I lived in the Atlanta area for 22 years. It is hard to explain to people who live in areas that get snow on a regular basis, the problems places like Atlanta have when snow/ice occur. By the way, I don't care where you live, no one can drive on ice. I felt for you guys. Your explanation was on point. Sorry for your family loss.

Here in Columbus, Ohio, the salt trucks are usually on the road prior to rush hour (typically in the morning around 3-4am). This occurs even if there is less than 3 in. of snow; we constantly salt the major highways and slowly work around to neighborhoods. Also, while accidents occur, they're usually fender benders with no more than 3 cars involved. In fact, about a month ago on the radio, we were told that if we were involved in a fender bender and no injuries occurred we were to exchange info--police would not be dispatched for non-injury accidents. This is typical for us. Also, Columbus City Schools is the largest school district in OH and Ohio State Uni. is the largest college. Typically if these two close, nearly everything is shut down since both employ (and teach) large populations. In fact, we've had 3 snow days at university. And, we don't let everything out all at once. We usually "stack" times for schools and work with elementary/middle schools getting out earlier than high schools/colleges, that way buses can be available and traffic won't be heavily jammed. Here, 2-3 inches does not halt anything; that's normal here.

In New Orleans, we did not take any chances. We did not even get snow and they shut everything down. "Don't come to work stay your asses home!" We barely got sleet. People say we over exaggerated. I couldnt imagine what that experience was like. I was getting a little frustrated with the jokes and comments on social media and had to log off. Ppl laughed at us BUT it only takes a couple of bad accidents to cause problems..plus most ppl in the south can't drive in snow. 2 inches of snow had everybody sick. I understand you completely, can you imagine if you didn't have gas? I felt worst for your kids...that's scary. My condolences for your family...I know he had a great homecoming. Blessings

Roxs, I hear you! Your explanation of the event cleared things up ( must admit I was one of those people asking "don't they know how to drive in snow")Up here in the mid-west we deal with much worst. It sad that the government officials were not prepared and the way you described the 285 is crazy, it sounds like a death trap, they need redesign or do something to fix the freeway system down there. Glad you and the fam are safe.

Being from Alaska, and definitely understanding about the snow and ice, I am a *firm* believer in states not used to such weather *shutting down*…especially if they can't properly prepare due to not possessing the proper equipment, etc. Better safe than sorry… I love in VA now and if I see anymore than 40% chance of snow-- my hind parts will be in the house!! Plus- I'm not trying to be out on the roads with folks who aren't used to driving on ice and such… Glad you made it through with your sanity in tact!! And sorry about your loss…

Hey Ms. Rox....here in NY we prep for snow by Salting ahead, it helps with melting the ice/snow as it hits the ground. Honestly not much you can do to really prepare because anything can happen. We have had a lot of snowfalls for the last month and we expect 2 more in the next week and we still have not gotten it together.
@PaperMario6411 жыл бұрын
The same thing happened in Maryland a few years ago. The problem is, folks were on the road before the salt trucks had a chance to put down salt, so they were stuck for hours until they could slowly clear the vehicles and get the salt down. But there were folks stuck for like 10-12 hours. And we are used to snow and ice. It boils down to the trucks getting the salt down prior to the storm, like the night before. But in our case, the storm hit mid day when they called for it to come later that night. Thankfully, I stayed home that day! Lol.

No shade, but every time I saw Kasim Reed talking about not being prepared for the storm, I mentally kept seeing the clip from BFV where Towanda called him and got him to unblock the street for her party. I thought jeesh if he can unblock streets for parties why couldn't he have found a way to clear the Atlanta streets just as quickly so people could get home faster. And yes I do know it wasn't that simple of a thing however, I just knew somewhere some ATL BFV fan was having the same fleeting thought as they sat in their car for several hours.

SO GLAD YOU DID THIS VIDEO. I saw a lot of post and videos that were plan stupid and uninformed. It took the angels to close my mouth and not respond. It would not have been as calm as you were. I believe that in my state the weather reports were not accurate and that was a big part of the problem because the salt trucks would have been out had they said snow and ice. Our forecast said 20% chance of snow. Again, thanks for addressing this in a calm manner :)

I'm so glad someone who actually lives in the south made a video about this snow issue. I understand completely about getting pissed about comments people made concerning it. I had to unsubscribe to a channel bc I got so pissed. If u don't live n Georgia or Alabama ( like I do) u have no idea what it was like. I work n my local ER and had to take care of people who were n wrecks resulting from the ice. There is no one that can belittle our experience bc they didn't live it. There r people that lost their lives. I know, I saw it first hand. So everyone that thought it was funny I'd like them to tell the families of the people who were hurt or died it was JUST 2 inches of snow.I'm sure they would disagree. Thank u so much for telling everyone esp here on KZbin it was no laughing matter. I appreciate this video more than u know

I've experienced both sides of this coin. I was a New Yorker, accustomed to having a set of tire chains in the trunk and buying snow tires. I got to N.C. and became accustomed to buying a buttload of bread, eggs, milk, candles, charcoal & lighter fluid if it called for snow or sleet & freezing rain. I'm thankful you, your friend and all your children are safe. That's a harrowing experience. One year, folks were in traffic so long long they were running out of gas on the highway, which compounded the situation. It had to be scary for children to stay at school without being able to be in contact with their parents and vice versa. you stop worrying about weather and start worrying about child molesters.

