I'm too early into my fly fishing journey to benefit from a lot of the techniques you discuss... but you are instantly memorable and have given me a great aource to refer back to when ready! Just the type of dude that I know to take seriously, no nonsense!

Fully enjoy your videos. Love how you explain each step etc. very helpful as I’m just getting back into fly fishing and tying after over 40 years of ‘life’. Thanks Peter.

Hi Peter, you just gave the most professional instructional commentary I think I've ever seen. I am now subscribed to your channel. I've wanted to tie and fish tubes for awhile and scavenging all sorts of tubes from q-tips, pump bottles etc. Junction tubes and a mandrill (home made bent wire I read in an article) were compounding my efforts. I think I'll break down and buy the proper materials now that I understand how it's done. Thank you sir, looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.

Fantastic explanation, Peter. I bought one of these adapters awhile ago stricly to hold needles for large, extended body mays. Always wanted to try my hand at some tubes for bass or pike. Never had it explained though. Now I know. Thanks.

Hi Peter, thanks for this wonderful introduction to tube fly tying!! I always wanted to start tying them, but always was put off and scared by the "complexity" of it ... Or so I thought until I watched your video :) So, thanks a again from a tube starter - great video!

Appreciate your video! Can you do one using the Pro Tube system? This system is so much fun with so many options. Thanks.

That's a great idea for a video, but since I'm with the Canadian Tube Fly Company, I'll have to leave that one to a Pro Tube user.

Great video. Just one question. I want to tie a bigger version of the popular rolled muddler for coho and cutthroat without resorting to using a very large hook. Do you think this pattern would work as a tube fly?
@hooked4lifeca6 жыл бұрын
I don't see why not. A 3/32" aluminum tube with a plastic liner will provide a slim enough profile, yet it won't be heavy. It should swim well.
@hattrickster336 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks. I'll tie a few and give it a try.

Peter...my only beef is that this was too brief. You really do such a great job on your instructional vids. They are very much appreciated. Could you give us some instruction and explanation on the process of "nesting" tubes? I know the Canadian Tube Fly Co. has a good video available on their sight. In it, they use their own tubes and you can see how they fit very snug. I ordered similar from HMH and discovered the fit was loose. What's with that? Is it still usable? Do I need super glue? With short, heavy metal tubes, can I build a 4 to 5 inch baitfish imitation that will have a jigging-type action on the retrieve for the saltwater? How would you put this together? I'm asking because while I love the Clouser Deep Minnow with a stinger hook, and have much success with it, there are times when there is just too much grass and debris hanging up on the eyes to make it worth fishing.
@hooked4lifeca8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Nystrom It's always a toss up, too long is boring, too short is not enough. Super glue will solve a miss match in size of tube, within reason. I use the thick, gap filler type. If you want a jigging motion on a tube fly, use very heavy, large cone heads on a plastic tube body..

Do you put the junction tube on before you tie the fly at the vise?
@hooked4lifeca2 жыл бұрын
The junction tubing is usually put on last, after the fly has been removed from the vise.

Can i use Gamakatsu size one octopus hooks?
@hooked4lifeca2 жыл бұрын
On big flies, yes. On smaller flies, the offset point will act like a rudder and cause the fly to ride on its side or even spin it. I'd check the swim of the fly with that hook before fishing it.
@rudychavira55585 жыл бұрын
I would be hard pressed to buy this device again, everyone told me how great it was, married small with med classic turning? No way I can get smallest needle through small classic tubing
@hooked4lifeca5 жыл бұрын
Ya, it won't handle the smallest stuff, but it's a very economical solution for someone who only ties occasionally on tubes. Hardcore tube tyers should invest in a proper tube fly vise.

@@hooked4lifeca I've purchased individual needles I'm using in my regal revolution. Thanks
