The Awful Categorisation of Disney Plus | Some Boi Online

Disney+ is a service that I’m a big fan of, with its affordable price and vast range of content. Recently, my attention has been drawn to what I dislike about the service - the presentation. Not the layout so to speak, I'm instead referring to the way the media is categorised, which can be downright confusing and inconsistent at times.

I agree, I get that they want to slowly add things to the service to keep people subscribed but yeah. Though they are dropping around 200 films at once - aimed at mature audiences with "Star" in February; along with The Muppet Show - which many thought would never be added, so you never know.

I don't know that the Muppets are large enough as a category to justify their own square. Now, if Disney bought Henson, that would maybe merit it. (Storyteller, Dark Crystal, Muppets, Fraggle Rock, Earth to Ned, etc.) I'd like it if Disney had the option to change from, say, 'Disney Juniour', which would have preschool content, 'Disney Basic', which is just + as it is, and 'Disney Night' or 'Touchstone', which would be adult and R-rated content. When in Touchstone or Basic, you wouldn't see content meant for babies, and in Touchstone you'd see more mature content in general.

I completely agree actually, but at the same time there is a massive amount of Muppets content excluded. I know "Earth to Ned" is actually on the service, which is strange, although Disney definitely don't own Sesame Street / Fraggle Rock etc. But unfortunately, with Henson's work being split several ways, the ownership of each property is unclear to the general public.

The Muppets are 100% big enough for their own category, but Disney just won’t add all the stuff they own because they just don’t care.

Disney doesn't even own all the Muppet movies, with the home media rights to The Muppets Take Manhattan, Muppets from Space and Kermit's Swamp Years currently in the hands of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie owned by NBCUniversal.

The Sony-owned Spider-Man movies are now on Disney+, as they worked out a deal. That could just as easily happen for their Muppet movies - but frankly I don't think Disney care enough to bother.

I have been watching all the hand-drawn Disney films for the past half years, which is not well-organised either. The Disney section has a timeline of all films in chronological order to a point, but certain titles are left out, and then randomly placed at the end, and this changes every so often. They also have a section for straight to video sequels, which is incomplete.

One of the worst things in my opinion is not having a single category for the classic shorts, They have a lot of old Mickey shorts but they aren’t under any category or series, you just gotta search through all the Mickey content and pick them from the countless other Mickey shows and movies

Yes I completely agree. A lot of the issues could be solved by knowledgeable people ordering the content in convenient and orderly ways. The fact that there isn't a section for the old shorts is plain daft.

In Turkey, we have The Muppets Collection but there isn't the original movies. There are four seasons of Muppet Show, the new movies and Muppet Babies. There is no the muppets. or Muppet Now! There isn't also The Muppet Movie, Christmas Carol or any other old movies.

My biggest pet peeve with Disney+ is that it does not use the feature of being able to pause the video with the space bar like not only KZbin but Netflix as well does and I’m pretty sure Hulu does have as well it’s like everybody else lets us use the space bar to pause video because it’s quick and easy why does Disney+ break the mold in this way that does not seem necessary

They also have tv episodes, mostly shows from the 90’s, that are out of order. The first canon episode isn’t first like it should.

I know there's some confusion with The Muppet Show, as it was broadcast in different orders depending on region - so I can understand why. Shame to hear its the same with some other shows though.

The thing with the Lion Guard movie isn’t unusual, even outside of Disney Plus. They did the same thing lumping the Spark of Rebellion TV movie in with the first season of Star Wars Rebels.

Yeah most of these TV movies work as pilots for the shows anyways. Lumping them I with the series makes more sense to me as it's more obvious what the viewing order should be

I also dislike the search function on the platform as it seems way too literal. If I search "horror" I only get films or shows with Horror in the title as apposed to any of the various horror or Halloween themed movies on the service. Especially now with Star actually having quite a few horror titles, it's just frustrating that you can't search with related words and instead need to know the title of the exact film or series you're looking for.

My main problem with the collection system is that it doesn’t work like a playlist if it automatically took us to the next movie in the collection after the one we were watching was done it would make it for a very relaxing and easy to binge experience but because you have to keep going back-and-forth between the movies you’re watching and the collections it’s easy to lose track of where you are if you’re doing it across several days especially if you’re including series in the mix At least in my experience

So for your point about the marvel cinematic universe, now in the marvel section there are parts that are mcu phase one, phase two, phase three, phase four, phase 5, the mcu in timeline order, the infinity saga and the multiverse saga, although they don’t have the mcu Spider-man movies.

Sometimes I think that the Disney company is so arrogant that they really don't care what anyone thinks. They'll just do whatever they want no matter what. Just like with Star Wars. I keep hearing fans say " Disney has admitted screwing up Star Wars". Not only will Disney ever admit they made mistakes but they'll double down on it and make it worse, if anything, just to show that they meant what they did. Good luck at convincing them of anything they need to do to make things better.

Something I wish they had STILL even after a year of you uploading is the ability to choose episodes of the shows in your "continue watching" tab without having to manually search for the show and then select the episode. So annoying. Also not a fan of how there is 30 seconds in between each episode you watch

Agreed, speaking of gaps between episodes, I know some show extra credits in different languages with no sound at all. This is a bit off-putting too and I wish they'd instead only show it when the appropriate language is selected.

Probably what u called the lion guards TV movie got lumped in with the series was that it wasn’t technically a TV movie it was the pilot for the show that was done in the length of a feature film some live action tv shows in America have done the same thing over the years cause it helps set up the cast of characters better when the pilot is longer then the episodes in the actual show so it would make sense to put it with the rest of the episodes of the show

They definately have some issues with navigating the service still. Some shows are near impossible to find or even know they have without keeping up with that kind of stuff on youtube or something. Disney is easily in my too 3 services, hbo and hulu are the top 2 easily. Paramount plus is stacking up to be great as well (minus kamp koral :( )

I don’t necessarily think that throwback and nostalgic are interchangeable words throwback could mean a video that you just saw commercial for when you were a kid but not necessarily ever got to see the full movie where is nostalgic movies are movies you would watch over and over and over again that’s just my take on it

Using 25 was never intentional, I've just sorted out what was causing it actually so it's 30 on the current video I'm working on.

@@SomeBoiOnline 60 is clearly better for faster moving footage like handcam or videogames, but 30 gives you better bitrate for slower stuff like podcasts or slideshows, 60 is also much better for using clips with mixed framerates, such as 24, 25, 30fps in the same vid, 24fps clips in a 30fps video looks like 15fps. so its really depends
