Thank you for this series of incredibly thorough, yet approachable, videos. I was so overwhelmed while researching yarn dyeing and I honestly was ready to give up until I found your channel. You are a great teacher, and very down to earth which is hard to come by sometimes on KZbin. I especially appreciate this video that shows a lot of your work space areas - my setup will be in my basement so it’s highly relevant! I plan to make my first attempt at dyeing this Saturday, will probably have you right there “with me” while I rewatch the vids on my laptop!

@@EssenceofAutumnYarn I have dyes for cotton yarns, but not acid dyes. I have to use my kitchen, so, I want to start safely. I am procrastinating at this point. My first step is to get lots of onion skins. When I was a teenager I tie dyed. I enjoyed it. I will definitely let you know how everything goes. Thanks again.

I made a video of myself dyeing on my channel... it is by no means a tutorial lol it’s more that I wanted to document what I did. I have the basics down but where I really fall short is putting colors together. I am always afraid to dye complimentary colors on the same skein in fear of getting mud. I love the look of a skein layered with all the colors I know I’m supposed to wait for one color to strike or exhaust if I don’t want the dyes to mix. I have no interest in dyeing for a business I just think it’s really fun but I do seem to lack that artistic element that helps me put beautiful colors together I’m excited to see the technique vids next also
@EssenceofAutumnYarn3 жыл бұрын
You did a fantastic job with your colour! I love how it turned out. I can tell that you're willing to experiment and and try things to see what works. Don't fear the "mud". Even when you thought an idea you had could go wrong you still went ahead and tried it out. Keep doing this and you will be surprised with what you will learn and come up with. This is also how you will develop your colour sense and artistic style of dyeing. You're doing great, keep up the good work.

The manufacturer for the proofing oven is Metro but any restaurant supply company will have something similar.

Very clear instructions. I was struggling with yarn dyeing. Good idea to dye the yarns without Acid to get the desired shade and then to add acid & heat. Can you suggest, what process to do additionally so that the colors do not run while washing. Thank you and greetings from India .. 😊
@EssenceofAutumnYarn Жыл бұрын
I'm glad this video was helpful. Using hot or warm water while washing can cause the dye to run so make sure to wash in cold water only.

Hi Devrat, I live in India too and have been thinking of trying my hand at yarn dyeing. Do you have any tips as to where to source yarn and which dye to use?

Thank you for the information. Did you use a spin dryer before the yarn was hung to dry?
@EssenceofAutumnYarn2 жыл бұрын
Yes I did.
@Mel794393 жыл бұрын
When cleaning he pans, can you do it on the stove? Heating it up and adding water and soap, then cleaning. Would that bring the dye out better?
@EssenceofAutumnYarn3 жыл бұрын
No I doubt it. Scrubbing the pans with an abrasive is all that's needed.
@ewe2me2ud462 жыл бұрын
All of your videos are great. When you hang up your skeins to dry, do you put something on them to weigh them down? I find my yarn “curls” if I don’t keep it hanging tight. Hope this makes sense.😊
@EssenceofAutumnYarn2 жыл бұрын
No I don't. I find that most of the kinks are taken care of when I skein them up.
@teenwphoto2 жыл бұрын
This could be because the yarn has too must twist. You can try wet finishing and thwacking it but weighting it will only mask the problem and it can effect your end product if you create something with overspun yarn.
@jacicrowder61063 жыл бұрын
Curious to know how many Hanks you dye of one color for your shop?
@EssenceofAutumnYarn3 жыл бұрын
Usually 6 skeins per colour. That amounts fits comfortably in the pan and I like to do about 10 colours per base. That gives me 60 skeins and that is what I can get on to one shelf where I store the finished yarn.
