A banana taped to a wall sold for £5million? This is ludicrous. It's worth £6million at least.

This is how our society is stupid, egocentric and brainwashed. Art is the reflet of the civilisation we live in. As we arte are actually not living in a civilisation what do you expect? This work is a brilliant depiction of this sinking ands stupid society.

No. It is a concept. There is no banana. Only instructions for recreating the installation, which is widely considered the most significant work of art of the 21st century. Why? Because of the massive response to the work. It seems ridiculous and that is a large component of the work, which is titled "Comedian." At $5.2 million, quite a steal, actually.

@@Millylerks I was curious so I looked it up. When you purchase this piece it comes with a certificate of authenticity but no banana or tape. This is how desperate the art world is to find something to sell. It's no longer about the skill of the artist, like Van Gogh or Renoir. It's about novelty, because there are no more great works of art available and the sellers have to sell something in order to survive. Throw a couple of buckets of paint on a canvas and add a few splatters and the art world will talk of the great skill and the unique technique that is shown in this MASTERPIECE. Now that is desperate ! HA HA HA, fools. : )
@paultardspambot27 күн бұрын
"no great works of art avaailable" Really? Billions of people and no one makes great art? The things from the past we think of as "great art" are considered so because of the attention they got and the influence they had. You can go to deviantart and find great artworks, depending on your taste. But in terms of high money auctions, its about notoriety, not some notion of pure aesthetic quality. It's a form of status symbol. Some one may love a painting or sculpture, but they aren't going to pay millions if there isn't a comparable resale value. Think about it, if it was just the aesthetic appeal, a copy of a famous painting should be worth equal to the original. Whats brings up the price is the value and hence the money certain kind of people would spend. Ancient artifacts are often considered "priceless" not because a piece of pottery or a stone is so incredible, but a valuation by recognition of the history and scarcity.

Thank you for sharing this supplemental information regarding and pertaining to mauricio's a banana to a white wall that sold for $6.2 million in November 20th 2024 it's ridiculously hilarious and funny and that is what I really think captures the essence of this artistic way of expressing oneself to provoke humorous funny humor amongst the thousands were hundreds of people the video has gone viral and it's very perplexing because It gives us a clear understanding how simplicity in all this art form can be beautiful duct taping a banana to the wall is mind boggling an insane devious thing to do but not only does it provoke humor but it also mix the individual think about life and in all its ramifications it's interesting because 50% of RNA genome can be found in the banana implying that humanity owes his existence to a banana so I I honestly think with the mastermind Is trying to project that we owe our existence to the fundamental glue what can be found down to the subatomic level of a banana which would be potassium! Accompanied by, hydrogen! oxygen! nitrogen! and carbon!

Most of the commenters here seem to miss the point. Whatever you think about it, the artist and the art world are very much in on the inherent absurdity and what it says about the art world, and thats central to the perceived value by some. The things people are saying are the exact type of responses the artist intends to invoke. Of course it's subjective and you can still think thats stupid or just a "meta con" so to speak, but many here are commenting repeating the surface level reactions that were very much central to what the artist was trying to do. Its legit to reject that but seems like a lot here arent even getting that
