I had to watch twice. Just beautiful. You've captured the tone of the AT brilliantly and were able to express so much without saying anything at all!

I section hiked through that area last summer. Only my fourth section hike. This rivaled the Smokies. It was so beautiful. It was also sad that, as a solo hiker, I couldn't share it with someone. You captured a bit of that feeling I had with this clip. Kudos on a great clip! I hope your film is available soon!

My word, every time I pass thru that high country I remember that time in late december 00. It was a very close call for our group as a whole.

It's a tricky range to cross in the dead of winter, saddled with hip deep snow and whipping wind chills that drop to 40 below, in my experience going thru in late december anyway. But in late spring this place as you know is simply wonderful. Some of the best walking on the entire AT.

It's worth a long drive to get to. Late spring is a nice time up there, before the biting flies, and after the last of the snow.

Thanks. Have a great walk in the high country!

I would love to hear the story behind that trip. I'll be up there (Mount Rogers) this weekend for an overnighter. Would you be willing to share the trails that you took for this video? My brother is coming along with me and I would love to show him some of these incredible sights. Thanks for the great video.

Ha! thank you. I don't mind the questions at all. I haven't used Magic Lantern, but I plan to. Everything in the video is manually done. It requires nothing more than practice really. Lots and lots of practice. Decaf coffee can also be helpful. Mount Rogers is just about 1/4 of the way to Me. Nearby Damascus VA is a milestone for every thru hiker. The halfway point is located further north in PA.

Amazing...I'll be up a few hours away in a few weeks for work and want to hike a few days 35+ miles. Any advice. I'm in good shape and will be solo hiking w my lil mutt who does 20 miles a day no prob..

This is like a professional video. I hiked there yesterday and all I got were amateurish snapshots which I allowed google to set to less dramatic music in an automatically generated video. I could identify all the mountains to the northeast, cause that’s home, but I had no clue what I was looking at to the SW, thanks to the comments I know one was Grandfather mountain.

Jeff Meadows i hauled 35-40lbs of camera equipment for 3 days into the high country under sub zero temps and got lucky. I was under prepped for the weather. Note the couple shots where I’m walking in frame. I was wearing sandals.

It sure does, thanks!

And this video is why I love YOU! Or your channel at least lol. Do you use magic lantern for slow zoom fades? If you're doing that manually I envy you. Doesn't Mt Rogers pretty much mark the half way point to ME? Sorry for all the questions.
@kookiemoose12 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Not much of a story to tell really. All of the shots were taken from the Appalachian Trail (the white blazed trail) that runs thru Mount Roger Recreation Area, and also Grayson Highland State Park. There is a trailhead parking lot at VA600 Elk Garden (Whitetop Rd). This is the best access point to Mount Rogers from the Appalachian Trail this time of year. From Elk Garden to about 7 miles N-bound on the AT you will go directly thru the area covered in this video. PM me Q's if any?
