Yesterday, Robert W. Smith ascended into heaven due to complications from cardiac surgery. He was a talented composer and will be greatly missed in the music world.

I still find it very hard to believe. Robert W. Smith will forever be, in my eyes, one of the most influential musicians of our time. May he rest easy. I'm very lucky that I was able to learn how to conduct this entire symphony, and I really do wish he could've seen it. But he knew he made an impact on so many young musicians out there, many of whom grew up to be professionals themselves. 😔

It is a great pleasure for me to be able to perform this piece. I am very sad to hear that Robert has already passed away. I pray for his soul rest in peace. I will play this song next time. We will be raising the time schedule for a while. I will turn it off when I am done.

My high school marching band did this show my senior year in 2001. I still get goosebumps listening to this 23 years later.

Honestly, yeah, cause if you listen to it and keep in mind what it's all about, it's the ascension part of the Divine Comedy, which was created to show what would happen to your soul had you not obeyed gods laws, and ascension is meant to be the beautiful part, rising up into the heavens, ascending to something that is greater than our own plane of existence.

I'm in 7th grade and I am playing the Divine Comedy with the 8th graders on Baritone. After listening to this piece i am utterly destroyed inside but we are making progress somehow The rhythms are not hard but the tempo and circular breathing makes this piece suck to play. Still, i am excited to play this and i hope i do well. ALso I want to commemerate Robert W Smith for shaping the rise in band compositions.
