Best advice I got on you tube is stop and pop. Never knew. Now I know. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!

I was thinking the same as the last shot that Fed’s down the line backhand is a stop and pop. Your application of stop and pop for on the rise balls is really a half volley. When I hit on the rise shots I tend to get over the top of short hops and take a full swing at it. The ball has good pace and topspin that dips into the court and pressures my opponent. It doesn’t look like the stop and is that effective for the on rise balls since these balls may not be hit hard but are very deep. My general opinion of stop and pop is that I would not use it as a general technique since my baseline ground strokes are solid and have a lot pace already. But I agree that for volleys and return of serves, when you need fast reaction time, stop and pop is the way to go.

His stop and pop video is excellent for timing and wrist being stable but yet relaxed. It’s been working for me that’s for sure!!

Another good one Steven. I have always used this on occasion, but it was always reactionary (and the results were good) I’m going to start using this more intentionally. It can really be a weapon.

Interesting as always from Steven. So we have a new name now for short follow through? Pretty much what you’re supposed to do on volleys, half volleys. But I also see the point in using this technique on some groundstrokes, return of serve where you want to be more precise in getting the ball in and hitting your target more safely.

Nice analysis. You definitely first need great hands and timing to perform a stop and pop.

I have a question. In this video, What does The word 'Deflection' means? a change of direction in dictionary. Could someone tell me?

Tiger Woods does it if he wants to attack the ball and aim for the "green" and not the fairway. He hits those shots from the fairway onto the green.

Does stop'n pop apply to topspin? If not, what changes?
@15PointsOfTennis
@15PointsOfTennis 3 жыл бұрын
Stop and pop is mostly to train contact point and focusing energy. Once you get that down pat just swing through, which hitting topspin requires because more racquet speed is needed. stop and pop limits racquet speed so you’ll need a bit more follow through

Stop and poppin on the service return is pointless for rec players b/c nobody hits 120+mph serves..

It's NOT stop and pop: what you do is slow down the arm swing and (continue racket face speed by) accelerate your wrist acceleration to maintain racket face speed and at the same time improve your contact point. The guy who is doing this the best is Federer. Please, please watch a slomo video of his forehand and then you understand what I'm trying to explain to you. STOP AND POP IS A MISNOMER for this techniques. Capisce? Thanks, Tsyt VN-MAC-A

Yeah this is a video that wont help about 95% of players unfortunately, It's either too advanced(for the beginner) and too simple(for the advanced) This is a result of the arms being loose you have to own a particular swing in order to make this happen effortlessly.....which most people are going to struggle with mightily...most people don't have their contact point out far enough to be successful with this method.
