The Bar-Kays delivered an electrifying performance at Hartwood Acres on a warm summer night in 2024. From the moment they stepped on stage, the energy was palpable, and the crowd was instantly captivated.
The setlist was a perfect blend of their classic hits and newer material, showcasing the band's versatility and timeless appeal. They kicked off the night with their iconic track "Soul Finger," and the audience erupted in cheers. The funky basslines, tight horn sections, and infectious rhythms had everyone on their feet, dancing and grooving to the beat.
One of the highlights of the evening was their performance of "Shake Your Rump to the Funk." The band's chemistry was evident, with each member seamlessly playing off the others. The lead vocalist's powerful and soulful voice carried through the night, hitting every note with precision and passion.
Midway through the concert, the band slowed things down with a heartfelt rendition of "Too Hot to Stop." The crowd swayed and sang along, creating a beautiful, unified moment under the stars. The Bar-Kays also paid tribute to their roots and influences with a medley of classic soul and funk covers, which was met with enthusiastic applause and appreciation from the audience.
The stage presence of The Bar-Kays was nothing short of spectacular. Their coordinated dance moves, flashy outfits, and genuine interaction with the crowd made for an engaging and immersive experience. It was clear that the band was having as much fun as the audience, feeding off the energy and excitement of the night.
The production quality was top-notch, with excellent sound engineering that ensured every instrument and vocal could be heard clearly. The light show added an extra layer of excitement, enhancing the overall atmosphere and complementing the band's dynamic performance.
As the concert drew to a close, The Bar-Kays treated the audience to an encore that left everyone wanting more. The final song, "Holy Ghost," had the entire venue dancing and singing along, a perfect ending to a memorable night.
In summary, The Bar-Kays' performance at Hartwood Acres was a masterclass in funk and soul. Their ability to connect with the audience, combined with their musical prowess and showmanship, made for an unforgettable concert experience. Fans old and new left the venue with smiles on their faces, already looking forward to the next time The Bar-Kays come to town.

Bands go through rough times with members leaving and new ones coming in. Although the only original member left is JA the bassist..he is keeping the legacy going and the music is clean and tight. Much respect thank you for all you have done and continue to do.😊

yes, Larry is missed, but founding member James Alexander has put together a nice rendition of the classic group. the vocalists do an admirable job, and the musicians are really tight. are these the 1970’s Bar-Kays? no, but come on people… it’s 2024! 🙄

🔥🔥🔥. I saw the original band play during live play in the 70’s. It was during a performance at a nightclub called WG’s on Hwy 190 in Port Allen. La. If there are any BarKays fans who were there and inclined to comment, reach out!

Do not underestimate the leadership and influence of JA on this band. I’ve seen this band in its original form, and I’ve seen the many interpolations over the years. The spirit has been consistent. BK4L✊🏿

The bass player has the right to perform as The Baykays Just like Otis Williams has the right to perform as The Temptations, he doesn't have to be there to get paid, The Chi Lites songs were sung by Eugene Recordwas the owner and he didn't perform and got paid whenever they performed. The reason why I know is I played with them .

The Original Barkay's would be disappointed with these performances. It was the second group of the Barkay's that was the real Shit in the late 70s,80s and 90s that had to Reorganize the Group after loosing part of the Group in the Airplane Crash with Otis Redding! The Group use to back up Otis Redding in the late 60s and early 70s! This Group should not even do what the Original Barkay's did because they are not even close and will never get there(!!!!!!!

What a sad excuse for the Barkays. This is not even close to the masters of funk. Don’t support this poor excuse of a barkays coverband. And as for the rewriting of the classics, just stop, you can touch the originals wtf

I think that these new guys would be graded as a New Group not the Legend of The Barkays, not trying to hurt any feelings but I think they should have gotten some younger guys more active, even though James Alexander is still in the group, I used to hang around them, ConFunkShun & other groups from Memphis, Larry Dodson & the rest of them were Powerful, Excited & Wild on that Stage, we Partied like it was a House Party, I don't like some people wanting to redo songs & put it their way & mess the songs up, learn the song the original way & maybe later add your part in there but to try to act like you are younger & you can't get it will mess it up but I'm hoping the get it going but I wouldn't come out there changing their stuff before they get their foot in the door upstairs cause they have a ways to go, im Rooting for them ❤
