Yep, massive crush on Susanna Hoffs. I loved her look in that red dress when they're all dolled up and dancing like Egyptians too (and she's barefoot...oh man). Now I find out she recorded her parts naked? Really? Good grief. Probably a good thing I didn't know that back in my mid/late teenage years.

For those that don't know, Susanna Hoff's smokey-eyed side glance that she does was one of the definitive 80's music video moments. She hypnotized a generation of boys with it, myself included. In fact, I still am. If you know, you know.

I owned a bar when this song came out. We had it on the jukebox and whenever this song came on people would start doing the walk like an Egyptian dance. It was comical seeing a bar full of drunks doing the walk like and Egyptian but everyone had fun doing it. LOL

Thanks to my seventh grade art teacher, wherever she is. That's where I learned that pyramids were painted with images of food and game and all the things the pharoah would need in the afterworld...including servants. All those paintings, they believed, would come to life...and a servant with just one arm and one leg couldn't serve well at all, right? That's the reason for the pose. Thank you, ancient Egyptian artist, for making this song possible!

Very few pop bands do much for me, but The Bangles had so much fun you couldn't help but like them. Also, they were about the same age as me, in the 1980s, so it felt quite satisfying to see young women from my generation do so well for themselves. As a fun fact, the bassist for The Bangles during their heyday, Michael "MIcki" Steele, had also been the bassist for The Runaways. The Runaways paved the way for The Bangles and many other female rockers.

SNL alum Dennis Miller, as part of his stand up routine, had a bit where he'd claim to be able to do impressions, including one of the final solo singer here, Susanna Hoffs. The Bangles were seriously under-rated! Loved this song, and Manic Monday (by Prince), and especially their official video cover of Hazy Shade of Winter by Paul Simon. Reportedly, Simon didn't like the cover but I think it's fire. It looks like a live performance with video clips from a movie whose title I can't remember. The guitar riff is the same as the Simon and Garfunkel version, but kicked up several notches! Also Dust Angels was a terrific song!

The Bangles, of course, were more than Hoffs but the record company wanted the “hot chick” at the front. This pretty much broke up a band that had multiple talented singers singing. As several of the Bs said, doing the S&G cover, the Hazy Shade of Winter, which is one of the best covers even in my opinion, was like going back to the old days of the band because they al sang.

genX mid-80s: was a cool fad for pre-teens to say either "No way" or "Way" for "Yes," or to indicate agreement,"Way." '"Wayooo" in the song means 'Yes, do the 'Walk Like An Egyptian' dance. I think the "Way" phrase was used in one of the Home Alone movies.
