Nice. I thought it was cool when I was marvelling at the red straight above us to get photos in real time from Nelson showing that they could see it on the horizon.

That's awesome of you to share the location so others could find it! I remember many a night living in Queenstown trying to figure out where I should go to watch the aurora, but I thought that hill was a construction site at the time. Wish I was still there!

Looks awesome Tom, great footage. I'm gutted i missed the big one this year but hadn't realized there was just another a couple weeks ago! Where can you check to get notified when they are coming here in NZ please? Thanks I'm in the top of the south. Regards Tim.

Just search Aurora Forcast into the Playstore or Appstore on your phone. That will show up a bunch of apps for prediciting the aurora. Apparently we're in a high solar activity phase for the next year or two so there should be more chances to see it. Pretty cool seeing it in Nelson, it's rare that far north.

That was some awesome video. I also got some amazing photos on the 11th Oct here in Victoria. I had views to the SW around to the SE, it was awesome. I am thinking about putting then into a time laps. What size lens did you have?

Cheers, it was just a Sony e-mount 24mm f2.8. Would have liked something more wide angle but didn’t need the low f point because it was so bright in the 2 main shows. Will keep and eye out for your time lapses 🤙

@@TomWoodwardVideos I have an 18mm x 50mm @2.8 Sigma and the Aurora filled up the whole screen and then some. I have my eye on a 10-20 3.5 lens, I have been playing around with 3.5 on the 18mm and it appears to be okay at pics of the Aurora's, seeing that they are usually fairly bright, so I am thinking that the 10-20 may be okay. It's a work in progress like the time laps, I will have to do a lot more home work on how to put it together.

@@newbee1016 I’ve got a sigma 30mm f1.4. I brought it up and tried to use it for the Aurora but found it was too zoomed in. I only have a crop sensor on the Sony A6300 though so that makes it worse. About the time lapses a lot of the cameras come with built in software for it. I tend to just take lots of photos though and use a free app in the Mac App Store to put it together into a clip.

@@TomWoodwardVideos Yeah the Samsung S23 Ultra has hyperlapse built in so I am going to have a play with that one night before an Aurora is here to see how it works. There are videos on it so I will study them up.
