I love Rudy because, like you say, he couldn't sing, act, rap, etc. but he did all that anyway without any bullshit permission from anybody. He just did it. People today have more access to production resources than ever before and still keep themselves down.

God bless him for what he was able to do! Young'ins just done understand that in those days, Hollywood didn't make movies with blacks (Male or female) as the lead! Don't care how cheesy the movies looked, they were made with virtually no budget! So thank you Mr. Moore for your major contributions.

Mystery solved: According to IMDb, it would appear that Ms. Wright played the Cicely Tyson character ["Rebecca"] while Chase played the Janet MacLachlan character ["Camille"]. I think it was a simple case of the Professor mixing the two roles up.

What a great analysis. There’s an great difference to Dolemite and Tyler Perry movies. Tyler Perry isn’t funny at all. And he wants his terrible products to be taken seriously. Dolemite movies aren’t taken serious at all. These movies are jokes that everyone is in on.

I say thank you for all your work and effort to this podcast. realizing your self is to open your mind education is key. A fool is ignorant only because of the neglect of this. BUT ONE main thing, do some people not like the title or the fact that what they say rubs the state your mind the wrong way because maybe all blacks had at the time was ignorant state of mind that we did not know better because of all the limitations blacks had at the time. But they do kinda give him his credit. The door did have to open for black people and a bad taste of this culture in the few educated people drove or fueled or gave the i know i can attitude in black americans in everything. I know may kids have a i can know attitude because of one word Obama If we had that in the 60s when our fathers and mothers where fighting for this with there lives.

@reelblack6 жыл бұрын
Clearly RRM had talent, but there were folks far more talented that never had the impact. We love Dolemite. Charles looks at the series within the context of the Blaxploitation cycle. My POV is he's a live action cartoon. the premise is if you have the audacity of believing in yourself, you can not only win, but convince others put their weight on it.
@charlietaylor34256 жыл бұрын
Rudy Ray Moore's talent was getting the product in the can. He did the footwork. He did the grunt work. He was Fearless. He was adventurous. His works were pure entertainment like a rap records storyline multiple murders and excessive drug sales and use. It was raw probably because of the $$$ budget budget. He was successful. If not monetarily then in establishing a style or genre.
@charlietaylor34256 жыл бұрын
Also you should not RRM this man. It is RUDY RAY MOORE ! Show some respect to our ancestor.

+CDMPTV, MUSIC & FILM The Power's In The Knowledge I love Rudy Ray. In a perfect world, he would have had the same opportunity to make films as Three Stooges and Abbot and Costello
@CrayzonDeeyon8 жыл бұрын
The Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello were white minstrels in white face. Comparing Rudy Ray Moore to either one of those groups is an insult. Not only did he write, produce, star, and give up and coming actors like Ernie Hudson, etc., opportunity to act in films-- he used the Oscar Micheaux model of distribution of, first his records, and then his films. If it's one thing we must do, it is stop tearing down and discrediting our greats, especially when they did it so much greater than the stooges and AC. Under the circumstances he was in, and we're still in today, show me one of your films that has done as great, without the help of "white" distribution. It is obvious that someone hasn't watched the documentary that Xenon produced in the late 90's on Rudy's life. I meet Rudy. I owned a CD/DVD store, and sold tickets for one of his last concerts. I wish I had my cameras ready, because we chopped up game, and it's game that everyone needed to hear, from one who actually did it.
@reelblack8 жыл бұрын
+CDMPTV, MUSIC & FILM The Power's In The Knowledge I'm starting to feel you didn't watch the podcast. We touch on all your points of RRM behind a pioneer and an entrepreneur. I reference three stooges specifically because they were an act that everyone at Columbia hated except for the boss, Harry Cohn. He allowed them to make films for decades. Years later, the studio still makes money off their content. In a perfect world RRM should not have had to hustle, but his genius and audacity would have been rewarded. Both Charles and I had close encounters with Mr. Moore. I've seen him perform and met him at trade shows. Stop trying to instigate.
@reelblack8 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree at all. There are a lot of ways to look at Rudy Ray's body of work. The reason we called the podcast Audacity of Rudy Ray is because, in his unabashed blackness, he found a way to make work with very little compromise hat not only reflected black life, but reinforce our folk tradition of oral toasting. But keep it real, Rudy Ray is pure camp. I think we spent nearly an hour discussing him because most people wont. Sounds like you already are a fan and already knew about and purchased these on Vinegar Syndrome blu-ray. I hope they sell a bunch more, because there are plenty of classic Black films that deserve this type of deluxe treatment that labels like Criterion will never recognize. Always good to discuss. Thanks for watching. I hope u subbed so we can keep making more content.
@CrayzonDeeyon8 жыл бұрын
Now, that's what I like to hear-- Rudy Ray Moore is Champ of The Independent Film Business, who won with unabashed Blackness. Something, and Someone we need more of, in this climate, in America. It was great discussing with you, too! Happy New Year 2017. Keep bringing the podcasts, they are interesting, but this one-- I had to chime in. With debate, hopefully-- more people will purchase the complete Rudy Ray Moore Collection on Blu-Ray. Happy Kwanzaa!
