I'm 15 and my school placed me in an iep yesterday because of my autism that i got diagnosed with a week ago. So now I'm watching these videos

I am so thankful for the high school I go to because everyone cares about my IEP. I still have teachers from sophomore and freshman year still keeping in touch with me and my parents to see how I’m doing and I’m a junior now. All my teachers are really great and the ARD people are amazing as well. I use to go to a ghetto school in Snook Texas and no one cared, not one followed anything when they were suppose to it was terrible. I’m glad I’m at the school I am now

Wow you are so lucky that your teachers cared about you you are so lucky that your teachers care about you my teachers never cared about me in fact after I left High School not one of them asked me how about I doing I tried to reach out to them on social media they just blocked me they will give me a hard time in high school that shows you how special education system don't give a crap about special education students I'm not saying all special education teachers I like that you are very lucky that your teachers cared about you

The dont's! HAHAHA! The late teacher with the soda, the PLC guy was so upset on his way out. And the way they complained after the meeting... This was great. I've been in both meetings.

This is exactly how the meetings went at my sons school. Starting late, school staff not present, tons of interruption, unprofessional, staff on facebook during the meeting.

This has been my experience with every iep meeting I have attended for my daughter. The administration is never prepared, and this is a direct result of lack of leadership from the top down.

My son had his first few IEP meeting's like the first example. Unsatisfactory. I'll be ready for the next one in a few weeks.

If it was as bad as the first part of the video you have grounds to sue. Legally, that meeting was a disaster (and obviously it was terrible professionally). Good luck in the future!

This video focused on teachers tasks and not interpreters what to do. Thank you.

This is sadly very true until parents take charge of the IEP process and hold them accountable. I found it useful to always demand copies of the proposed goals in advance of the meeting as that appeared to let them know I was going to be specifically asking about it and caused them to prepare better.

@@Angel_Hearted50 know your rights, and a lot of things these schools get away with won't happen; there is no way I would have sit through a meeting with a team that is unprepared. I would have gone to the board

This happens at almost every IEP meeting I attend. Someone is always late or the general education teacher doesn't show because their replacement forgot.
@casinogal19253 жыл бұрын
Even if you can't have everyone attend the meeting, you should still hold a professional meeting. You do not have to wait for everyone to show up before you get started. If someone can't show up, make sure you have a teacher's report and the Excusal form. If the parent doesn't agree, just table the meeting!

That interpreter-- like whoa. Terrible. Also, there should always be a Pre-ARD meeting between the teachers and the other people in the meeting prior to the parents arriving to ensure that everyone is there and has all of the things they are going to say and provide.

What should the parents do if the first meeting comes out like the first one? What would be the next course of action after such an unsatisfactory meeting?

This is not at all how an IEP is handled for the demonstration provided with regards for my son. I have more of the Don'ts that includes the school Administrator. Then time is given to her to bring her up to speed, she happens to been the LEA rep of the last two meetings.

Why does the "good" example have them showing up with an already-written IEP for the parents to sign? Isn't it supposed to be a collaborative effort with the parents' input?
@joshuawalker82973 жыл бұрын
Some districts mandate that a draft be written prior to the meeting and shared with the parent before the meeting. Any and everything in the draft can be changed.

Make sure your not inadvertently targeting a specific group. If your wanted to showcase the non English speaker, share that upfront. It appears that minorities are always the one in need and as an educator that doesn't look good.
