Since watching and absorbing this video, I use this sweep with near perfect consistency. The cross grip trick fools everyone into thinking they can post and stop the sweep. That little sweep of the arm whips them right over. Thank you so much for this video.

Over 7 months since we’ve been allowed to train here now in Victoria, and I’m revisiting these awesome fundamentals videos so I don’t forget literally everything. :( (Also - I accidentally put the subtitles on this video and they’re hilarious .)

I asked my professor about a no gi scissor and said to try this instead because of my body type. I’ll keep this variation in mind for my next gi class! Maybe I can even trick my purple belt buddy…. If I can get him into closed guard that is!

Reminds me of Tai Chi throw my Muay Instructor showed me - catch the kick, then grab ankle with both hands, pull his foot straight to the floor to your outside (guy is thinking ''thanks, that's exactly where I wanted my foot to go. Let me just start putting my weight on this foot..'', then you pull the foot to your inside right before it touches the floor. Sadly, it's a very gentle fall on his bum; which is good for sparring but not for fighting where you want him landing on his head with his feet in the air with a thud that takes the piss out of him.

what do you do when they are using both hands to try to push you back down? I know I can control the cross grip hand, but what if he uses his off hand to push me back down? thanks for another great video Coach
@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
If you circle your head away as you sit up you will find you can negate the effect of his other hand but otherwise attacking an armbar on the far arm into an omoplata on the cross grip arm is a fun path for you to explore ! Happy rolling (-: Coach Tom

Im finding it hard to sweep heavier guys especially when im low on energy and they hold their posture. Its like i cant move them with my hips sometimes. Does the strenght come all from the hips to sweep them? Thanks coach
@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
Yes Stuart hip power helps but this is a speed move not a strength one. The lighter you are, the more patient and better timed you must be. Keep at it! (-: Coach Tom
