@bserpa2 but the German bombing campaign on Britain in 1940-41 was known as the Blitz whereas the German military tactic of quickly bombing, mobilising tanks and infantry to attack is called blitzkrieg. The British press named it the Blitz, so when you refer to that bombing of Britian it's known as the Blitz. When it began the terms may have been synonymous but over time Blitz began to mean blitzkrieg as applied to Britain (which was a 9 month long strategic and demoralising bombing of London, not much of a "lightning war" in retrospect). That's why I said it's not the exact same but close enough, the 2 words refer to different things. As you said the Blitz was named after Blitzkrieg, but they're not one and the same. One does remind you of the other though, since one's name is derived of the other

Did u guys know that the "collective memory" on certain events lasts around 80 years? After that period, most of the people directly involved have died and all that remains are storys, the real "memory" had basically died off. An affect of that is, that emotions, even if the events were horrible, vanish. U dont feel for the people that died, u lose touch with it. That results is a loss of empathy. u start to make fun of it and forget the lessons learned from these events. For example, noone would have made fun of Jews or their noses right after the war, because the people still felt bad for them, remembering the Holocaust. The last "stage" is around 120 years after these events, when it´s as much in the past as, for example, the Napoleonic wars are for us right now. The further u go back, the less empathy u feel and lessons learned are only written down in history books. It will be interesting to see how this will happen with WW2, because thats the big event we can "watch" becoming "a thing of the past".
