I’m a rocker at heart: Van Halen, AC/DC, Montrose, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin… but I will always have a spot in my heart and music library for The Irish Rovers going back to my childhood. I well remember seeing them live in Sydney, Nova Scotia as a kid and on CBC all the time. They’re a Christmas tradition on my playlist and they bring it just as hard as any of my beloved rock bands. Hats off to the Rovers. Always had it. Always will.

My late grandmother (of Irish descent), before she died, called me to her, shook my hand with her two hands, said goodbye and sent me away.I was 11 years old.I didn't feel she was leaving. It was night, I was in bed and I heard cries/screems.I ran to see if she was okay, but the sounds didn't come from her room.I went out on the balcony and it sounded even louder there.I was like in ecstasy.I did not know what to feel - no sadness, no fear, no peace or joy.I was just listening to those moans. The next day, family friends came to our house to help my father with the funeral. She was gone.I felt a huge emptiness in my heart, I remember it as a physical pain. She was gone, and the cries were over ... Thank you for this masterpiece that will always remind me of my grandma. P.S. Excuse me for my bad English, I'm born in Bulgaria.

Lyrics: My name is Frankie Kavanagh, in Ireland I do dwell It's of a family curse I sing, the truth to you I'll tell A banshee does appear to us, a harbinger of death A warning that soon one of us, will draw their final breath It was a dark and stormy night, no moon to light the sky I wasn't more than four or five, when first I heard her cry A wailing lamentation, that filled me with the fright And in the morning I was told, your granddad died last night Perhaps it's just the wind that's whistl'ing round the window pane Or maybe it was thunder, or the rhythm of the rain The old ones say "an omen, and death won't be denied" The devil's on the hunting, when you hear the banshees cry She comes to warn a family, that death is quick and near Her eyes are red from crying, as she sheds her bitter tears A woodlin' of the fairy folk, she sings in moarnful tones And if you hear her keen, it'll chill you to the bone Perhaps it's just the wind that's whistl'ing round the window pane Or maybe it was thunder, or the rhythm of the rain The old ones say "an omen, and death won't be denied" The devil's on the hunting, when you hear the banshees cry You hear the banshee howling, is to make your blood run cold Knowing that the devil's come, to claim another soul The families are all gone now, but I'm the last to see And every night I wait in dread, to hear her cry for me Perhaps it's just the wind that's whistl'ing round the window pane Or maybe it was thunder, or the rhythm of the rain The old ones say "an omen, and death won't be denied" The devil's on the hunting, when you hear the banshees cry

Thanks for this song and cheers from Finland. They found Burkitt's lymphoma in my bowels at spring (was 34 years at that time) and now I have recovered from the all treatments and cancer is thing of the past for me after 2 control checks. One of the songs that gave me strength and at darkest moments I still thought atleast banshee warned us if all would end here. I have listened your music many years and I'm glad there is many years in future too :) Keep up good work lads! Edit: One and half year later they found incurable pancreatic cancer from my mother... Maybe it's not fair but I still feel lucky that she is still alive and I can help her with knowledge from my lymphoma and we can enjoy things for her last months or years. But after all this I still feel that banshee is not evil spirit and I'm glad that we still have time together after we assimilated the diagnose few months ago :)

Growing up in northern British Columbia in the 60s and 70s, CBC was the only tele we had...and of course, that meant The Irish Rovers on Saturday night...I grew to LOVE "The Unicorn"...being a true Canadian built with Irish bits and pieces, the music called to me... Some decades hence, and this is far removed from the fanciful tale of those silly unicorns...but I gotta say, I do love love the 'new' Irish Rovers sound...this song is amazing, even as it evokes the terrors of the tales me Da and Gran told me of those mythical folk that haunt the Emerald Isle....

Regarding to the stories, I heard from good old Ireland, the one and only who doesent hear the Banshees cry, was the one, who later draw his final breath... so long you hear the Banshee howling, you are save. Or I am mistaken? For I am not Irish, I am from Dresden in Germany.
