The worst part about finding out about these images is that a lot of the human figures were all presumably destroyed, why destroy tv media for no reason especially considering the photos themselves look like it was from 7-8 years ago

Seeing all of these images just reminds me of the sheer passion that went into this show. You can tell that the people involved weren't just trying to make a quick buck by making a dumb, marketable show for toddlers. These people clearly loved Thomas and trains, and they certainly put their heart into this show.

It really was lightning in a bottle. In a weird way I suspect we have Jim Henson to thank for demonstrating that not only can children's television be art, but it can be enjoyable for all ages as art. Course, execs chasing ad money won out in the end, but the late 80s prestige kids TV scene was good while it lasted.

Wow. Among a load of backstage photos from the filming of Thomas and Friends, I did NOT expect to see Tom Hanks in there! Also, it was awe-inspiring seeing the concept art for so many season five episodes such as Something in The Air and Double Teething Troubles in there. But I couldn't suss what the one featuring Gordon was. 🤔

Seeing these dozens of images for the first time really opens up a whole new world of Thomas, doesn’t it? These being held for a price is terrible, though to see them all now with everyone enjoying them is honestly pretty incredible. With now confirmed four accounts with these photos, there’s no telling how much more we can learn about this show’s incredible history!

These are interesting. Loved the Chinese Dragon concept art. I know a CGI lecturer from my university used to work on Season 4 of Thomas the Tank Engine. Gareth Hutchinson, his name is. He made background props, character close up models and worked on the shot where Peter Sam had his nasty accident with the trucks.

Gatekeeping is not an inherently bad thing, provided the reasoning behind it is sound - things like trying to stop outsiders from just coming in and taking over your community despite having no attachment to it, or else trying to ensure a certain standard of quality among a community. Hence why the term is gatekeeping; you keep the gates of your city to protect a city. Where it becomes bad is when the reasoning is bad, and it goes too far, becoming tyrannical. As seen here. There's no good reason for these things to have been hidden away. It would make sense if the behind-the-scenes crew were the ones to sell them, but not randos on a forum.
@ItsTrainBoy
@ItsTrainBoy 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed my man; I think there’s situations where doing something like that is appropriate or perhaps comes down more to a person. For example with people who own props and such; it’s completely up to them when or if they want that to become public knowledge and I can’t blame them for such. Just like you said though when it comes to selling literal pictures they got for free for $200; not allowing distribution, and all of the other stuff; it’s hard to call it anything BUT tyrannical
@MrJoeyWheeler
@MrJoeyWheeler 2 жыл бұрын
@@ItsTrainBoy Hell, I'd actually question if it's even LEGAL in the first place. If they got them for free then they'd damn well better have a paper trail proving that they were given the copyright of the BTS stuff they're selling, otherwise they've opened themselves up to a lot of legal trouble!

** Laughs in Star Wars fan.** Gatekeep really depends on who's doing the gate keeping. If they are genuinely good people trying to keep naredowells out, then maybe it's good. More often then not it's aweful people trying to maintain power within a small group and will do so by horrible means including defaming perfectly good people. I won't mention his name here, but there was someone in the TTE community who did similar, who I unfortunately share a word in my username with. Beyond the guys who were charging like $200 bucks to see a few photos and maybe a model in decent shape. In general my take on gatekeeping is that more often then not it's used to keep our the people that just wanna help, and keep in the people that corrupt folks want to keep control over. I will admit There are like five reasons gatekeeping could be ok imo, but most of them deal with stuff like- keeping nuclear material safe, keeping pathogens secure in laboratories, making sure pilots are certified to fly planes, and to keep the general public away from dangerous machinery like massive trains, etc. But that's more practical safety than community based. And I will admit I'm 100% biased. Like I said "laughs in Star Wars fan", the tte fandom is a mess, but SW is worse. I'll still love Tte and Star Wars though, and anyone is free to love those things regardless of how much of a mess the communities are. Cause if I dictated who could and couldn't enjoy a thing, then I'd be gatekeeping.

I absolutely despise gatekeeping of any kind, but particularly in fandoms. Those people who tried to keep these images for themselves are not true fans and never will be true fans. Same goes for those collectors in the Dr Who fandom who knowingly are in possession of missing episodes and refuse to hand them in for the rest of the fans to enjoy. Pure selfishness for what? The "prestige" that a COUPLE OF PEOPLE know that you have rare items? What a sad and pathetic way to spend one's life...

Though I do have a question for those that ssee this comment, what would you think of someone hoarding a rare fanmade translation they don't own to a series they don't own and only sharing it to their group of friends and refusing to share it online? I saw that and I'm not sure how to feel on it so any intervention is appreciated
@TheGreyTurtleEntertainment
@TheGreyTurtleEntertainment 2 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on gatekeeping are simple. Yes there are a few positives, mostly in real world applications where people actually need to be kept safe, i.e. securing nuclear material, making sure only trained pilots fly planes, keeping children from playing on the tracks. But for the most part gatekeeping in the modern age has just become a way that corrupt people in positions of power not only maintain their power, but ensure challenges to their power by decent people are squashed (usually via defamation and slander) and that they maintain control over the people withing the community they have gated off. And let's just say while I haven't really gotten involved with tte twitter, I have been on the recieving end of gate keepers who were also bullies who didn't want to be called out for their behavior.... And let's just say I recognized that behavior over on tte twitter and noped out pretty quickly..... But not before noticing that y'all on Twitter kicked out a certain gate keepers who's username shared a word with mine. Maybe there is hope for the tte fandom after all.

I've always had this philosophy; no matter whatever peaked my attention, I would never - never - hastily put myself into a new unpredictable situation without being sure I would get something solid back in return for my effort. I figured that out gradually when I started sending out creative ideas to official corporations, only to find over time things weren't quite as simple as hoping they take heed of my long-distance indications. Family priorities also got in the way of focusing on my own creative work, hence why it has taken me this long to develop a full-out Thomas & Friends proposal which I'm hoping to present to Mattel via public media in the hopes of correcting things in time for the 80th Year of the franchise. It's a firm incentive, but I wasn't going to let it get in the way of finding a longer-term benefit out of my ideas. Regard, Samuel Farris.

What this does is show that the human figures were a lot bigger than I expected. I know that had a standard size and a mini size depending on the shot but looking at them being held like that, the standard figures look even larger!

8:46 that’s a map from tugs. If you look above it you can see tugs on it. Plus the layout of the map is similar to the show.

As much as I can agree that the people who kept these images to themselves and sold them off for 200 dollars are scum of the Earth, I still can't get who anyone would pay that much for a BTS picture of a train show. I guess love and passion for something can make someone make illogical decisions.

7:30 I’m going to take a guess and say that human face would’ve been Henry’s driver in whistles and sneezes after the boys threw stones. In the railway series I think the stones hit the driver and fireman too.

So let me get this straight, somebody in the Thomas community was hoarding never before seen behind the scene photos where he/she/they decided to start charging a lot of money to view said photos in which somebody leaked them. All I got to say is LMAO.

It's real common in the music bootleg world too. There's a live DVD from Metallica called 'Live Shit: Binge & Purge" which has two shows on the DVD and a third on CD...The third show was proshot and the footage does exist but iirc someone was doing the exact same thing so only a few songs are on the internet.
