Jeff Speakman is one of the top martial artists in the world and a great person. I am fortunate to have my 11 year old son enrolled at Jeff's Kenpo 5.0 school in Las Vegas and see it firsthand. Jeff and his group of instructors are some of the most talented and personable black belts you will find teaching both adults and children. It is a great environment for people to learn Kenpo and understand the way of being a true martial artist. It is also great how the art has evolved to include various skills for grappling, ground fighting submissions and chokes. Great interview Scott, thanks for so much great content!

Indeed and it's a shame that Kenpõ like so many other good arts fell into the bad side of "politics and bickering" after the founder passed away, or even sometimes before the founder passed away: such as the split that resulted in the Tracy branch of American Kenpõ, or the various schools of Hapkidõ when it main base founder passed away; or even to a lesser degree when the four main branches of Kajūkenbõ started to evolve and have offshoots of sub methods, that tend to bicker more than work together, or even the various Ninjutsu organizations that tend to keep to themselves rather than working together.

Wow, what a cracking interview, and proves what an introspective and wise man Jeff is. I admit I haven't kept up with him since the mid 90s when he seemed to vanish, but after having watched this, I now have a deeper respect for him than before after seeing his films. A damn shame about the circumstances within the film industry that could have otherwise made him a huge star which he deserved, and still does. Thing is you can tell he's made peace with that, and considering the real fight he went through, well, a successful career was not on his mind when that was taking place obviously. As a lifelong practitioner of martial arts (five formats total), I've met people over the years who are in kenpo, and it's now clear as to why I view it as restrictive because in a traditional sense, it is. Good on Jeff for taking it to the next level which makes absolute sense. Of the five formats I am dedicated to, JKD is the most comprehensive in that it, too, is all about no limits and moving forward which was what Bruce Lee had in mind from the start. That was Ed Parker's wish for kenpo, proving that brilliant minds do think similarly. Moreover, I am even more grateful for Jeff in that his view of MMA is what I've thought from the go, making a lucidly clear distinction between as he put it martial arts and martial sports. It can be rather annoying whenever I meet people who once they find out I'm a martial artist assume I'm into MMA which I'm not, and never will be for reasons which should be obvious. For me, martial arts is such an integral part of my life/being, and with it, I've never set myself to limits/boundaries and outmoded rules which do not apply to real life, in combat and otherwise. All of this nonsense I've read and heard directly influenced by MMA, again, that may be the meat and potatoes inside an octagon with rules, but outside where there are no rules, it's clearly no longer defined by sport rules, but the lack thereof. Also, from what I've observed, a big percentage of these MMA fighters are motivated by greed and ego - Conor McGregor and others are examples of this, and while that may assuage these individuals for a moment, in the long run, it bears no significance. I mean, it's easy to get in that octagon and hurt each other, but like Jeff said, having a long lasting and positive impact on both yourself and others is the true spirit and meaning with martial arts. That being said, Jeff is a great guy and it's wonderful to see how appreciative and respectful he is to Scott who is carving out a place for himself both in martial arts as well as the world.

Sott, first off, as a former US Marine and Immigrant, I have always enjoyed your view points and talks. Such a humble person you are my friend. It is so sad that he was unable to continue his movie career, but his incredible prowess in martial arts fortunately continues in his worldwide teachings of American Kenpo Karate. Cannot believe I just got around to watching the last half hour of this episode which I started during lockdown. Jeff Speakman, criminally short film career but his eloquent description from personal experience of the marriage between life, death, legacy, character and the arts is what it's all about. Very inspiring.

WOW WOW WOW.....what a great interview. Totally blown away by Mr. Speakman's journey and wisdom. I had no idea that he is a cancer survivor and always wanted to know what happened to his martial arts film career. Thank you Scott Adkins for selecting him for your show and I am so glad he accepted. During this Pandemic, it is so important to hear what Mr. Speakman said regarding life and your legacy...how you conduct yourself, helping others, etc. Life is so short and this episode was so appropriate to watch now and always.

Scott's done so well so far - but I love how he shows the inner workings of others' work.

I studied under Mr Speakman in Australia for several years. What I love about Kenpo 5.0 is not only how dynamic it is but how I could go to any Jeff Speakman dojo in the world and train because they all follow the same system and it really works 😁🙏🏻

Wow... That was a great interview Scott... Listening to Jeff brought back SOOoo many memories from the late 70's for me. I had the opportunity to meet and speak with Master Parker at a Martial Art competition in London, Ontario, Canada, after his Demonstration team had put on there Demonstration.. Very Fast and flashy, for the time. Got Master Parker to sign my Certificate also. It's kicking around somewhere. I was also a fan of Jeff's movies , and just as you said , I also really felt the last part of his heart felt comments.. Excellent conversation , Thank you. I'm 74 and Still teaching, but have slowed down to Tai Chi & Qi Gong... with Fan, Sword, and Staff to keep me supple. Keep going Scott.. your the Best there is Today.

This was a fantastic interview, Jeff's words at the end are inspirational and had me on the edge of my seat, not only is Jeff a martial artist of high caliber but his mind set and thinking are on another level too, a great example for the new generation, great to see Jeff and thanks so much Scott for sharing this slice of history.

This interview absolutely floored me. I don't know what else to say that wouldn't cheapen the message. Thank you.
