LooooooL The Albanians were the only Balkan people who knew very well who they were and who were their ancestors. The greek muslim became immediately a turk, the same happened to the Bulgarians,to the Serbs and to other religion based people but that never happened to the Albanian people who know very well who they were. Even today is the same thing. You are Albanian only if you belong to a certain tribe, only if you speak Albanian as a mother tongue, only if you have Albanian Blood. On the other side , you can be "ancient greek" in few seconds if you accept the orthodox greek religion and if you adopt a greek "christian" name (in fact a Jewish one). That is how your nation is build. A conglomerate of Albanian/Vlach/Slavic and Orthodox Turkish people! As for the rubbish written by that historian, I can tell you that I've met a lot of Arberesh people, that speak a TOSK dialect highly influenced by Italian and I , as a Geg Albanian have been able to understand and to speak with them Just like with a normal Albanian ( Geg/Tosk ) from modern Albania!

Even the Italian language has not any real impact on Albanian language, at least not until 30+ years ago. The only language that has a great influence over Albanian language is the Latin language, more than half of our vocabulary is Latin origin based. The structure and the morfology thank God have been not influenced by Latin and are PURE ILLYRIAN/ALBANIAN! The second other language ( much less than Latin) that has influenced the Albanian language is the Turkish language. Most of the Turkish words have been replaced but we can not deny its influence over all the Balkan languages. Greek language has +12.000 Turkish origin words. Albanian has +9000 , same goes for the serbian language.