As far as the winter storm, I live in Birmingham, Al and our weather reports kept on saying it would late Tuesday night into early wendsday morning & we "might" get an inch but most was supposed to go further south just as freezing rain. So just like atlanta, Tuesday morning it was business as usual until they realized how bad it was going to get ...We just were not expecting it and were unprepared. I am so sick of everyone judging us for unforseen incidents. Hind sight is 20/20...smh And yes we aren't used to snow & ice just like the North can't handle hurricanes, I'm originally from the Gulf area and have had friends from the North get scared of a tropical storm much less an actual hurricane
@Kasey_88811 жыл бұрын
Girl! I was straight cursing folk out about making light of what was going on! I live in Michigan and learned how to drive in the winter and truth be told, NO ONE can drive on ice / black ice! Plus Atlanta has a lot of hilly parts which most of the midwest and up north dont have! A friend of mine was filming video of the snow and of cars sliding out down her block, she turns her camera around and her car started sliding down her driveway! Hell we have spin outs and accidents GALORE up north mainly caused by people who think "I was born here I can out drive every body" or the mother fuckers with 4x4 who DON'T know how to use it!

I completely understand what you are talking about. We were there in 2011 & there was a ice everywhere & the city was shut down. They were not ready then. I was so surprised this happened. But when the Gov said that the weather system was down & that is why he was not ready. I said WTF!!! My friends from NY they did not wait until 1-2p to leave work. Honey, they left work @ 11a when they heard it was going to start snowing @ noon. They said they were home watching it unfold on TV. My daughter's best friend attend Marietta HS & her mother kept her home when she knew it was coming on Sunday night. I was so mad because I knew some of the students in the HS overnight & I called their parents & I was so worried. It really shouldn't have happened. The Gov & all school superintendents dropped the ball. The comments regarding can't they drive in the snow is coming from ppl living in cold weather states. But I understand why it happened. They should have put the salt & sand the night before when they knew it was coming. It was not funny @ all! I am deeply sorry that happened to the children. But when Mayor Reed said it only took him 20 mins to the CNN station for his interview when ppl where on the hwy for 5 - 20 hrs.

I posted this in response to a couple of people who live up North that pretty much thought we were taking the situation lightly and failed to prepare or either making disparaging comments about us not using our "common sense": I live in MS and we tend to get some snow every 2nd or 3rd year. They always categorize it as "flurries", yet this past snow "storm" we got more than just "flurries". Just like when we hear a thunderstorm is happening, we don't get easily shaken b/c we damn near have a tropical storm every time it rains. The same with a heat wave. In our minds, we are like, "WTF is a heat wave? We are always topping off summer days with 110 real feel temps!" Minneapolis set a record temperature during last year's heatwave across the Midwest with 97 degrees and children were released from school b/c the school's air conditioning system wasn't up to par to handle the heat. Us southerners can EASILY say, "That ain't shit! I wish we had a high of only 97! The folks up North don't know shit about heat. 93 degrees? We at 103 degrees and we still have to go to school and work! Hell, some folks even have to walk! Yall betta freeze some damn water bottles before you go to bed. Make sure you wrap it in aluminum foil to preserve the temp. Don't forget your sweat rag either! If you need some shade, you betta take yo ass an umbrella!" My point: We know that different regions should expect different things. Up North, yall get hella snow. Down South, we have hella heat. 9 times outta 10, neither one of us are proficient in making sure we know how to properly react in uncommon situations. Can we just blame the shit on regional differences and ill-preparation based on regional "weather ignorances" and leave the "Oh, that ain't shit b/c we get this" or "yall should have known better" convo alone?

Rox, it breaks my heart to know that you, your children, and the citizens of Atlanta experienced that. We only had a couple of inches, which melted the next day (in the city), and the public schools were closed on Wed. AND Thurs. My daughter's school has an app that sent me an alert at 1:00 saying school would be out an hour early on Tuesday. I guess the superintendent here was not playing with it. (Here is N.C.) People in snowy states don't get that states that do not get snow do not waste money investing in millions of dollars of "snow machinery and supplies". That is why it only takes a little precipitation to shut us down. Shoot! We have a bazillion 13 year olds in NC now because in January of 2000, we were hit with over 20 inches and were shutdown for three weeks in some cities. Yes!!!! My little cousin who will be 14 in Sept was conceived during that time.

I'm glad that you and your family are safe. My sister was stuck in it for 24 hours. Hopefully if there is snow in the forecast again, they close the schools.

I'm glad you all are ok. I live in DC and I ran out of the building when we had our earthquake a couple of yrs ago. LOL. I thought the building was about to explode.

Girl in your defense, considering all the bombings and threats that goes on in DC, I might've ran my ass outside too. Lol.

