When I was in the U.S. Navy I spent a little time in the Azores. If there was any chance to go back I would jump at it. The Islands are beautiful too a level of being breathtaking. The food is wonderful and any chance you get for something homemade take it. But all that said what makes the Azores special is the people. I have never been made more welcome in all my travels. Show respect with the locals and you will be made to feel at home. This place and these people will enrich your life with peace and tranquility.

@@Erikthetravelguy because of my travels I have had many people ask me where would I live if I had the choice. Hands down without even giving it a second thought the Azores would be that choice. All you have to do is be polite and honest! Do that and with time you will be considered a local by the people that have lived there all their life. If any of you have a chance to go there please move that to the top of your wish list, you will not regret it.

The Azores Islands belong to Portugal, it's population is 280.000 citizens who are portugese, speak portugese. Islands comprise of 9 islands. 1,5 million Portugese descendant Americans live in the island Hawai. California is the other place where portugese have settled uptil now. Portgugese people only prefer to settle in and become citizens of green pastured , full of forests places on earth, otherwise portugese leave arid places to spain. Portugese citizens are comprised of morrocans who are catholics, armenians, jewish people coming from Turkey and Ottoman Empire. In Brazil, Middle Eastern, Germanic, French, Italian originated Brazilians have been living and some of them have been mingled with Amazon indian women and they can very easily get residency from Portugal whenever they find job applied from Brasil as Brasilian. Faro, VilaMoura, Albufeira, Lagos are very enticing places to live and purchase villas, apartments. Beaches on those southern Portugal places look like South Carolina, Georgian seashores on the Atlantic Ocean. Instagram is hakanozcanankara

The Azores were claimed by the Portuguese Crown in 1427. Settlement of the islands was initiated by the Portuguese in 1433. Throughout the 1400"s settlement continued with settlers arriving from various parts of Europe including France and Belgium. The islands were uninhabited when discovered. They were never under the possession of Morocco.
