I like the part where Evan complained about how the manager's not there to help out the team during lunch rush... while they locked themselves in some back room making a TikTok and not helping out the team during lunch rush. That TOTALLY won't breed resentment towards them from their coworkers.

I did 6 pm to 6am shifts at the international airport 1.5 hrs drive away... fueling airliners... for what turned out to be barely $2/hr more than a 10 min bicycle ride to the local Tim Hortons, pouring coffee. I got hired JUST after the “union” had negotiated frozen wages for 5 years. About the same length of time to get on the seniority list to take part on the lotto to get nicer day shifts. Union dues taken off each check was not something those coffee pourers had to worry about either let alone gas costs for 3 hrs commute daily. I don’t remember a Tim’s coffee cryer ever standing out in all weather, or jetstream behind a turning taxiing jet (think of the windchill value at -30). Evan, the tanker truck hoses are really heavy ok? You eventually smell like fuel by lunch break, that you have to eat in the truck between fills. NO earbuds, phone browsing, or music (radio / situation awareness expected) Alone, no fellow whiner shoulder to cry on.. . Redundant fuel checks , math in your head , besides the computer guage read outs.(Evan would fail that too) You will have to shift stick on a heavy massive tanker truck and face a fine for your company if you aren’t fast...a 60 second delay is the max you get before the fine slaps on. And stewardesses on the larger planes don’t mind nosing up at your smell when you march up the gangway to serve the 777 the fuel chit by hand I don’t remember crying about my work. Nor did I want to work pouring coffee (could you stand the likes of an EVAN TO WORK WITH?)... it was a wage comparison that was pointed out to me soon after starting at the airport. All these years later, my life isn’t ruined. I wanted changes to get a healthier sleep life/work balance and went after it. Not sure how or when that Gen got to be so pathetic, but clearly they don’t actually want responsibility or reward for work well done. NO ONE OWES YOU an easy pass and free money, “evan”. FFS man up and stop being a fn whiner, make your future don’t piss around on your phone telling the world your life is miserable because you can’t handle anything. See, this is why we can’t have nice things....

I have Asperger's, I've been strange and had a weirdly-working brain that was obvious since I was a toddler. But the mental health industry was so weak in the 1980's & 90's that they didn't know high-functioning autism was a thing, so I didn't get diagnosed. I was simply known as "a troubled child" and "the weird kid." When I was 13 my OCD got so bad that I was misdiagnosed as schizophrenic. Wasn't until I was 27 that I finally got things straightened out and got my proper diagnosis of Autism/Asperger's with OCD. But after seeing KZbinrs like Gundam rip so many weak-ass & bizarre alien-gendered "neuro-divergent" people from Tik-Tok, I'm starting to think I might not be autistic after all. Even at my worst, I could fiction 1,000 better in society than these so-called people.
@Toliman.
@Toliman. Жыл бұрын
No, it’s not you. It’s just that self-diagnosis reinforces and validates people who are insecure, and creates a shield from reality and responsibility. That shield also prevents people from taking responsibility or adapting to circumstances, forcing others to change instead of themselves. You will recognise this pretty quickly once you see a few symptoms of petty tyranny and identity masking, ie hiding behind an authority figure or identity to create a story version of events that may not correspond to reality. The worst thing is, the delusional confidence is what gets people like this, promoted. Woe if someone like this is in charge of finance, as they usually also start stealing money and hiding fraud, petty or serious, from others as “doing a favour” or making friends with people. And Managers love people like this in their organisation, because of the ego confirmation. If you get in this bind, document all your actions and take photos of anything you sign. Write everything down that you are instructed to, just say you are forgetful. I had a senior who walked out of the office with 40 office computers on a weekend, which was wild.

Of course you can function better than these weaklings. It seems to me that even though you have shortcomings, you seem to be mentally strong and sound. You don't let your disabilities hinder you and that is respectable. I really wish these 'neuro-divergent' people get a grip and pick themselves up, because they've seen nothing if they think misgendering is bad; especially if the economy continues to crumble.

i too have asperger, and i have honestly pulled the same shit as this guy evan did. problem is that i was diagnosed correctly at a young age, and then nobody expected anything from me. i was never trusted to do any work because of it, and in hindsight i was incredibly mentally weak because of it. ive had breakdowns like the one evan had, so i can relate to his stress, but the difference between me and evan is that i always realised that the problem was with me. if all your coworkers are able to function but you, the job is not the problem. worst of all, this dude films himself having a breakdown. at least i had the dignity to go to the bathroom and cry like a bitch there. never let them see you bleed and have some self awareness about your problems, because there are loads of People in this world who have it worse

