I used to be an electrician. We always crimped terminals on, no matter what size the cable. Soldering is not practical in just about any situation, apart from an electric guitar. So many loose ends tied up this time. Love how she started up and ran sweet.
@anthonygrodecki7968 Жыл бұрын
Have to agree but on one little exception I ride old British bikes and in many places I have done both due to vibration. So multi strand cable if crimped will lose contact in a short time but when soldered also it won’t snap for a long time but also it’s covered heat shrink tap very strong 15 years no issues.

Another good one, Bryan! Weekly "fix" of Oak Swamp content. Like all the attention to aesthetic details Reminds me of the V8 JAP Engined GN Cyclecar device created by Richard Scaldwell. Soldering from choice, where there's any vibration. Having said that, someone gave me a non-working DeWalt SDS drill. One of the brush holders had fractured off...8 years later its still holding up with ordinary electrical solder. Good on yer, Mate!

I like the look of the leather around the coil, wonder if you might run into heat issues and cook that coil. In my old series Rover the coil gets pretty hot and the bracket that holds the coil helps as a kind of heat sink.

Nice!!!! My thought on splices? I've never had a problem with an end I soldered on but had lots of problems with crimped on ends. If you get the really nice ends with the teeth inside the crimp and the glue heat shrink is the only way it would not get a dab of solder. Not saying anyone is wrong just sharing my experiences. Cheers!!!!

Thanks for another great video. I had never heard of a battery being flat. Is that common on your side of the pond? I usually crimp with the intention of soldering afterwards, but I get lazy and don't solder. Have you thought of using metal zip ties? They should start rusting and blend in.

@@oakswamp My own experience has been that I've never had a soldered joint fail but I've had several crimps come apart. The metal in the connectors isn't as good as it used to be and they get a little warm and loosen up sometimes. In fact, just the other day I discovered I didn't have power going to my diesel heater and it was crimp that pulled apart.

Soldering is not an issue with these cars. I've been building kits for nearly 25yrs and never had a solder joint fail yet.. Not one. I use crimps where I can simply because they're quicker, but there are places where solder is required.. As long as you leave plenty of slack in the wire, it's protected from heat and sharp edges and heat shrink etc.. It'll last as long as you. If it fails it'll be pilot error putting the solder on.
