Good stuff. Jesus was also placed together with two criminals, one of whom asked Jesus to remember *him*, when He comes into His kingdom. Joseph was forgotten but the new Joseph remembers.

Exactly! In each episode, one criminal is brought low in judgment, one criminal is elevated to the kingdom with the "Joseph" figure. "Remembering" is the difference maker. May the true Joseph remember us in his elevation to the kingdom, that we may eat at his table with him.

Wow! I've wondered a lot about why the baker and the cupbearer are used as such distinct and strong parallels to Christ but the two thieves on the cross really makes so much sense of it!

The story of Joseph is a prophecy of Jesus as the suffering servant: he was rejected by his 12 brothers; Jesus was rejected by His 12 brothers (tribes), Joseph was sold for 20 shekels of silver; Jesus was sold for 30 shekels by Judas. Joseph was elevated from prison to the right hand of Pharaoh in a day; Jesus went from death to the right hand of God. Joseph was not recognized by his brothers in his position of authority, Jesus was not recognized when He appeared from His position of authority. Joseph was falsely accused and condemned; Jesus was falsely accused and condemned. Joseph saved Jacob (Israel) and his 12 brothers; Jesus saved Israel and the 12 tribes. Joseph was condemned with two others while one was saved; Jesus was condemned with two others and one was saved. Joseph is a prophecy about Jesus as the suffering servant in His first coming, but He is Joshua in His 2nd coming. Prophecy in the Bible is pattern.

behind the scenes, as Joseph is in Pharaohs prison, just before Joseph is sent for to interpret the dreams, Josephs grandfather Isaac dies aged 180 years of age, symbolically/actually releasing his grandson like a foreshadowing of the aaronic priesthood, as he dies the people in the city of refuge are released to go back home. Isaac dies and releases Joseph to stand before Pharaoh at age 30. Just like Methuselah the year of the great flood dies, grandfather of Noah, he dies and Noah rises up above the waters, walking on the waters in the new creation model, ascending up and over the symbolic/actual death and rises to new life in the new world. just like Joseph rising, resurrecting from a form of death to newness of life as second command under Pharaoh. Foreshadowing Jesus' ultimate reality of all these things.
