My Two favorite Christmas Movies: 1. Miracle in thw Wilderness (Kris Kristofferson, Kim Cattrall)) (1991) - Kris Kristofferson plays a frontiersman who justly kills an Indian. However, the Indian's father is the chief. While Kris is out hunting, the Indians kidnap Kris' wife (Cattrall) and his baby son. While taking the son back, Kris catches up with them and is captured. The rest of the way back to the village to kill the baby son and Chris, Cattrall tells the Indians the story of Christmas each night with Kris interpreting the story in terms an Indian would understand. A simple, touching telling of the story of Christmas. The movie is great, as is the book. The book story is a bit different and a fantastic story to read to young kids (very short, as well.) 2. Joyeaux Noel (2005) Movie about the Christmas Truce in WW1.

0:30:11 - "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie. It takes place on Christmas Eve. It takes place during a Christmas (not "Holiday") office party. There are Christmas motifs throughout. Christmas music runs all through it. And in case that wasn't enough for you, at its core, it is a story of a man trying to redeem himself to his wife so that he might reconcile with her and spend Christmas with his family! The writer says it is a Christmas movie. The director says it is a Christmas movie. The star says it is a Christmas movie. "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie!

@@TheBabylonBeePodcast One of the elements I appreciated about his approach was the slow methodical process. I think particularly for the Atheist, it brings a solidly reasonable approach. And for the nominal believer, it brings clarity to so many concepts. As you mentioned, the moral law argument is such a pivotal reality that many don't stop to consider. One of my cousins was having trouble understanding how loving family above God could be a bad thing. I pointed him to The Great Divorce. It was an eye opener for him. Lewis says its purely fictional, however the illustrations of the deceitfulness of sin are masterful and realistic.

I am very similar to Kyle's wife. My wishlist and things I ask for Christmas are usually practical. I asked for a carpet cleaner this year. The first year I was married I wanted an iron and ironing board and so I told my husband to mention to his parents and they called me because they thought it was a trap 🤣. I like to get jewelry and stuff but honestly appreciate the practical stuff

"Christmastime was just people getting drunk and going crazy" Yeah, that was called "wassailing", and it's like trick-or-treating for grownups, except with beer instead of candy. Not kidding, listen to all the "wassail"-related Christmas carols. They basically Hallmarkify the practice.

I was horrified through most of "Love Actually" but I do love Bill Nighy singing "Love Is All Around Me." But, the original (by The Troggs) came out when I was 13, so there's also some nostalgia involved.

I saw that movie once and do not understand the appeal. I’m with Brandon- it’s garbage and should be avoided. I will say, I’m also with Jarret- the scene with Bill Nighy struggling to get the “Christmas is all around me” line is funny. Pretty sure you can find it on YT as a standalone.

So... when I was young for Christmas I asked for a very specific set of digital speakers that would connect to my Playstation 2 and give me surround sound. So instead of those they got me some generic analog speakers that I had no way to connect to anything at all. I mean... I didn't mean to be rude or anything... After watching me try and fail to use them for anything at all they finally relented and returned them to get what I asked for. Another time, I asked for a very specific PC game, Descent 2, I knew our computer could run that game. They bought me Descent 3, there was no prayer of ever playing that game on our computer. So they had to buy me a GPU back before all pc's had GPU's. VooDoo3 card. I stopped asking for gifts, and they stopped buying me anything but clothes to this day 25 years later. ... And to this day I don't think this is my fault.... But apparently I'm just impossible to buy for.

I collect versions of "A Christmas Carol" and the best version by far (imho) is 1970 "Scrooge" with Albert Finney (bad theology aside). George C Scott seems more like a serial killer than a miser, and that version plays out more like a horror film than Dickens Christmas. I keep expecting Scrooge to turn out to be Jack the ripper.
