My first lighter was a zippo and the hinges broke less than two years in. I switched to IMCO recently and have not looked back. I bought an orig IMCO and a chinese one. TBH the chinese just feel better made. Like you said the IMCO will fire everytime. I play with mine all the time like a fidget spinner opening and closing for fun. Another thing I love about the IMCO it will handle my smoking regime, I can go out at night with it and know I will not run out of fuel. IMCO needs to be upgraded to brass so you get that tactile feel you get with a zippo otherwise it is a robust lighter and dependable.

I love my Imco i’ve had it for years I wish a company would make lighters like these but with better materials like stainless steel titanium aluminum it would be sick

I do like zippo, but they won't last a single week for me, due to evaporation. I thus switched to a blue-flamed lighter and was pleasantly surprised: lasts for over a year, can be held head down and ignites even moist material... I just miss the ability to make sparks and to have a little light... PS: First! - why? I thought by now there should have been other comments as well.

IMCO - the unofficial lighter of Gulf War 1. Many guys that forgot their Zippos and did not want to buy a cheap undependable Chinese Bic Knockoffs bought these once they got in theater. They were around $2 or $3 at the time. IMCOs did not like the Zippo flints as much and preferred harder flints. We would break into the Bic Lighter knockoffs discarded and use their crappy flints. It is much more complex than a Zippo. It has an Art Deco design. They hold fuel 2 to 3 times as long. They can last for years and years without too much abuse. Not as long as a Zippo but for thin sheet metal not too bad.

I wish they made butane fuel inserts for the IMCO. I have a few different models of these, but I'm not a smoker, so I don't need a light on a daily or even weekly basis. Although I prefer the IMCO lighters for their vintage looks and better mechanisms, I never use them because they evaporate too fast. Instead, I have a Zippo with a butane fuel insert - it lasts for years.

can i use zippo flints and wick for imco?
@blackvolga74 жыл бұрын
Of course.

IMCO wicks are cotton, zippo wicks are asbestos. Cotton wicks will wick more types of fluids, and wick better. IMCO's work better with softer red flints like Ronson flints.

I agree with edi, blue flame has been the best I've found. As a heavy smoker, I test lighters to destruction.... Zippo have the hinge weakness along with evaporation...imco has a very weak hinge/rivet striker that breaks after 600 actuations or so. The Blue flame lasted for over 9000 actuations....10 months or so. It's hard not to like the old, strike anywhere matches, kept in a waterproof case. Even owning ferrocium rods and multiple lighters.... I like the basic back up of matches. PS Blue Flame, is or was a brand....recommended by Ray Mears...and sold by small companies in UK...not sure if they even exist any more.

Only imco 6700 can adjust flame size?
@TheModernSurvivalist5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the one with the wind shiled that moves up and down, Triplex Super. It allows you to adjust the size of the flame. To be honest, I've used these for deades, never bothered with it. In fact I find the Junior model to work just as well and a bit more compact although the Triplex (with the wind shield) is the better looking one in my opinion.

I know people don't wanna hear it 'cause they love their gear, but any smoker (who uses a lighter all day long) can tell you that the most reliable lighter is your standard Bic disposable. You can't refill it but it lasts for MONTHS, and by that I mean MANY months. If it gets wet, goes through the wash, whatever, it's easy to get going again. All these other lighters are cool and all, but they can fail you, and do fail a lot. The Bic does not fail until it is empty. So, my advice is two Bic lighters, one as a backup, and you're good to go for a year.
@TheModernSurvivalist5 жыл бұрын
To be fair, as long as it has fuel an Imco will not fail you either. Besides, this was about petrol lighters. Gas lighters are thier own thing but since you bring it up, the best one would be the Clipper. As cheap as the Bic but better and reusable. ;-)

I agree with you. Only a heavy smoker knows what lighters last over time....
