Today on Tracie Reed Designs I am doing a Cloud Effect acrylic pour using the Ring Pour Technique. I love these acrylic pour paintings because they are so much fun and easy to do! The details and puffy clouds add so much dimension to it, and its always exciting to watch the results of the Cloud Effect Acrylic Pour.
This acrylic pour painting demonstration is intended to be an overview of the Ring Pour Technique. The photography in these videos is so good I’m not always knee on music playing but then way it’s done here doesn’t seem to bother me so much That moment when the paint dropped from the canvas was totally captivating I had to watch it again to take not of the consistency for the paint I’m like always stalking watching for the thickness or thinness when paint drips to get a better idea of what painters are mixing And well this was so closely zoomed in it was fantastic never seen the paint this close up I’ll be hanging out here on your page more often Thanks for all you do

I love all your paintings!! I know you love metallics and I was wondering what your favourite metallic paints are? I want to do a ring pour with mostly bright metallics, what would you suggest? I already have 24K gold, so that's going in there for sure. Looking for a nice copper, or bronze or even a green. Do you like deco art extreme sheen for holding their colours?

Thank you Joey 🥰 I love using DecoArt Americana and Extreme Sheen metallics. Those are probably my faves. The bronze and copper are Gorgeous! They have an Emerald Green which is super pretty as well. I also like Pebeo Iridescent Gold and Precious Gold.

Tracie Reed Designs since I was a kid, football games were like a sedative. We had 1 tv growing up, when football was on, I was sleeping on the couch. But, I put the last quarter on (waiting on Masked Singer) & I was on pins & needles. I love a good competition, even in football.

No worries Elzbieta. I was new once as well. Some people like their super runny. I prefer my paints to be a little thicker. You have to find out what works best for you. Experimenting is the part of acrylic pouring.

Love this! Are you pouring the paints directly from the tubes and jars and not thinning them? I would like to try this but don’t know what consistency and amounts to use. Could you explain?

Thank you. I mix all my paints with my pouring medium. Which is Liquitex pm, Floetrol, water and GAC800. If you are just starting out, start with Floetrol and water only. It depends on what type of paint you are using. Craft paint is best when first learning. Start with a ratio of 1 part paint to 1 part floetrol. If its still too thick, add a few drops of water at a time until you get the right consistency. (Don't add more than 30% water. It will cause the paint to break down. ) That is when you lift you stick out of the paint, the stream flows steady and creates a little mound. Then disappears quickly. It will probably be a trial and error process. That's how I learned. I hope this is helpful. 🤗

I'm fairly new to acrylic pouring and have attempted the 'cloud effect' recently. Since you are the expert on this, please tell me one thing. Do I have to use specific brands or colors of acrylic paints along with the cloud mix to get the effect? For example, say Liquitex Basics works with the cloud mix and makes gorgeous clouds and Brand XYZ does nothing at all when poured with the cloud mix. Is that the norm? We have to figure out which colored acrylic paints will react with the cloud mix to get any clouds?

Hi Rhonda. I have used many different brands of paints in my cloud pours. I haven't noticed one reacting differently than others. The main thing is the cloud mix recipe. If you don't have a good recipe you won't get good clouds. I do have a couple different recipes that work very well.

What did you do with the BEHR paint and primer satin enamel? And how ?

bushbosh I mix Behr satin enamel 50/50 with Artist Loft flow acrylic to make my cloud effect mix. Then I add it in my cup between other colors. That helps create the cloud effect.

bushbosh yes you can use it with floetrol as a base paint. I sometimes just thin it a bit with just water. Either way works.

I mix Behr Satin Enamel (Ultra Pure White) house paint 50/50 with Artists Loft flow acrylic (white) then add PM to the consistency of your liking.

Hi Tina. I didn't measure when I mixed these paints. However, I always suggest starting out with a 1:1 ratio and go from there.
