Wonderful in every way. When I was 4, my father gave me a bamboo flat bow he'd brought back from a trip to Japan, that was fifty years ago. I still have that bow, my children played with it and became archers also.

I didnt know they used wedges to make a bend in a bow , I thought everywhere the bow was made the same , only small variations depending on how the bow looks.

Hilarious video... Legendary Japanese bows were all simple self bows/ stick bows made form a solid piece of cherry birch, elm, yew, or bamboo... straight with no recurves. The asymmetrical shape came about because bows were made from straight saplings, and the wood towards the base of the tree is stiffer than the wood towards the top of the tree... the asymmetrical shape allowed for an even draw... and it a allowed for an 8.8 foot/2.7 meter bow to be more conveniently wielded. The asymmetrical shape far predates the use of the horse. The Bushi were infantry archers far more often than they were mounted archers. In other words, REAL Japanese bows were not much different from an English war bow. And sorry, but these skinny armed girls and old men... are using toy bows with maybe a 15 pound draw weight... It is a joke. REAL Japanese war bows, had a draw weight on average of 120 pounds, with many Japanese war bows matching the 180 pound draw weight of the English longbow. No underfed waif, or decrepit old geezer is going to pull that with their shamefully skinny arms. And real Japanese war bows could shoot a heavy armor piercing arrow over 150 meters without arcing the shot. The Bushi developed arrow proof, strong lamellar armor for a reason... (overlapped to double the strength, no less) So, yeah... the bows in this video are not real bows, they are MODERN kyudo hobby bows for wealthy dilettantes with noodle arms and no grip strength. They are counterfeit. They visually resemble the real thing, but they are not. Just like all those expensive , flimsy, lightweight katana used by dilettantes, as compared to a REAL Nihon-To... thick, robust, and durable, and so heavy that a MAN... MUST... use both hands to wield it. The average Joe can make a better bow(and sword) in his garage with stuff from the hardware store... and at less than half the price. These fraud bowmakers are banking on people's ignorance... quite literally... they make good money peddling their expensive toy bows.
