If anyone here is interested in running a game with the Ashirra and wants to find out more about different branches of Islam and Islamic philosophy 'Let's Talk Religion' is a great channel that gives a decent introduction to a lot of complex topics.

I remember reading the Dark Ages book that talks aboit Ashirra, and learning (by experiencing it) why representation should be done right or never at all if its wrong, by how much it enraged me. Imagine someone was relating a story of Jesus to a writer, to which the writer says "Thats not metal or supernatural enough. Give the guy a flaming sword." Thats how the ashirra was written to me.

Ashirra the name's origins likely comes from the early Islamic sects of Mau'tazila and Ash'ariyya named after the founder of their school al-Ash'ari.

I like that reasoning for the etymology. I was of the opinion that it was derived from the word عشيرة, given that it literally sounds the same and the meaning of the word (clan). I also suspect given how the Ashirra were written in Dark Ages, the "white boys" (term i use with my friends for American/europeans who nitpick people's identities with no grace or respect) didnt care enough to research that deeply for eefectively. Your analysis, I think, is too smart to be the reason.

I should have checked in here earlier to see if you had anything on the Ashirra. And this has added a lot of nice little lore details. But they do read like they were errr written by people who never lived in a Muslim majority country. I'm really happy with the way I've set the sect up for my game, but I think I'll add some of the lore details from here where they fit. The story about the Malkavians in particular is nice.

Ooo... I do plan on ending my Story in Jerusalem, so having V5 material for the region/the Ashira would be helpful.

You're getting so so good at this!

One take I never understood in V5 is the Ashira allying with the Camarilla. For many reasons, I will explain but tldr Sabbat has the morally best vampires and the worst. Firstly, most of the Humane and honorable clans and fraternities have membership in the Sabbat. All Paths incompatible with the path of humanity joined the Sabbat, Paths of Heaven and good Paths too. Brujah, and Banu Haqim two founders of the Sabbat are Humane. The Salubri are largely good, Lasombra have the most actual Christians too. Not to mention the Sabbat is the only Sect who takes hunting Infernalists and hellspawn seriously. Hence all religion is safer in the Sabbat. Secondly, as a muslim, it makes no sense. The Cam are atheist with no morality beyond survival. As in the middle east irl, if given the choice between no morality but national law, or extremism but God, muslims will split with most being neutral but wanting God to be national law.

I can't explain any necessity in lore that would make the Ashirra join the Cam over the Sabbat. Except that the non-believing Ashirra and Muslim Ashirra split with Muslims joining Sabbat, or that the Ashirra are playing both sides and are working with the Sabbat

Mages claim the keening is caused by the combined force of mages who imprisoned the souls and avatars of the nephandi infernalist devil kings to be tortured for all eternity, imprisoned withing the black stone at Mecca. Strengthened by teh web of faith.

@@LoreByNightVtM weird, oh well it just sounds slightly different not bad so it's a "non-problem" at least, the best type of problem to have.