Surround yourself with people that have your back and when you fall, they will be there to pick you back up and dust you off. No one can be strong forever. Also, DO NOT BE ASHAMED OF MOVING BACK WITH YOUR PARENTS. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to live on your own right now without help from at least two others to pay rent. Depending on your age bracket, the majority of people are in your position. I'm gen z and my siblings and I aren't even thinking about moving out any time soon despite our parents doing so when they were 18-20. It's just not economically feasible so don't feel too bad. I'm what people now call "Neurodivergent" too. It can definitely be more of a challenge than the normal person. Needing a couple extra breather breaks here and there or risk losing your ability to comprehend all speech as well as going home feeling so drained mentally you can't even talk to someone if you WANTED to. So for that he/she has my sympathy. However, at the same time, even with these challenges I have been working for over a year now at a Chick-Fil-A, which is CONSTANTLY busy, only in this time taking off _one_ sick day because I was too physically weak to function and too much of a snot hazard to be allowed in anyways. And I am happy to say say I am a very reliable employee when it comes to arriving on time and doing what needs to be done to the best of my ability. Am I the _best_ employee? Of course not. I often struggle with talking to customers and am a little slow when cleaning because I am so _gosh darn_ insistent everything look perfect! However, thankfully my tenacity alone has kept me afloat. Though I have had my challenges, I have prevailed rather well. I have grown much thicker skin and I like to see that as improvement. Because Evan is so quick to flop around on the floor like a dying fish while I at my job am doing the best I can to the best of my abilities...I do not have sympathy in that area. @@wykydytron definitely understand where you're coming from. I've made fun of myself in the past for the same reasons. However, I do have to remember to give myself a _bit_ of a break from time to time. I was just talking about my work life as well. Back when I was in public school, I was forced into three extra classes thanks to both my struggles and strengths. That was extremely tiring for a little kid and I ended up thinking I was insanely stupid even though I was several grades ahead in math and just a grade or two behind in reading. I just want you to understand where I am coming from. I know how weak and pathetic I am and that everyone else deals with the same struggles as I. (Yes I have self esteem problems.) That being said, though, on top of three extra classes at school I also had to go to both speech therapy and be taught at an embarrassingly old age how to read body language and facial expressions. This is not because I was on my phone all the time. I didn't even get my phone until I got a job. My parents are very conservative and have raised me differently from the rest, ensuring I never became weak mentally and physically. I respect your view that I am just a weak and pathetic Gen Z but please do understand this is not self diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Autism and Dyslexia professionally at the age of five and have shown symptoms since. I work daily to improve despite this, but do understand growing up like this I have always felt as though I am someone in a race set several feet behind the rest of the racers. Do I complain and whine about this? No. Despite my Dyslexia, I have become a professional writer. Despite my Autism, I have learned how to read body language and faces better than most. I'm an animator. I'm a book and script writer. I'm a co director and an aspiring director. And I've never let my diagnosis become an excuse to sit back and complain about how badly I have it. I simply use it to better understand why some things may be harder than others. Please don't read this and think I am angrily ranting. I'm merely trying to explain where I am coming from. Thanks for reading if you did and bye. 👋

when i was new to the work force an older gentlemen told me (they where a supervisor) that they didn't expect teens and early 20's to stay long due to the fact that other business's saw working at a fast food place as good since if they could keep that job, it showed the individual could not only work but could adapt to changing situations, deal with bad customers and where able to be on time. these "step up jobs" where literally seen by companies that pay more and require more skill as a way to assess if an individual had the ability to be part of the work force and deal with a job like an adult.

Love this shit. I used to work a similar job schedule while going to college. Although when one day the boss decided to schedule me at a time they knew I would be in class (against my posted availability) I let them know. They told me to find someone to cover the shift which I let them know I wasn't going to do and wouldn't be there for much of the first half of the shift. Believe it or not scheduling wasn't in my pay grade and my education was more important that a minimum wage job. Ended up "no showing" and got into a yelling match at the back of the store with the manager who threatened to fire me. Due to another issue I then threatened to walk out. Went in Saturday morning for one of my normal 8 hour weekend shift and had a good laugh with some of the staff about the whole thing. This person has decided to totally break down at the concept of not even working normal hours. mind boggling.

It's the "they don't care about us" line that sticks out to me. Kids that have spent the predominant part of their life in the day care playground we call highschool are suddenly thrust into the real world and find out the hard way that there is no more us (kids) and them (adults) and that no one else is there just to look after them. Remember the times when a new hire would finally realise just how onnerous taxes are after getting their first payslip? We're so far from that now and this is the new paradigm.

