XD thank you! I'm improvising behind the first 3 minutes before it goes into a song from the youtube studio, but that's the longest clip on me playing I've put into a video and it's fun to think that I can try more things along those line in the future

OMG I've been so up and down this past year because of this. Making art comes easy to me, trying to figure out how to make that a sustainable practice on all levels (creative, financial, etc) is a whole other learning curve 😩 Good luck to everyone on their journey!

having to apply to colleges/figure out what to do next rn, I've had to decide whether i want to be a full time artist. as much as I love art, and sharing my art, I'm afraid that having to cater my art to others expectations will make me hate it. i have plenty of other interests and would rather pursue those for a career. keeping art as a hobby sounds perfect for me. and if i end up teaching, which is what I'm leaning to, I'll definitely be making my own classroom decorations! oh, and what a lovely painting, robin!

That's great :) I think recognizing those things when making a big decision like that is really important. I started teaching but left it to do art full time and still consider going back to school for a masters and teaching again. I think with careers it's goos to consider the problems you want as well as considering the benefits of it. Creativity is definitely something that can come along with you into many life paths.

It was very interesting to hear those thoughts at my current state in my creative journey. Coming out of a mental health break I purposefully banned thoughts about creating sellable or even any kind of artwork fo other people with the intent of finding a stable stance on my own creative process again before letting others in, too. I think it will be interesting to come back to this video in a while, when I feel able to slowly introduce other people back into my work. For now it made me more sure in my decision to keep my process as close as possible to just creating for myself but being open to the thought of it being a step in my journey that I intend on changing again when I feel ready to. This won’t be the last time I watch this video, that’s for sure.

That's some stellar insight, kiddo. I think because I am imbalanced in the maintenance aspect, there are blunt edges around sustainable expression and community. Thanks for bump back on a healthy creative track.

I'm so glad I've found this video! I've been struggling with the ups and downs lately of being an artist. Self care is something I sometimes ignore, especially when I need it the most. I feel like I'm on this hamster wheel. When I feel myself slowing down (a good indicator of needing a break), I push myself even harder. It's definitely not healthy and causes burnout. Finding this video has really helped me see that yes, being an artist is very rewarding, but it's okay and completely normal to have bad times and to struggle a little. But just make sure I'm taking care of myself in those times. Thank you SO MUCH for making this video, Robin! I'll refer back to it when I feel like I need a good pep talk 😄

What you said about accepting our own words us so valuable to me. Being more of a performance and installation artist, I've found it hard fighting my lack mentality that only paintings or prints can be a source of financial abundance as an artist. You made me think about ways my work can be and is already a service, that I can monetise at high value. You opened me up to reflecting on how my works can be a source of my financial abundance. Thank you!!!💖

I love the perspective of your talk! I find myself creating out of joy. For me it’s a practice of empathy, discovering what is good or what ppl like if that makes sense, working without assumptions. I find people love authenticity all around. So, my work is free expression, however it comes out. I’ve done series of the same subject but i practice doing it in different ways every time. Maybe that has to do with finding alternative ways to coming to the same conclusion. Or a similar conclusion. When I produce for joy the soul can get squeezed out a little bit.

You are truly inspirational and such a wonderful person to bring these thoughts to the forefront in a KZbin video! I always feel like I want to start a conversation with you about your video topics! I would like you to do another video about the painting in this video and the story of the commission and painting the picture! I started college in the bookkeeper or accounting track, I took a drawing class because it would be an easy humanities credit. I had been painting since I was 10 since my gran started me with a set of Grumbacher watercolor paints from her professional artist grade paints. My path was so different from most I see today. You are truly wonderful to give of yourself and encourage and teach and just in being yourself an Artist in every sense of the word. I am hopeful that your book will be another successful venue for you and your Art journey. Be well and enjoy.

Beautiful! I'm re-starting my art career with a few collections that discuss and help me work on and release some things in my past, so that's letting people in and I've been avoiding it like the plague. I've had several preparation periods, a few starts, and one nearly finished piece. Hopefully, today's the day I finally break through. Thanks for all you do, Robin.

This is the fundamentals that need to be discussed so people dont burn or burn out or a a andon a life in art because the boundaries are ot defined or defined as only one thing and that there will be awful days that test ones confidence and belief but that is also part of an artistic life. It's just that it isnt a topic raised very often. It is a relief to hear it spoken about and to k owing resonates with every artist ever

@RobinSealark3 жыл бұрын
oh good! Yes that's why I got started on doing it personally and really like the method now. I love acrylic a lot on it's own too, but oils are special and the medium I like using when I'm trying to make highly rendered images.

I'm always great at creating lots of new ideas/pieces of artwork, but when it comes to finishing most they are left unfinished to start something new which creates a time vortex loophole that repeats itself ever after. I think personal work and what I should be creating to sell are getting mixed up in my head and reducing my efforts somewhat. I can't be the only Artist that does this I'm sure.....

I have been painting since I was 8 and now I am 58 not an artist full time yet, I set aside time each day and I try new things like digital art. It is all difficult when you have other roles in life. grad student, mom, grandma full-time work, I use my painting artistic side to get rid of the stress and do some sort of art marketing a little every day even if it is just filling an order. I hope to go full-time when I retire in 16 years and work for myself. If I do not paint I get very depressed and I have days where I do not do anything but paint even if only twice a month. You have to focus on what you want sometimes like lately I find myself painting a lot of skulls and things about death because of losing a co-worker to it. I know by now it is a phase I am going through but would go crazy if I did not create for myself also
