Thanks for this. Been searching all over looking for a video where it actually shows the way to run the rope from the anchor, through the trolley and how to secure it to the kayak. Some good videos out there but none of them finished the job..... thanks for putting it all together.

Thanks for the great info. I plan on fishing in current and now see the value of an anchor trolley. I had originally planned on running the anchor off the stern only, but having the option of using the bow also (and from a sitting position) I see adding a trolley would be a good investment.

If you have an anchor trolly you could move it to middle of boat to retrieve and not have it drag. Just a tip. Informative video. Nice yak.

I use a stakeout pull on the river all the time. Now granted my kayak has pretty heavy duty scupper holes, but what I do is put my kayak up against a bank and push the pole through the scupper up stream from log jams and other structure. Ive been doing this for about 5 years now and see no visible sign of scupper hole wear or failure. Ive also used it on the outside of my kayak at an angle to wedge my kayak into the bank. I do like the chain idea. If you use the actual achor, Float Fish Adventure has a great video on how to rig it so in the event you get it stuff you can retrieve it pretty easy and he fishes rivers most of the time. New sub love you stuff. Keep it up.

@DAStork5 жыл бұрын
you can use the first one if rigged correctly, tie on the bottom of the anchor, use a zip tie to hold the line to the top, if it gets hung a good pull will snap the zip tie and you will be pulling on the bottom of the anchor, the "arms" of the anchor fold up and you get the anchor back. just carry a few zip ties with you and you can use it again and again.

Thanks for the good info but the spikey anchor is fine if you tie the rope from the other end of the anchor then use a small ziptie to attach the rope to the other end so it will function normally but if it hangs up 5ne ziptie breaks and the rope will pull the anchor from the rear end unjamming it

@bcasteel6697 жыл бұрын
When using the fold out type of anchor attach to the opposite end than seems normal. Run the rope up th anchor and Use a small type wrap strap to attach the rope to the other end of the anchor. Now if your anchor gets really stuck: jerk hard to break the tyewrap strap. This will now cause the anchor to fold closed and release so you don't lose your anchor. Or maybe worse cause your kayak to flip if you cannot cut it loose from the boat! In fact don't type the anchor rope to the boat but rather run the rope through the ring and use the zigzag that's easily released. By using a float 20' above the anchor: if you have to release the anchor completely , you can go back to get it or get your buddy up stream to retrieve it for you. Safety first !!!

That finger type anchor should have an eyelet connection point on the bottom. Try connecting a short 2' light chain to that point and then about 1 1/2' up the chain attach the chain to the top eyelet with a ziptie. If your anchor gets stuck pulling hard on the anchor line will break the ziptie and start pulling the anchor from the bottom closing the fingers and allowing you to retrieve it easily
@michaelgarvey56005 жыл бұрын
Wow definitely going apply the chain link system I love the. Ideas of be able to control how much weight your using being able to add or remove weight would be awesome I don't fish moving water here in Florida but alway getting hung up on lily pads and grass the chains should pull up with no problem thanks I found this video helpful

Thanks for the video! Where or what would you call that handle that your anchor rope is on? I like that "kite handle" for the anchor rope.
@Dogatemyhomework9273 жыл бұрын
Good video. My standard kayak anchor shows to tie the rope onto the bottom of the anchor, run it past the top and hold it to the top of the anchor with a zip tie. If you get snagged, yank it hard, break the zip tie and then you’re pulling up your anchor from the bottom of it.. I haven’t needed to do that and I’m wondering your experience or thoughts on that. Also this is the first time I e ever seen the chain setup.. I really like that

how do you attach an anchor line buoy in case you have to toss the line overboard to track down a big fish, obviously the buoy wont slip through the anchor line ?
@jimdou46174 жыл бұрын
Great job Eddie in your tutorial, your sharing to help others keep safe and be more effective in anchoring. I think your system is excellent and I surely would adopt when I get my fishing kayak I am curious about how do you deal with large waves that may occur from boats passing while you are anchored down. What do you do in that case? I have heard it said that in such situations, you do not want to be anchored down for it can capsize your kayak Thanks so much!
@RivermanCustoms4 жыл бұрын
Jim Dou thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated! As for dealing with strong waves or wake from passing boats, As long as you are anchored from the bow or stern, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. And generally, it is easier to deal with waves if you point the bow into the waves, which you can easily do, even with your anchor deployed. And any water that you might take on will immediately drain out through the scupper holes. Hope that answers your question! Thanks again!

Great video!! Good idea not to secure pulley and using the bungee method . Eddie should I use silicone when I drill the holes to install my trolley anchor ?? . I just got my pursuit and I quickly realized it's a heavy kayak , but it's a amazing kayak..
@timg50144 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the explanation of the trolley and the safety implications of anchoring from the middle. I am left with one question though. Why would you leave the trolley in the front and the anchor hanging in the water? To save time when ready to deploy again?
@RivermanCustoms4 жыл бұрын
Tim G That’s correct. But since filming this video, I have made a slight change and I only use a small, cannonball shaped anchor up front now. And I mostly use the drag chain from the rear when drifting. The small cannon ball up front doesn’t hang down in the water and create any drag when paddling. I actually have a seminar posted on the Nucanoe channel called essential knowledge for the kayak river fisherman that gives some more details about this. Be sure to check it out!

As far as droping the anchor off the bow; instead of crawling up to the anchor, can't a person just minipulate the trolly eye to the amidships then drop the anchor then move the trolly eye back to the bow??

What factors are considered when choosing which side to install your anchor trolley? I see Port (left) side most often.
@Manuel_Z_Kayaks4 жыл бұрын
So you basically don't know how to properly use a claw anchor. If your claw anchor is getting stuck you are tying it from the top. It's supposed to be tied from the bottom and the main line zip tied to the top so it can break free and be pulled in easily. Why would you use the anchor trolley and leave the anchor / chain in the water? You can keep it next to you and deploy it as needed then shift it to where you want to anchor your yak from.

You didn't do a very good job explaining the trolley. U should show how u drop the anchor and move the trolley up, the cleat it off, then cleat off the anchor line. Then show reverse when u pull up anchor... Uncleat trolley and move into back.. etc