I was so happy to go into the workforce because I wanted to get out of school. I wanted to do adult things. I wanted to get paid for the work I was doing, rather than earn some nebulous and pointless "grade" that ultimately meant nothing for that same work. I discovered that "high school doesn't end" and work was very much like high school. The difference being... if you were VERY good at your job, you could apply to get MORE MONEY while if you were TERRIBLE, they limped you along as long as possible until you were ultimately "let go" for "general incompetence". It has been my privilege to turn liberal children into conservatives by explaining to them how taxes work and who ends up getting to spend that money. There are no liberals who exist that pay taxes. You can only ever be a liberal if you never pay taxes. The world doesn't give two craps about anyone. Nobody cares about anyone's complaints. Not unless they have the exact same complaint you do... and they only care in-so-far as it affects themselves, and not you. That's the world. I think it's the best thing ever.

I'm struggling with aspergers, I've been cycling through a couple jobs realizing its' causing issues leading to stressful breakdowns where I've had to quit my most recent one (and had the luxury to luckily), and am currently reassessing my long term options for the future. Yes I have gone and hid in the bathroom and cried like this (as have most everyone at some point), but I'm never gonna go into a job saying I have aspergers accommodate me or I'LL MAKE YOU. It is something I need to learn to work with and work around, it's atypical and impossible for society at large to upheave the norm for each individual breaking off the norm, by choice or otherwise. Cry your tears, buck up and truck on. Tons of places are begging for employees at least where I live, go fucking somewhere else. Fuck the union.
@SknCommonLisper
@SknCommonLisper Жыл бұрын
Disagree on unions, they serve an important, and good purpose. But there's some caveats to that. Firstly, unions work great in protected fields (like electrical work, construction, etc), but introducing unions in non-protected fields is just dumb (retail, IT, etc). Unions work well when there's a lot of government regulation regulating the work, as you need something to keep both in balance (union interests conflict with government, and vice versa). Secondly, it just wouldn't work for what "OP" wants unions to work as. Unions do not protect the rights of non-fulltime members (which require fulltime employment, which part-time is not), and instead will focus on pressuring non-fulltime members into going fulltime. She'd be seeing more 8 hour work, rather than less of it, if she joined a "starbuck union"... Though I kind off want to see that now, just to see her crying about "unions are horrible!".

During the pandemic I was trucking full-time. Working 12-14hr a day, sleeping at different time intervals, living on gas station food, crapping in bags and peeing in bottles, watching my love ones go by in a flash without me, living in my truck working 7 days per week non stop. Anyone want to complain about their job? Try driving a commercial truck. You want stress? Drive that same truck in California in the outer lanes around a mountain on a incomplete road that does not have a wall. I literally had 3 ft between my truck and a 1000ft deep cliff with hell waiting at the bottom if just one of my tires to my trailer slipped. Surgens don't know this level of stress. It's one thing to potentially loose a patient life. How about your life and multiple people's lives at the same time. Yeah my little snow flakes complain about making coffee.

If they were younger and just hated working I could sympathize with them. Working sucks, but when you get good at your tasks you achieve the ability to start taking it a little easier at work and now it’s not so bad. However I don’t think I would’ve been able to survive if I still had that mindset in my late teens/early 20’s. Personally I think everyone should work as a laborer to understand how much work can REALLY suck. That way if one ends up working indoors (no matter what the industry/position) life doesn’t seem so bad 😂

If little Evan thinks making coffee part time during a busy period is bad, then he should see what's it's like working retail during the holiday season, where you have at least 2 call offs, a no call, no show, 25 people in line, and the phone ringing off the hook. Or better yet, try unloading a truck with only 2 people for 3 hours.

I'd like to see that kid work 70 hours a week in a foundry. I'd pay to see it. My wife's little brother got a degree, couldn't find work, and ended up in a factory. He made it two hours into his first shift and spent the final six hours crying in the office. Now he works minimal part time hours in a deli. He's super smart, and he wasn't like this before college. The last time I almost quit was in the middle of a twelve hour shift when I was doing three jobs at once because the company refuses to address our turnover. While doing three jobs at once middle management decided to pick on me as almost everyone else was on break. Honestly nothing beats being lectured on your job by people who have read about your job once in a book. I have to write out information on defective products and these people don't even read it. I once got pulled away and asked "Why did I account for these 51 rejects but not these other four?" I was incredibly tempted to respond with "Jee, I wonder why. Well if we look at the labels on them, they seem to be in someone else's handwriting, signed with someone else's name, with a noted time from before my shift. Wowee, I wonder why I didn't write it in my paperwork." Thanks for listening.
