I too welled up a bit when viewing this film. I was born in Bacup in 1959 but moved away when I was one year old. I remember visiting relatives but I am sad we moved away. A smashing film which I look forward to showing my mother who is now 92yrs. I am sure she will enjoy watching this. Good work.

I use to live in Waterfoot in the early 1950s. I lived at The Duke of Buccleugh pub during this period. My elder brother worked in the ticket office at the station before he was called up for National Service. I have travelled on the train from Rawtenstall to Waterfoot too. My brother managed to get me onto the footplate once whilst the train was standing at the station on its way to Bacup.

We used to hope there was a person with a pram traveling to Waterfoot from the Bury direction so we could go down in the lift with them

@@scoutholme The parish priest at St.Chad's in Cheetham Hill is from Rawtenstall and he used to go to Bacup baths when he was a young lad. A parishioner is from Waterfoot. It's amazing who you come across. My son and a nephew live in Bacup so they are sort keeping the connection in the family.

They ripped the heart out of Rossendale when they took up the tracks. Such terrible short sightedness.

I see Station steps are still there, short cut to Morrisons now. Left the steps but took the railway! New line is all a big grassverge now. My dad went from Bacup to Ramsbottom. They've now taken up the running board at the side of the box that used to bounce as I walked on it to signal box. It bounced more because I had 3 big brothers behind me yelling, " Run, the train's coming!" It never dawned until dad heard them one day and told me the train couldn't set off until he had closed the gates pulled the signal to go!

I love stuff like this ! I know Bury quite well & have travelled the East Lancs railway a few times, on a nice day its lovely. Ive also walked the path from Rawtenstall through Irwell Vale to Stubbins (more or less alongside the tracks & river) thats a nice hours walk too. I lived in Rossendale for years, but am too young to remember the Rawtenstall - Bacup train track. Its well known where it used to be though, and its fascinating to see how it was built up behind rows of shops we all knew. I bet Bacup - Rawtenstall was a nice train ride too ! Didnt the train track once go all the way from Bacup to Shawforth - Whitworth - Rochdale as well ? I vaguely recall seeing the route on the wall of Victoria Station in Manchester

There was a line from Bacup to Rochdale or should we say Rochdale to Bacup (The Facit Branch line0 It opened in two stages, from Rochdale to Facit in 1870, and from Facit to Bacup in 1881.and closed in stages passenger trains were withdrawn from the line in 1947, although the section from Rochdale to Facit remained open to goods trains until 1963 and to Whitworth until 1967. If you enjoy railway walks there is a newly restored part from Waterfoot going through the two tunnels on the upline this will eventually go as far as rochdale . www.disused-stations.org.uk/b/bacup/

Just spotted.. The tunnel at 6:28 isn't Stubbylee Tunnel. I don't know where the pic is taken but it's nowhere in Rossendale.

Great collection of snap from Bacup's and the surrounding area hey day. l still think Bacup is great even the decay has a attractiveness. It will look awful if they put another larger Supermarket, and will follow in Rawtenstall footstep a town without a soul.

The pictures at 6:23 and 6:27 aren't Bacup. Stubbylee Tunnel is a very different shape and the landscape is different (though sort of similar)
