Italy’s white truffle is one of the most elusive, most delicious and most expensive of all truffles. It can be found only from September to December and in just the right conditions, growing on the roots of trees under layers of damp leaves and dirt. Travel writer Laura Begley Bloom, with the help of Luca Savini (and his dogs), ranges over the Italian countryside hunting these truffles - hoping to taste one plucked right from the earth.
