That ending was really hard hitting. Perfectly captures the power behind sacrificing for those you love, and loss in general. Don't ever be sorry for being affected by games. The beauty of video games as an entertainment medium is that it puts the outcome in the players' hands, and that can have drastic impacts that reach far beyond what other forms of artistic entertainment can do in some cases. Games that involve children in them hit me hardest, i understand that you cried and its okay. You dont realise it but troughout the story you can tell how much the father cares about his daughter, he may not express it the best but he really does. So I haven't see anyone explain this in the comments but like I'm pretty sure in the game the mom left after having issues with the dad and the dad and daughter were left alone. After awhile they got sick and assuming they died at the end, them both resting peacefully. Anyways this made me cry and touched my heart entirely. Pity how you totally did not get the story... Their daughter got sick because of mental illness (stress from parents expectations, stage performing, loneliness and unpeaceful home), but people at that time use to think mental illness = lunatic, so the father took her to a witch (who is in fact a scam) instead of finding an actual doctor. Mei Shin eventually become not able to sing because of stress; she got better in the witch's place only because she quit all of her singing career (stress), and being able to stay with her dad while doing the "treatment". But her dad actually thought the witch made her better, so he starts to pray even more, and give out all their money; The wife was a ghost in the game because that's how she looks in the father's eye. The wife couldn't stand and wanted to move to another place (somewhere the witch is not right upstairs from your house :P), but they don't have money. So she left the family and recover her career to earn money. Meanwhile, Mei Shin noticed that her mom was gone, and was having her most stressful time, making her illness the worst. So the dad asked the witch again, and the witch told him to dump Mei Shin into snake wine for 7 days, which leads to her death. When the father found out, the witch had already ran away, and Mei Shin was dead. In the end of the game, the dad is alone, trash everywhere because there's no wife to clean it; he sit on the chair alone dreaming the past, and when the wife came back from career, she asked "where's Mei Shin?" (which is the start of the game). The whole game is about him realizing and regretting what he have done. The pulling-his-tongue part isn't real, it's just a representation of how devoted the dad is to his daughter.

This is one of those games that needs attention like Walten Files. You have to read and listen to everything to get a full understanding. It’s tragic but also very beautifully told. Basically the story is the mom was a former star and the dad a famous screen writer before Mei Lin was born. Mei Lin likes to sing like her mom and wants to be a star. Mei Lin also suffers from panic attacks that result in fainting spells, though it is believed at first to be something physically wrong with her. The mother wants to go back to acting because the family is losing money because the dad is still trying and failing to be a successful writer. The dad also spends money trying to keep up appearances and also giving it to the spiritual advisor he goes to for help. He is too proud to admit that he needs to give up writing to support his family and he is too controlling to allow the wife to provide for the family. The mother eventually gets fed up and leaves Mei Shin and the father. Mei Shin’s progress begins to get worse after this and losing the singing competition. Her father also starts to ignore her, instead praying all day to cure his daughter. At the end of his rope, the father turns to his spiritual advisor to “cure” Mei Lin who the advisor claims is possessed. In reality she just has anxiety and needs to do calming things like making her paper flowers or clicking marbles to help relax her. It’s also shown that her parents toxic relationship is triggering for her and what she wants most is for them to be together. The dad refuses to accept that her problems are mental. So instead he does a ritual on Mei Lin where he puts her in a bathtub full of wine to soak for three days without food or water. Mei Lin cries out for her dad but he refuses, at his advisors advice, to let her out so tragically Mei Lin dies. This game explores the father’s guilt as he comes to terms with and faces what he did before taking his own life and joining his daughter, who in the end has forgiven him for his devotion.
