Thanks for watching and commenting David. Your work is still appreciated by many. Could you speak to Noel at Talking Pictures TV and do a new Whistle Test / Tube type thing for lovers of real music? 🎸🥁😎

Thanks David - these performances are a bit of a holy grail for Billy Mc fans. For all the crazy pop wizardry of the Associates, he really shone when singing torch songs/ballads like these. Nice that you remember him as a lovely guy (as well as maybe Britain's greatest singer!)

I saw Billy twice in the 1980s. The first time was at a poorly attended gig in the now-defunct Marquee, 1980. The Associates had just released "The Affectionate Punch". They were great. Success beckoned with the glorious "Sulk". I saw him perform again in 1985 at St. Martin's On The Fields. He was still very good, although Alan Rankin had left. The following years were a case of diminishing returns. His tragic suicide was utterly heartbreaking. Only Jeff Buckley matched him vocally, and Jeff didn't last too long either. Remember him this way, with that lovely smile.

to be honest, I think Billy's voice is more seamless than Jeffs

I was at the St Martin's concert -- 'Perhaps' tour! Brilliant gig, but hardly anyone there. We were in one of the balconies, and the place was half empty. But Billy was stellar as always! :0)

Barring a couple of obvious hits (‘Party Fears Two’, ‘Club Country’ etc.) the thing that held the Associates back commercially was that almost all of their work is a slow burner. So often I’ve heard a song of theirs on first listen that seems not at all catchy and even totally disjointed but on repeat hearings it becomes better than almost anything else that was around at the time (and now, of course). Alas that doesn’t make for a successful pop act, which in a fair world, they should have been.

Billy was such a brilliant talent, and a beautiful, lovely man. Forever in so many of our hearts.
Breakfast is so hauntingly beautiful. I loved The Associates. In a world full of Ed Shearans, be a Billy. He’s so missed.

Not a day goes by without listening to a Billy / Associates track. He - They are an obsession. I looooooove these live tracks. Breakfast is UP there with my top favourite songs EVER and this is a stripped down sublime version. Skipping - Perhaps - Fire to Ice - Outernational...all of his catalogue. My final song as I make my merry way will be Nocturne VII.
