Amazing how I've been trying to figure out how to approach this for 3 years now and you're the first person to explain it effectively. Can't wait to try this at stick n puck tomorrow

My first year skating at 36 years old, and I find this video extremely helpful with understanding the footwork. Thank you so much for the light bulb moment!

You make this look so easy lol, I really struggle with my outside edges but the way you demonstrated this gives me a better perspective. Thanks coach!

i struggled to find the balance with the first crossover, I was doing a good c-cut but just half-way crosses, definitely going to repeat these drills until I get it, great video :)

In the fwd x-over video you emphasized weight in heel. This helped me improve my balance. For backwards x-overs, I'm still struggling with balance on inside leg / outside edge. is there a similar emphasis on where I should place my weight in my skates?

It's going to middle/back. Same idea. Your chest needs to be up, bring your belly button over the leg you are balancing on (as much as you can), crush your shins into the tongue of your skate... We need to lean inwards without stepping down forwards. Same idea as the forward crossover.

Twist butt, same time outside leg over front. Slowly doing this barefoot in living room over and over seems to help...kids think I'm nuts. Will try this at rec. skating Thanks

Looks quite easy just watching… but went this morning 1h on the ice and that's another story! Tried hard but nope, couldn’t do it right… I struggle to cross my outside leg after that C cut no matter what. I always lose my balance! I'm 53 and learned late but still quite agile forward; backwards? Need more practice. I will try again tomorrow.

It sounds like you are struggling with Balance. Before that outside leg can make that cross, you need to be leaning (balancing) on the outside edge, of the inside leg. That's the gliding leg the outside is crossing over. But that is the scary one... leaning over your outside edge as you go backwards. Not an easy thing to overcome. The part of this video at the 1:20 mark explains that. Before the crossover can come, balance needs to established. In a week or so... hopefully by this weekend... I am going to have my Balance Development ASkating course finished. It will give you many different balance sequences to practice at the rink. I have created "Ear Bud" sequences so you will be able to download an audio file that has me talking you through the exercises when you are on the ice along with some groovy music. Prett fun. Stay Tuned!.

Great tips! I think the audio from the wireless mic is not coming through. You can really on hear coach when he’s close, so I thin the audio is from the camera.
