We all agree that it's gotta be the interrior, but some buildings' interiors can be as marvelous as their exteriors!

To connoisseurs of "real" architectural experiences Steven Holl is a recognized authority. His buildings are far too sophisticated (subtlety being one part of that) for most people to understand and appreciate. Most people look at glitzy mediocrity and are impressed by it. Las Vegas hotels = classic examples.

Viva KIASMA! + + + + Steven mentions his preference for a small office practice to work knowingly with all aspects of the spatial experience created. He is the patron saint of phenomenology in architecture and we are grateful for that leadership, bringing the experience of buildings into a genuinely aesthetic realm. He mentions that Zaha Hadid's office has hundreds of employees. Steven comes down AGAINST architecture offices of that bloated size. "Too corporate." // I wholeheartedly agree with Holl's comments on the compromising effects of digital renderings and those "gee wiz" walk-throughs. People viewing them do not really have to think much -- a project in an abbreviated form is given to them to swallow whole. He is also right on target with sites like designboom and dezeen. People comment on the pictures as if they were flipping through a magazine. No real connection, no actual experience of space and its phenomenological aspects. //
