This was one of “our” songs from when my wife and I were dating. A long distance relationship, we were living on different continents and each going through the various stages of doubt about how our relationship would turn out. The lyrics are amazingly fitting for us and the song evokes a tremendous emotional response everytime I hear it. We celebrated our 30th anniversary last year…

This song I heard one night in a miltary canteen in 1989. It was a brutal and difficult time in my life, just before been sent into a war zone in Angola. We were all nearly broken men still boys actually struggling to find meaning in all the hardship. I think this song touched most of us that night and gave us a glimpse of beauty and possibly love in the future. I will never forget that night.

@KeldorDAntrell6 жыл бұрын
By whom was she under-rated? She was widely considered the best-looking of the group, she was obviously the best singer or she wouldn't have been chosen to be the lead, it was well-known that she could play the guitar and so wasn't in the band just for her looks, and she led the band to a degree of global success commensurate with their ability. If she wasn't as highly rated as, say, Madonna, it was only because she genuinely wasn't as good.
@KeldorDAntrell6 жыл бұрын
@Angkorian Rises, it's all in the eyes of the beholder. I watched a documentary on which the scientists said that facial symetry is a key component in so-called beautiful people yet when they used a computer to scan and evaluate these models several of those who scored most highly didn't look much to me. I realised that the reason for this lies in certain aspects of personal taste e.g. a woman might have a perfectly symetrical face yet have big lips with it and if I don't like such big lips then she won't be so attractive to me no matter what the computer indicates. It would be in this way that a person can look at a woman so widely considered to be beautiful and find her merely 'regular'. I find Meg Ryan and Micheal Pfeiffer ordinary yet most people think they're gorgeous. Then there's our preference for a certain body type. I don't like women who are skinny and Susanna is a little on the skinny side for my tastes. Many people will find their judgement of her 'beauty' altered from such factors.

@musicman2010476 ай бұрын
@@Corkoth55I'll answer that for you. As someone who grew up in The Big 80s era, it was THE greatest time to be alive, to see, feel, hear the art created back then wash over your soul, heart, mind, each note, lyric sung gently, seductively, erotically tickling every fibre of your being like Eternal Flame does. The passionate way the Bangles do this classic, especially Susannah Hoff, just naturally puts you in the mood for love, to be loved, give love, to be held, caressed, kissed, held close by your special one, even if they aren't here anymore. That is what is so great, cool, hip about The Big 80s music era, even today all of it still sings, talks to your soul, mind, heart. If you feel lonely or blue, try listening to Eternal Flame or Matthew Wilder's Break My Stride, or Irene Cara's What a Feeling, ABBA's Dancing Queen, or Belinda Carlisle's Circle In the Sand, Spandau Ballet's True, REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling, Sting's Fields of Gold, Lionel Ritchie's All Night Long, Oh No, Hello, Say You, Say Me, Cyndi Lauper's I Drove All Night, Time After Time,as examples. The art of The Big 80s has something for everyone, no matter how you identify yourself as, be it then or today. I'm 61, and I still listen and groove to The Big 80s. And I will be until God calls me home. This genre of music makes you feel good, chases away the blues, even if for a little while. That is what growing up listening to The Bangles Eternal Flame was, still is like, back then and now. The music is timeless, and will last forever.

@fish-fy5sh3 жыл бұрын
i'm not trying to be mean, but the 80s only *seem* like a simpler time because you're looking at thing retrospectively. they were in fact not simpler times than the times right now. people dealt with just as many hardships. you only remember the good memories of things long ago.
@davidmariopratt3 жыл бұрын
@@fish-fy5sh That is a true statement, however time is not linear, and when people are speaking from personal experiences, such as @Sophos Senor, things might have been simpler. People will continue to say the past was simpler because yes we love to reflect on the positive experiences, and yet, what if that person was living a simple life with out the hardship of a divorce, or searching for a life purpose, and the only agenda was to go to school, be cool, and live life to the best of their experience at that time.... Where as in contrast, someone else on some other spot on the planet was going through something massive, such as surviving behind the Iron Curtain of the Soviet Union... See it is all speculative upon ones experience... And everybody's experience is totally valid.. Including yours! See we each have a certain perspective from our lives as we live them, and it seems arbitrary to say anything can be the absolute truth. Just my thoughts... Of course what I say is not the absolute truth... rather another perspective among many.. and that is what keeps the human race so interesting..

The greatest song the Bangles ever did. And it is truly one for eternity. A song for the ages.

I was born in 99. Until now I still like listening to this song and remembering the past when I gather with family, this song is very touching.

This song went through my head as my mother sat with my dad before he passed, just the two of them.

one of the most underrated bands ever. Only did three albums in the 80's together before breaking up. But wow. What hits. Two number one hits (Eternal Flame, Walk like an Egyptian) two number two hits (Manic Monday, Hazy Shade of Winter) In Your Room went to #5 and Walking down your street #10. So many other great songs as well on those three albums. And those harmonies!

Close your eyes, give me your hand, darlin' Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Is this burning an eternal flame I believe it's meant to be, darlin' I watch you when you are sleeping You belong with me Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Or is this burning an eternal flame Say my name Sun shines through the rain A whole life so lonely And then come and ease the pain I don't want to lose this feeling, oh Say my name Sun shines through the rain A whole life so lonely And then come and ease the pain I don't want to lose this feeling, oh Close your eyes, give me your hand Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Or is this burning an eternal flame Close your eyes, give me your hand, darlin' Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Is this burning an eternal flame Close your eyes, give me your hand, darlin' Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming, ah An eternal flame Close your eyes, give me your hand, darlin' Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming, ah Is this burning an eternal flame Close your eyes, give me your hand, darlin'
