I accidentally bumped into a movie named " hey God it's me Margaret" while searching for this headache named "the archies" , both the movies are based on the 70s era, and middle-class teenagers .. but such a shame to Indian film industry, Bhai itna bhadda movie hai infront of the US one I watched.. highly recommend guys please watch that movie!

Adaption is totally fine but at least they should have adopt in an Indian culture without changing the source material and plot , for example Agastya Nanda's character is Adarsh which is based on Archies character just like Pavitr Prahabakar is based on Peter Parker and other actors as Indian characters based on the og characters in a totally Indian environment. Also the actors have tried very hard to look white and westerner to appease them and that's the main reason many people didn't liked or are not interested in the movie.

The cinematography and the wardrobe was amazing. Vedang (reggie) and aditi (ethel) acted well and looked good. Jughead and dilton were okay. The nepo trio was the most horrible, especially betty (khushi?) who was the worst actor and the least interesting to look at. The acting brought the whole movie down. It had a good premise, very cute and nostalgic aesthetic but when the actors can't act, nothing can save the film. I have seen high school plays that had better acting that this bunch. Archie, vernonica and betty should have been played by actors who could actually do their parts some justice. The dialogues were okay, but extremely cheesy (high school play quality). Zoya could have made this a great movie if she wasn't pandering to these nepos.

@@asthasingh8431 suhana was bad. No doubt about it. But her snooty nepo air suited her character. Khushi didn't suit the role and her dialogue delivery was completely flat. Suhana had a little more expression in her dialogues. She and agastya were both very awkward and stiff but both of them were slightly better than khushi (whose dialogue delivery looked like she was ai, kinda reminded me of fardeen khan from that haseen dard movie lol). Poor sridevi must be rolling in her grave. If the actor who played ethel, aditi, had been given Betty's role and vedang had been archie (although i think he suits reggie a lot, so there could have been someone else who played archie), i think the movie would have turned out to be better.

It was a movie let down by its story/plot and acting. Otherwise, let’s give merit where is it due. The cinematography, the set design, the costume design , even the musical numbers were good. It reminded me of simpler times. And yes some hill stations DID live like this in the 60s in India since they had a a huge British influence. Also majority of Indian audiences like really grassroots/village stuff doesn’t mean every movie and every director has to cater to them. To sum it up, I liked it. It’s a one time watch something just like those Hallmark Christmas movies 🍿

60s India WAS like this. Heavily Anglicised. Watch any 60s movie. The Hill stations left with British architecture, looked Exactly like this. 60s young generation was distant from the hardships of Freedom fight. Britishers had barely left India. The Elite Indians enjoyed the Anglo lifestyle, and cultural practices. Impressions of the Colonial era, taught by Britishers. Slowly slowly we re-found our identity and returned back to our culture.

But it wasn’t exclusively Christian and neither is Goa. The movie is shit but Zoya has very creatively transposed the Riverdale, America, setting to India, keeping the same characters. Also, if you have a teenager studying in an international school in Mumbai or Bangalore (not NCR), they speak the same English drawl.

Tbh, I liked the movie. It’s a one time watch and I agree it’s a no brainer movie but at times when we’ve so much going on in our personal lives watching something lighthearted with such a beautiful glimpse of yesteryear comic background was refreshing. Putting Nepo kids angle aside… and considering this just a fantasy, it still took me around hour to get familiarised with setting, characters and music and dialogues. It did evoke some emotions when it came down to whole section of Archie comes to decision of staying back and his whole convo with his father. Other than that it was just a fun ride, with one hummable song, Better young actors ho sakte the… lekin unke paise, unka camera… apne ko nahi Jama to nahi dekhne ka! Ye Aisa world create kiya hai jo 99.999% of Indians don’t relate to. I won’t say it’s a bad movie, rather it’s a well made movie. It is going to get a lot of hate due to Nepo kids, but it’s not that bad! Definitely ek baar to dekh ho sakte ho… bas Alpha male dekhne ki expectation mat rakhana!
