Omg, lol, it's so true. "Feel the pose" means nothing when you don't know how to put that feeling into lines. Whenever teachers would tell me I'd feel so lost. Understanding what lines and tones can do for us artists really need to come first :)
@JollyDMoss92972 жыл бұрын
actualy someone told me something like that to draw hair , feel the way , feel the hair , what is hairs and all the bullshit and i goes to trash level to more than decent almost instantly. Very suprised how ez it was when you understand the trick but didnt work for gesture and stuff , there are actualy many thing to learn other than the feeling for that

Fr. I took a gesture drawing class years ago and remember everytime I asked for help the professor would draw the same generic pose. And say do this. Make a pinch. Which wasn’t even helpful because whenever I got stuck it was in hard angles the models was in where the LOA wasn’t apparent at first glance or took awhile to see it clearly. And if I asked him how would you start this angle the model is in he would just go on some long tangent because he didn’t know how to start or approach it. And this guy was grading us. He was an excellent artist tho and I’m assuming he just couldn’t get his thought process out of his own head cuz he was incredible on paper just bad teacher.

I wish I'd seen this video years ago! My gesture drawings have all sorts of "flowing curves" but straight lines don't let you hide your mistakes. Thanks!

the way i figured out what gesture drawing is is by defining it like this: every stroke you make makes the pose itself more clear.

Love the aggressive uplifting music with the montage of the dog to break up the video, its impossible for your mood not to improve after seeing that. I really like the explanation of gesture through angles too, I think my understanding of gesture is rather similar e.g. when I try to improve my drawings gesture I generally try to find an "interesting" angle in my subject and carry it through to the rest of the pose as much as possible (kind of like saying this pose is about "this" angle).

I started to learn drawing just last week and alot of people said Figure drawing had Gesture and Construction as the foundation for it. I went and got opinions about these two topics and when it came to gesture, they kept saying its about the curves and all of that loose shapes, which made me a bit confused as to how a beginner could learn something that injects the visualization of life in a drawing while also focusing on the fact that you have to take note of the body by breaking it down to simple shapes. I recently tried mixing basic shapes and gesture-ish (from my perspective as a beginner) flow in to my sketches and it seemed much more comfortable and better for me to do so because not only can I see the body's language, I could also tell the body shape. At first, it felt somewhat great that I made something that was easy for me to understand but I wasnt sure if this was the right way to do so because trying to focus on two aspects while learning how to draw has always been not that great unless you had the skills and talent to do so. That is until I watched this video. This video is almost similar to what I've recently applied on my practices and I'm glad that it is because it means that at the very least, I'm at the right track of learning how to draw. Don't get me wrong, the past youtube channels about art has got me some good knowledge about it, it's just that these knowledge i've stored in me is only applicable after you've gotten enough skill to use it. Thank you for this very simple but interesting way of informing the way Gesture is perceived video and for that, that's a sub from me. :)

Thank you for helping to really define this. Find the flow and rhythm never worked for me, as I’ve never been the intuitive type. Like dancing, many people say they just _feel_ the rhythm, but I‘m not fluent in that language, sadly. 😕

Excelleeeeent, Kenzo & Mayko. Glad you're keeping us thinking about the right things when it comes to anatomy. See, in my experience it comes down to that 'Artistic Distilling'. Like I think you've even said before on another video, distilling the massive amount of information we see in a human person down to only the most necessary and essential points. It's like everytime I learn this kinda thing, I forget at some point of the journey and need to relearn again. So thanks for these videos. Fundamentals for the win.

Ok I see so Gesture is the change in direction than so it also in inanimated object like a dress (where the cap is moving or something like that) The same way in humain perspective is useful too. even if it more simple to see in object the perspective is still there in humain. so like Gesture is what bring movement overall without gesture something doesn't move (so that why ppl think it only in life thing but like a river got gesture for the flow of the water. Any way hopefully I get somewhat good at this I just want to get somewhat good at realisticish drawing. I don't like my stick figure I do and I always tought I was just bad but it just I didn't know how to do it really hopefully I can get somewhat goodish.

Finally!!! A logic approach to teaching gestures. Not how or what, but why! I have been trying to understand gestures for years, many different courses. Never really grasped it.
