hard to know what she could do to better that, as she is not from a place of medication and therapy. Given all of my mom’s factors, I thought Doctor Lyon’s ideas of strength were spot on, and I intend to accomplish what she suggests in 2025, plus, the idea of a bit more to eat is motivating! I loved this segment! I am wondering where Dr. Lyon suggests starting for those of us with severe Long COVID-associated conditions? Many of us with Long COVID (or other Auto-Immune type diseases) have gone from fully functioning baselines to being unable to do basic daily activities, let alone work out. When trying to exert ourselves, exercise, or do resistance training, many of us have experienced repeated cycles of complete crashes and sudden onset or exacerbation of conditions such as Mast Cell Activation, Post-Exertional Malaise, POTS, Neuropathy, Neurological and Cognitive Dysfunction, Dysautonomia, Cardiovascular conditions, Autoimmune Conditions, Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and Pulmonary Fibrosis, Endothelial Dysfunction, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Reactivation, Gastrointestinal Dysregulation, Hypercoagulability and Thrombosis, Joint Pain and Myalgias, Connective Tissue Disorders, Endocrine and Metabolic Dysregulation, Depression and Anxiety, Peripheral and Central Nervous System Damage, Persistent Inflammatory Response Syndrome (PIRS), and Vasculitis. We get up and try different forms of activity again and again, only to crash and worsen symptoms within these etiologies. A follow-up segment on starting resistance training for those with auto-immune or debilitating disease would be greatly appreciated!

If you are someone who is morbidly obese and struggling with overeating and willpower, Ozempic may be a way to help you get past the hunger and help kickstart a healthier lifestyle. I don't believe this Dr is saying EVERYONE should use Ozempic, but I can understand individual applications where it could be helpful for someones health journey, especially if they are considering more extreme methods of weightloss like surgery. Better to exhaust all non surgical options before going that route.

I love these nutritional interviews very much but I would love to hear questions regarding the person that leaves before the sun comes up and doesn’t get home until 8:00 or 9 o’clock at night and they do this five or six days a week. I would love to hear suggestions for someone who works outside of the home and literally runs out of minutes in their day. Would love thoughts on those scenarios! Asking for a friend 😁

Last week I was on a 3-hour delay for a 5-hour cross country flight. I got up and walked. I ended up walking almost 8 miles that day. They even had stairs and I went up 14 flights of stairs according to my watch.