I used to stay in Macon Ga ( a hour away from Atl) a year ago and I have family that live in Atl. The schools in Macon did half a day Monday and didn't go back until Thursday. I live in Montgomery Al now and the schools here shut down Tuesday and opened back up Thursday. My mom got to the point that when weather gets really bad she just pulled us from school until it gets better without things having to shut down. I been graduated from highschool a couple of years ago but she is definitely more strict about taking my siblings/letting them go to school because of situations like this. She always say "If you end up dead you won't make it there anyway so there is no need in putting yourself in danger". I hate that this happened to you guys in Atlanta and it was definitely NOT funny to make jokes about it. People can seriously get hurt and as many false alarms as Macon had when we stayed there I can see how the people in Atl didn't take it seriously. Heck one time it snowed a little in March when I was younger in Macon. It was weird because there stuff like this doesn't happen. Instead of being insensitive about it people should just respect that things aren't the same everywhere.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm from Cali and a lot of times I don't even feel the earthquakes that we have because I'm so use to them, but my boyfriend always feels them. Even the little ones. And I'm sure if someone from another state was out here, they would be trippin out. Same with the cold. I think the 40-50 degree weather we've been having is cold as hell. My boyfriend is from Philly and wears T-shirts like its nothing.

Okay, Rox. I chose to watch your full video before making a comment because it's so easy to judge from a level of comfort. As you know I am in Michigan, where "we invented the remix" on snow fall. We hit a record just last month. Here, we wait until it moves, then we move. No preemptive salt trucks here, baby. Now, I've been to Atlanta more times than I can count. I have family there but y'all can't drive when it's drive pavement, much less wet. Can't merge worth shit. Michiganders can be stupid, too. First snowflake the size of dandruff hit the ground and we got more accidents than in a demolition derby. It's a nightmare either which way. Regardless, I cannot begin to fathom your dreaded experience, much less the reports of others away from home, children and any level of comfort. My heart screams. And I am not so insensitive to critique ANYBODY who underwent what you did. I applaud your constant maturity and am glad you lived to tell it all. Peace & Light, Roxanne

I am from the Caribbean and I am used to hurricanes and some earthquakes...I have no idea what to do with ice and snow. I tried to take MARTA that day and the train was on fire so hundreds of people were stranded outside on the curb in that snow which was pouring down like rain. Thank God we made it through!

Kinda sounds like Chicago back in 2011 when we got about 20in of snow. Cars were stuck on Lake Shore Drive overnight. Shit was just bad. These major cities need to come up with better plans for bad weather.

THAT IS SOOOOO TRUE!!!! When we had that earthquake we didn't know WTF was going on lol I was picking my son up from school and school tiles started flying n shit the phones had stopped working my ass still went to the grocery store which was closed lol That's when I found out it was an earthquake. Now give me a snow storm hunnie and I can handle that... I grew up in Atlanta and I live in the DMV now, it's a different world. I laughed at my cousins for hours about the snow until I realized that people were really just helpless for hours. Thanks for posting your recollection, hearing a first hand traumatic experience is definitely an eye opener. Hopefully moving forward states account for all natural events because at this point anything can happen everywhere and we do need to be prepared. XOXO

Sorry for your loss Rox. I'm glad u r patient because they really have the nerve to talk about some "idc what you got going on in ya personal life I want a video" that's mad selfish to say something like that. But it's good to see you again in high spirits. I send my condolences and prayers to u and ur family. 😘

That sounds like a horrendous experience. I'm glad you're OK. Side note, when I was travelling to Edinburgh from Manchester over the weekend, I ignored everyone and spent the time watching your RHOA videos. I was thoroughly entertained. See, even in adversity....every cloud!? No? Too soon!?

You better break down the L.A freeway system. Yes we have a lot of freeways out here. If that 405 gets shut down, the 10, or the 110 at the same time. Girl crazy foolery. Could you imagine? The good thing is we can hit the surface streets and be alright. LaBre, Adams, Crenshaw, or La Cienaga would be my go to streets If that happened lol. I am happy you are safe.
@4itsrox11 жыл бұрын
Yeah...LA is good because it's on a grid system. You get off and drive North, you will always be going North. In Atlanta, you get off and drive North, you're liable to end up anywhere because no street stays straight. They curve and end and change into another street and before you know it you are going East. It's terrible.

My condolences to you and I live in NY and when we had that earthquake I definitely didn't know what to do or anybody else for that matter so you are right we're use the snow and ice even though my ass ain't coming out my house , they can't expect people that are not accustom to these conditions to know what to do, my friend move down and able to get home cause she's use to it but sorry you had to go through all that, glad you and your family are safe

First off, you are KILLING that lip color AND top. Second, luckily, I work at night so I got a heads up from my boyfriend who was stuck on the SAME road for 5 hrs. Needless to say, I called off from work.

I'm in NC & they had the trucks out spraying the roads a couple days before the snowstorm that we're dealing with now hit (I didn't even realize a storm was coming until I saw them on the roads) Anyway I think the South, in general, learned from Atlanta's goof up with the last snow

I'm a new subscriber and I love watching. Its like having a conversation with my bff. Kevin put me on to you. When I saw you on the same video with him, I started to tear. I know, corny, but it was the "that" time of the month when I was very emotional. LOL
