Ryan something and hell bringer, every single episode. Thank you. I thought I was the only one saying that. He does so much damage. But now Russell has gotten on my radar. Between his total lack of being able to figure out obvious trolls, his terrible scenario/examples to get people to understand, he loves explaining things in too much detail when caller's can't understand the basics. Then not calling people on how wrong they are on calls that do understand. He was better in the early years. Now he is overboard on politeness and not making caller's own up to anything

I live in a bunch of mountains. My stepfather is a pentecostal preacher. A friend of his, Wayne, is a geologist with a young earth creationist bent. When we were kids, Wayne would take us into the mountains, crack open rocks, show us the fossils. We were at the top of one of the taller mountains around here and he said that about sedimentary rock. I asked him a question he couldn't answer. I asked "how did the sediment get to the top of the mountains?"
@davidsmith76532 ай бұрын
Easy. The mountains weren't always there and once that land was at the bottom of a sea. Then tectonic plate activity pushed up the land and the bottom of the sea became the top of a mountain, complete with fossils.

SIMKINETICS Hi this is the Kevin in this episode of atheist experience. You know I’m just not getting it. Take my meds? Check mark for precision accuracy on those details. And the whole world can see it. Well accept for blind by choice, willingly ignorant people like yourself. The other thing that I guess I didn't think about was all the family members of the accused witches (victims) that had to cope with the loss of a family member. Cheers!

If you want to see the "breaks in the ocean," you can look at GI Science's layers. There are effective representation of the sea floor and of tectonic plates. I'd like to say that the reason that we don't include all the information we know on maps is that we have a lot of information. A map is a re-presentation; map's authors have an agenda, to show information quickly and succinctly. If one were to create a map with all the information we know on it, all the working models, and all of physics in play, it would not be useful.

In Hungary we had the last witch burning in my home town in the 18th century. Actually, the bible quote was a miss-translation initiated by King James I. He wanted Biblical support for the witch hunts, so the original "poisoner" was translated to "witch". In the Hungarian version we have the equivalent of "poisoner".

The Glen Rose footprints were debunked just shortly after the owner of the property admitted carving them to sell as souvineirs. The remainders only look like footprints if you squint and ignore the fact that they are all the wrong size, and most have the wrong numbers of toes. I remember seeing them nearly 40 years ago, they didn't look like human footprints then (even though they were proclaimed as such) and they don't look any more like them now.

Well thank you Pat for pointing this out. what I was trying to point out on the show was that the Bible was dead on accurate when it says in Amos 9:15 ....."and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God." There have been many wars since then caused by ganging up nations that swear to the destruction of Israel, but they just can't seem to get the job done. This book has the power of telling the future. A power that man kind does not.....

Thanks. I don't think they do recognize their own hypocrisy most of the time. When they do, they justify it by seeing themselves as soldiers for Christ. They see a lie in the name of Jesus as righteous. Reasoning is secondary to their goals. They fit the evidence to their conclusion, the opposite of rational thinking.

Russell from the Atheist Experience made a great point on the podcast. He said American Christians aren't skilled at defending their religion because they're in the majority; they aren't challenged in the beliefs as often as someone who belongs to a minority religion. Being in the majority makes them complacent, smug, and overly defensive when they are challenged. They feel indignation that someone would dare question their beliefs. Yes, attempts to pierce their bubble are often a waste of time.

It's like the "war on Christmas" many Christians claim exists. It's not really about their Christianity being silenced, because it's never silence, it's about other religions --or non religions--having an equal voice. That's the part they don't like --competition.
@Estragon1712 жыл бұрын
The view that sedimentary rock formations in any way prove a global flood ignores so many basic concepts of physics and geology that even a school child should know that its nearly impossible to actually refute due to the glut of information that must be expressed and explained. A basic course in actual earth sciences would be needed to clear this up for someone like this.

I celebrate Christmas in the same way, without any religious content. A lighted tree isn't a Christian symbol anyway, it's pagan in origin, as is celebrating the winter solstice. The only ones trying to change "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays" are businesses that want to cater to a wider clientele during the holidays. It's no coincidence that this issue came to light during a decline in the economy, when Christmas sales were down.

Definition of "theory" from the internet: A supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, esp. one based on general principles independent of the thing to be. I like the part that says "based on general principles INDEPENDANT of the thing to be." That means the facts may not match the presupposed principles. And since there are so many out of place human artifacts found in alleged "prehistoric" rock layers that do not fit with these concocted principles than the theory.....

This is something that has annoyed me: "Begging the question" is a logical fallacy that raises a question that assumes premises that are false, not agreed upon or not proven. I can be a form of well-poisoning rhetoric and we're all familiar with this kind of corrupt reasoning when speaking to theists. It DOES NOT mean an "elephant in the room" question that must be asked in light of obvious evidence.
