Man...does this take me back. I sent in for these 45's with box tops from Pop-tarts. I still have my records too and they are still in good, playable condition. Thanks for putting these on youtube...its a great trip back to a simpler time :)

I had these two 45s from the Kelloggs offer when I was a kid. But like many childhood things, they were given away. And now, in my mid 50s, I wish I still had them. This is good stuff, especially this song. It's got that bubblegum hit quality of the time. It likely coulda been a Top 40 hit if released as a single. Too bad the iTunes Store doesn't have these. I'd love to have them again. Hmm, I tried looking under 'The Banana Splits', maybe I should look under the name 'Al Kooper', or the title.

It's actually one of the best Splits songs. Anyway, no shame in that, it's better than a lot of the so called heavy music of the day.

@Saturday8pm I contacted Al a few years back through his website and asked him if he did indeed write this, and I got this response: "I'm afraid so." He co-wrote it, so he has a right not to like it, but I think he's a bit too hard on himself and the song. It's actually more than a few notches above the bubblegum rock of the day. Those were the days when great rockers would show up in the dangdest places, like Nilsson did on THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR. And yes, I had these 45's, too!

@Saturday8pm : friggin' Al Kooper? You know he played the organ part on "Like A Rolling Stone" right? Which gives him one of the most kick-ass seats in rock and roll history....

Al Kooper! The name's right on the credits on the label. It eventually dawned on me it was him singing this years after I bought the first BS+T and Blues Project LPs. I played the heck outta those two singles when I was 6 ... I thought THAT was rock! I think the best song was "I Enjoy Being a Boy" ... good rip of The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields" ... turning childhood memories of the old neighborhood into a fudge-heavy banana split!

I even remembered the label was yellow with some kind of green print design.

The Banana Splits songs are good, but the singing voices don’t sound the same as their spoken voices on the T.V show.
