Good video. I've been doing commerical A/V installation, design, and Crestron programming for 10 years and just about every time people ask me what I do and I tell them "commerical A/V integration" they either nod as if to say "oh that's nice, I don't know what it means, but it's nice" or they say "oh so you do like computer stuff?" to which I've found it easier to just say "yeah, computer stuff" rather than try to explain it. I'm going to have to start linking them to this video instead.

Yes, If you have the means to get your CTS you will be more appealing to hire than if you did not have it, in my opinion. Not because it's a magic certification but because it will show a willingness to learn and motivation to become educated about best practices. Good question. Typically companies will fund your CTS once you come on board. It might be a good thing to bring up in an interview as something you really want to do.

Next time I get out of the office I'll have to bring my camera along to show you the fun stuff. My current job is nice because I don't travel at all, but I tend to miss playing with all the toys and getting out on a job site.

Where I used to work (I have since retired - Praise the Lord), we had a company come in and install 4 large 'tv screens', they were composed of panels that snapped in place to make one large screen. The screens were maybe 10 or more feet diagonally. The installed speakers into the ceilings - 12 zones. They said they were always looking for technicians and would be willing to train people. They also said they could detect and replace 1 individual pixel. I thought that was rather amazing. They had a separate room designated to the controllers that ran everything. They had a few like 6 feet tall computer racks set up to run everything. To me it was rather impressive. And the manager, said that was not even the top of the line, that they could install, but the budget they were allocated would not allow a more expensive set up. We joked our future raises went to pay for it all.

The system you are describing sounds like a control center with a video wall. Perhaps a SOC or NOC type of setup for viewing large amounts of detailed video data simultaneously. Very cool systems to design, install, oprate and service. "Command and Control" is its own niche within commercial AV.

Great video! I work in the hotel AV sector. What do you feel like is a good, budget friendly, way to video conference that is better quality than skype? Is something like a polycom real presence the only alternative? My client typically hate the pricing of such systems. Thanks in advance!

Hi Nate - is a CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification a good place to start when becoming qualified for AV integration positions? Infocomm seems to have a lot of information and certification courses available for entry level, design and installation of AV systems. What training and experience do you suggest when becoming certified and qualified for AV integration / installation positions? thanks!

What does Audio Visualization mean?

The abbreviation "AV" stands for "Audio & Video" sometimes called "Audiovisual". That which is refers to both audio and video technology. However it sounds like you may be referring to the act of visualizing audio which is something else entirely.

Sorry I found that so funny. Audio Visualisation could be that act of taking a recreational drug and beginning to "see" audio, which has nothing to do with the AV industry. BTW love the efficiently organised cable-rack wall back there.

I am AV Technician and I have just designed in my Hotel a closed system with Extron, that I control by APP or Web the ignition, shutdown, change of channels of the televisions, lower televisions hidden in the ceiling, from the same APP. The problem that I find first is the prices, they are almost prohibitive, on the other hand, I would like to integrate Extron with Siemens, since I have Siemens controllers with Reles, that I need them to turn on or off and this complicates me because the programmers put me a lot of problems for able to program these commands in Bagnet. Has anyone been able to integrate other brands with Extron? Which brands are integrable to add, Reles, IR, Digital I / O ... and much more.
