That bat speed is honestly insane. He can do a half swing, pull back and do another full swing in the amount of time it takes the ball to get from the pitcher to the plate.

I swear he's moving the bat after the ball leaves the pitcher's hand, you are right. That is insane.

I was at Fenway when he hit what an old Red Sox fan sitting behind me said was the farthest hit baseball on major league history. Ball was still on an upward trajectory as it cleared the green monster. Look up Gary Sheffield + Knuckleball = Moonshot here on youtube and just listen to the crack of the bat

definitely was onto something, that movement before the bat provides extra power and momentum. it's probably a less accurate swing (more strikeouts) but when you make contact the ball flies

I love around 2000 or 2001 when he opened his stance up I was probably 11 when I found him in 99 and I would record his games on my VHS and watch his hand positioning and everything in slow motion. Everyone always tries to imitate him but I would literally put money up against anyone that says I can do it better than them. Now as an adult that's kind of dorky as a kid it's just a kid being a kid with a favorite player haha but I've never seen someone really do a good job imitating him it's always exaggerated. I can do that shit perfectly I just can't hit like he can haha I would have loved to see that cast around when he played to just see how fast that that was going and how hard those balls were coming off the bat

I was at Fenway when Sheffield hit a knuckleball moonshot off Wakefield.. It sounded like a car crash and was still on an upward trajectory as it cleared the green monster and all it's signs. An old Red Sox fan who must've been a long time season ticket holder sitting behind me out in right field said out loud for everyone to hear "That right there was the farthest hit baseball in major league history.. and of course it had to be done by Gary frickin' Sheffield". Nobody refuted him... Well over 600 feet easily. Look up Gary Sheffield + Knuckleball = Moonshot and watch the fans on the monster turn around and watch it, as well as what the announcer says
